Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Quote:
Screens depicting a logo for Metal Gear Solid 5 tie the game to Hideo Kojima's mysterious "Project Ogre;" the screens were allegedly leaked out of this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con, from a behind-closed-doors presentation given by Kojima to developers, showing off the Fox Engine. At least, that'd be a reasonable story to believe – but Konami's saying it's all bunk.

After (irresponsibly) tweeting ambiguous notes like, "Fake or real, we love a bit of speculation! ‪#ogre‬ ‪#mgs5," Konami's UK account directly clarified that, "Seriously, just in case the ‪#pinch‬ ‪#salt‬ hashtags weren't enough - the chap who claims to have set up the fake rumours has been in touch," as spotted by Kotaku's Jason Schreier.

Project Ogre is Kojima's current in-development game, though few details are known about its theme, or gameplay, or ... well, much of anything regarding it. Kojima has also spoken of a fifth Metal Gear Solid game, though its unclear if development of that game is already underway.

Whether or not the game was shown behind closed doors, Kojima was definitely at Comic-Con this past weekend, and he appeared to be showing something secret. Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski tweeted, "Just got pulled into a back room at Comic Con by @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN and showed some crazy new secret stuff. Wow." We're doing pretty much everything we can right here to not make a lurid joke.

Another Prequel maybe ? I can't see them dragging out Old Solid for another round.

If I had to guess, it would be Naked Snake for MGS5.

I'm betting it's a prequel in-between peacewalker and metal gear?

Kojima should just re-do Metal Gear 1 and 2 in 3D.

I'd love to see Gray Fox getting beaten by Snake when he was still human.

@kayos Agreed lets wait.

Well, a new teased MGS game starring Big Boss isn't really anything new thanks to this picture that came directly from Kojima himself floating around on the internet for several months now.

Though if it is indeed a true traditional new installment for consoles, then I am quite looking forward to it. Peace Walker is a good game but gameplay-wise I'd gladly take something more like MGS3 over it.~

Sounds like the Outer Haven incident or at least the conflict that lead up to the events in Metal Gear.

There's speculation that the game will take place in Africa and will focus on the conflict based around the world's largest diamond mines that are located there, hence "Diamond Dogs".

I'm inclined to agree with it bridging the gap between Peace Walker and Metal Gear too if this turns out to be true, considering South Africa was also the location of Outer Heaven in the original Metal Gear.

Should we trust Kojima?
Well I'll give him a benefit of a doubt, but as I can see now Comic Con or other gaming events is making that old school April Fools "SENG LONG" bit again, but not in the magazine, but in events.

Big news folks, today at MGS' 25th anniversary event, the next major title in the MGS series has been revealed to be called "Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zero".

A short tech demo of the game was also showcased, no footage from said demo has been made available to the public yet, however it was revealed that this MGS title will actually be "open world" and run on the FOX engine for consoles.

Also here's a bit of promo art they showcased:

Spoiler for Return of Big Boss:

According to Famitsu.com's report from today's event, Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes is the name of the real time demo Kojima Productions showed at the event. But it is also being made into an actual open world game.

Ground Zeroes targets current generation specifications, with the demo running on a PC at the level of PS3 and Xbox 360. Famitsu reports that Kojima Productions is also working on next generation development.

Well, I figure it'll be normal MGS gameplay but on a single map instead of many small ones and drivable vehicles.

They've hidden the face, but it does really feel strange seeing Snake without the bandana.

To be fair, the MGS franchise has been slowly inching towards that kind of vision and style to begin with.

From the bases, to the jungles, then to a mixture of them in real-time war, then towards mission-based silo-ed locations across a large compound...

Open world was a matter of time and resources.

You know.. I think Kojima is being silly again and intentionally making Snake look like Sam Fisher

I guess prequel... you can see the strings of the eyepatch on his forehead, so it's another Big Boss game.

I've been hoping they'd take Metal Gear 1 and 2 and make a current gen title out of them for years now. Release both those sagas (remade in 3D) of the Metal Gear saga as one title.
