This ep ate me alive, this has to be the most impacting moment in any anime I've ever seen oddly, I've never been as surprised or as emotionally scarred (yes, I almost cried, especially when his daughter was asking why they were burying Hughes..) Damn man, this anime really messed me up this time. I never really was impacted by the other things but this was insane. I loved Hughes, he was like my favorite person in the anime so you can pretty much understand why it impacted me so much.

it's pretty obvious now that scars arm is his brothers arm not his. Remember when his brother had tattoes all over his body? it must have cut off his brothers arm and used alchemy to attach it to his body to use. pretty cool

Yes, that line was used by Mustang when he was tearing during his final farewell to his best buddy. The anime never showed his tears. In the manga, Hawkeye looked up and saw Mustang tears flowing. But Mustang tried to cover it up with that line. Hawkeye smiled and accepted as it is. It showed Mustang as a emotional loyal fellow as well as trying to act macho. FYI, it was not raining at all (in both anime & manga).

Argh, my mistake. Just rewatched it and noticed that they indeed did put in that streak of tears. But since I was watching it at 50% (at work...shhh), couldn't notice it... My bad Will edit the original post...

I haven't posted in this forum for a while, but this was a great episode that I can't pass up commenting on. I didn't expect Huges to die there like that, though looking back, it was kind of obvious, but I try to not pick up on hints like that. While I hate to see huges die, this has pushed FMA up to number 4 on my top ten list. ahead of scrapped princess.

Yeah I always thought that when Scar said "My brother gave me this arm" his brother drew the transformation circles on it. I didn't think that it actually WAS his brothers arm! I guess that might have been obvious to some people though. And if you look you can see where his arm was attached (there is a stretch of pale skin). So now the question is (no manga spoilers plz) did Scar lose his arm in the battle and then his brother gave him his? Or did his brother cut off Scars arm himself and then attach his?

And yes, I'm REALLY upset that Hughes died. God damnit now they REALLY need to find the Philosophers stone!!! Who cares if human transformation is forbidden?!?!

Pretty sad episode, I feel really bad for his daughter and wife. The preview for the next episode looks interesting I say.

Awwww I cried. That's so sad but makes the anime extremely interesting. I also cried twice in Gundam SEED and in Cowboy Bebop.

He is one of my favourite characters. Why? He's a great man in general. Some people might not be able to take his humor, but he's doing this just to relieve the stress and the tense atmosphere. When he really needs to be serious, he is. He's a kind, loving person. There are too many examples to show that. He loves his daugther, his wife, his family. He cares for MUSTANG a lot and in particular the Elric Brothers. In Ep25, just when he realized what really happened, he told his assistant girl to return everything and fire her and tell her to STAY away as far as she can. He doesn't want any innocent ppl involved in it. He's smart and intelligent (figures out what really happened). In addition, despite his lack of knowledge in alchemy, he is a good fighter. He is the perfect guy. I like him the most...he's someone I want to be like. Salutes Hughes..

I decided to just quote this reply and say I do agree. I enjoyed his character a lot. Not going to say I wish I was like him, but he embodied some very admirable qualities. I totally didn't expect this to happen... it came out of left field for me. I think the ending was well done... but from a story standpoint, I'm not sure what my reaction is yet. I suppose it depends on how the brothers find out, and how they take the story from there.

I have a couple of questions - (I only saw the anime and not the manga) - The person/nonperson that shot Maes Hughes, is it really his wife? Because the only thing that transforming person saw was the picture of Hughes' wife, but had changed into exactly what his wife was wearing that evening...

A. Maybe that person killed his wife sometime ago, and is now impersonating her?
B. But she had a baby, so maybe a bit afterwards? (Unless those Humon Clus can have babies...?)
C. But then I think Hughes would've caught on...

Argh... maybe I'm reading too much into it...

And when he/she had shot Hughes, he had his arm up.. seemingly shielding his heart... but then his body was bleeding so I'm assuming he got him... *sniff* He was my favorite person too..

Where's the light and humorous parts going to be then...? ;_;

I already said why I could not see the tears intially. I was watching at 50% (Windows Media Player). On a 1024x768 desktop that's a pretty small screen to see details

Watch out for ep 27 (if Gangan's synopsis is true). As for me, I already know and yes I want to see the Elrics' meeting their Master/Sensei/Teacher.

the Fuhrer's secretary, Juliet Douglas, is Sloth I guess they changed it from the big muscle dude in the manga to the secretary in the anime. Juliet is very slow yet calculating, slow and calm to talk, does a desk job, walks slow and doesnt show much emotion I guess they wanted to add another female homunculus into the mix rather than have all guys and one girl

now we have Wrath and Sloth running the Military, Lust, Gluttony, and Envy out and about causing trouble, and Greed on his own doing whatever he pleases with his band of merry men/women hehe I'm curious as to when they will reveal "Pride" prolly near the end of the series I guess

Maes dying was heart jerking and watching Elysia ask why they were burying daddy and Glacier having to answer her and Armstrong and Roy all crying and watching Ed see Maes's ghost at the end was sad as well Season 1 is over as you can see from the ending credits playing during the funeral scene, which means a new OP and ED to start off the 2nd season next week yay! And it seems Ed and Winry's relationship will be talked about in the next ep hurray!

What can I say... I even anticipated this... back when the Manga People hinted at a "Very Sad Event" in Episode 25--I still can't help myself but shedding a fountain of tears, I can still feel them on my cheeks.

To be honest, I didn't anticipate the "Very Sad Event" until I read the Japanese preview texts on The Hagaren Official Site at http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/Animation/hagaren/

Yet the moment I recalled the mention of the "Very Sad Event" hint given to me, just shortly after reading the preview text, I thought to myself "Oh God no."

Thus I went into the Episode basically knowing what was going to happen. Perhaps because of my anticipation, the Episode felt like it went by like a blink of the eye. Still...

I had my hands on my mouth as the shot fired--to my surprise I had no tear then, I was somewhat worried--until the funeral, when the finality of it simply set in.

As the little girl cried for her papa... I couldn't help myself but cry, tears obscure my vision.

I'm a bit ambivalent on something though, on how they ended the life of a Hero, a Husband and a Father.

The fact that Envy morphed into the wife bothers me to no end--it's too much for me even if the intent is to illustrate how evil Envy really is.

In any case... thus ends the blabs of a sad fan--I need more closure on the next episode.

Hughes dies, no one else knows what he was researching 'cept for the sins and the fuhrer who I think is in cahoots with the sins (not sure though):/

His secretary (book worm girl) knows something so I think she'll be back later on to help Mustang pick up on Hughes' trail. I think Roy's going to start looking into it while Ed and Al are on their little adventure in the South Mountains.
But damn this ep sucked (in a good way).....boo hoo poor Elysia

Wow and I mean wow wasnt expecting that at all. I normally dont read the FMA forums so this was a total suprise for me.

This series freaking rocks. I love animes that messes with you and doesnt give you flowers and roses. Hmm now im wondering if Roy or the Elric brothers will find out who killed Hughes. I hope they do and go medieval on theire asses.
