Wow brackets are out already!

Group A: Saki, Kobato, Yuuki, Tomoka, KOROMOE
Group B: Toki, Azunyan, Akari, Misaki Mei

Group D: Mihoko, Nagi, Louise
Group E: HINAGIKU, Yuu, Taiga, Yui
Group F: Subara, Ohana, Kuro, Nadeko, Nyanthorlep, Mugi, Ryuuka, Chitanda, Ririchiyo
Group G: Momo, Mayoi, Nodoka, Yamada, Tsukihi, Squid Girl , Ako
Group H: Poplar, Shana, Kuroyukihime, Mio, Sena
*In bold - predictions on who wins the block

Favorite characters per block:
Group A: Himari, Saki, Lemon-senpai, Yuno, Koromo
Group B: Mio(Nichijou), Toki, Kawashima Ami, Misaki Mei
Group C: Mayuri, Hakase, Ringo, Ice Witch, Yune
Group D: Kurisu, Madoka, Karuta
Group E: Chiaki, Yuuko, Ringo (just for kicks), Mix, Char, Taiga, Lit. Girl
Group F: Kanna, Ohana, SUBARA, Urabe, Subaru, Nadeko, Mugi, Eru, Ririchiyo (My heart hurts for this block)
Group G: HITAGI (My one and only staple love), Yamada, Rea, Ika-Musume, Minami
Group H: Mayaka, Nano, Mio, Rika, Minori, Marika, Sena
*My favorite per block

My Top 7 Saimoe Girls:
Hitagi (One and only), Kawashima Ami, Ika-Musume, Urabe Mikoto, Chitanda Eru, Makise Kurisu, Yune

Interesting R1 matches:
Shizuno VS Kyouko (8/23): Will Kyouko be affected by Matsumoto Rise (doubt it) in winning against Shizu?
Sen Vs. Kanbaru VS Ui (8/24): Three Middle Class characters duking it out.
Mihoko Vs. Kurisu (8/28): Please let Kurisu have a bit more power. . .
Teru Vs. Madoka (8/29): Random other Saki character might affect Teru's chances of winning.
Karuta Vs. Fear (8/29): Same date, should be interesting.
Hinagiku Vs. Others (9/02): Her matches always bring votes.
Triple Saki Match (9/02): Arata Vs. Yuu but lol SakiPwnage.
Kanna Vs. Urabe Vs. Karen (9/05): It's technically Kana vs. Karen but who knows. . . Urabe is a mystery.
Kuro Vs. Subaru (9/07):Assasination possiblity?
Nadeko Vs. Nayanthorlep (9/08):Very big match that will show the strengths of both factions.
Tsumugi Vs Ryuuka (9/05): One of the biggest matches in R1. Mugi finished a vote behind Ryuuka in the Prelims but it was a triple K-ON threat then. How will she do now. . .
Momo Vs. Hachikuji (9/10): Ghost act match of the round.
Mayaka Vs. Poplar (9/16): Poplar is poplar.
Shana Vs. Izumi(9/17): Assasination attempts are wlaways there for Shana.
LC vs. Kana Vs. Eu (9/15): I love middle ground matches.

There's gonna be some sparks in R1, mostly in Block F, so things should get interesting in a few days. R2 is definitely where the tournament becomes really hot though.

I can make signatures if anyone wants (just PM me) though it's only three characters per sig like the example I have. Woohoo let's try to lift the Saimoe spirit a bit more!

Oh the brackets. With the Saki's spread everywhere...

Btw, I had spent 24 hours during the past 3 days teaching/playing mahjong.

Ah, I figured as much...

I wonder if they planned for the intermission between the Prelims and the Tournament to also include the Comiket 82 intermission also.

They had always planned for the main draw to start after C82. The only thing that wasn't set in stone was the timing of the prelims.

That's one thing that bothers me when it comes to Saimoe: those titles that I feel are too dominant for the tournament's own good (resulting in show backlash and fear that the finals will be boring due to the last two contenders being from the same overdominant show), with Saki being one of those titles that I feel are too over dominant.

As for Saki not going to win this year. That's hard to say. Sure, the last two times Saki was in the tournament, the show's characters failed to make it to the finals. However, with Madoka Magica's overdominance last year, I'm a little concerned that the same thing that happened last year with Madoka Madoka will happen again this year with Saki.

Thing is. I can't pick a series that can really challenge Saki this year. There hasn't been a real "Madoka/K-ON" class of anime this past Saimoe year.

Saimoe has its own built-in safeguard against overdominance: snipers.

But as the Puella Magi showed last year, sniping isn't a problem if you are so strong that no one can even get within sniping range. Even Mikoto needed a range extension cheat to off Homura since regular sniping just wasn't good enough.

I don't think Saki characters have the sheer strength to pull of a similar feat. However, they do have a big advantage in numbers. There are around half a dozen Saki characters that need to be sniped. Saki also has a large group of midcarders or near elites to do some sniping of their own.

There's also the issue of Toki is in a very difficult position to snipe. Only 2 other characters in her half of the Block even finished in the top 10 of their preliminary group. Sena Airi was in Ryuuka's group and was much weaker than Ryuuka so she's unlikely to be able to do anything. The other is Minase Iori who happens to be in a Round 1 match with Jindai on the same day Toki has a Round 1 match. Of course, Toki has to beat Akari to get out of the Block. I wouldn't really consider that a sniping since Akari could simply just be stronger than Toki.
