"Admiral..." One of the bridge hands nodded to Leti. "It's as we feared, there are more Mazoku gathering."

"Where?" Leti narrowed her eyes. At this rate, they were going to have to upgrade the ranking of this world to SSS if there were this many Mazoku running around.

"North of Seiryuun, and seemingly staying there." A screen popped up with Leti asked for it. "I'm not sure why, but it looks like a lot of Dragons and some humans, or human-like people, we're not sure yet, are fighting against them."

Leti frowned as she looked at it. "What's with this red energy?" She cursed when the hands on the bridge all shook their heads. "Keep an eye on it."

"Ma'am..."

"Yes?" Leti blinked as the two battles were shown side by side. Something was definitely odd, the red energy in the mountains was far more potent than the red energy around Seiryuun, but the energy around Seiryuun was growing. "Keep an eye on this."

Whatever it was, she knew it couldn't be good.

"Lord Shabranigdo." He turned to look at some mid-level Mazoku that had come up to him. Honestly, he couldn't even remember this one's name, having come into existence sometime since he was last released, well, the first time he was released. "The battle... Does not go well... All the low-level Mazoku you sent out are getting slaughtered, and even the few that get close to the city are being destroyed by spikes from the ground, fire and other spells and..."

"Fire? How does... Holy magic..." He narrowed his glowing red eyes. Honestly, this human frame was such a limitation, but for now it was necessary.

At least until he had all the pieces in place.

"Are the Shinzoku here?" The Mazoku shook his head. "Then how?"

"A human boy is casting the fire from the walls and..." The Mazoku started to tremble. "Lord Shabranigdo, I don't doubt you, but there's the Holy magic, which humans aren't supposed to have, a pink haired woman using a sword in ways I've never seen, reports of six Weapons of Light, including two Swords of Light, a redheaded woman using a hammer, four women in the air who can fly and use magic I've never seen, one of them is completely red and moving so fast that even I can't follow her and..." He whimpered as the human form of Shabranigdo narrowed his eyes.

"You really have no faith in me, huh?" He walked forward and patted the Mazoku on what passed for its shoulder. "Do not worry, all will be well, but as for you..." He grinned as the Mazoku screamed as its body was torn apart. "Do not doubt me ever again!"

Crossing his arms, he looked at his human host. "So weak..." To think that he would just give up his soul like he did. Chuckling, Shabranigdo shrugged it off, humans were so weak.

Still, it was because of the human soul that was in him last time that he was beaten. "Rezo..." He growled and squeezed his hand into a fist. "If you hadn't interfered, I would have won and this world would have been destroyed long ago."

"It's still weird how you know what happened to one of your soul fragments, Lord Shabranigdo." A female voice spoke up and he turned to see several Mazoku, all human-shaped and covered in cloaks, walk up to him. "Even if all your fragments are technically connected to each other, it's still weird."

Shabranigdo grinned at them. "Well, I didn't expect to see the eight of you here so soon."

"Well, you did send for us as soon as you were awake, Lord Ruby Eyes." A second Mazoku spoke softly. "We would have came to your aide last time, but as you never sent for us..."

"Yes, yes, none of us knew that Lina Inverse could call forth that power. But, it seems that several strong opponents are here today." He looked around at the group confused. "Where are the last two?"

"Gen and Gou are at Dragon's Peak, keeping the Elves and Dragons too busy to join in down here." The female-sounding Mazoku stood up and looked at him fully. "It's doubtful they will fail, after all, you created all of us a thousand years ago."

Shabranigdo chuckled before turning his head and frowning. "...Odd..." He could have sworn he felt something familiar, but it wasn't there anymore. "Now, go, and deal with those defenders as you see fit."

The Mazoku nodded as they disappeared.

"This isn't good." Xellos frowned as he faded out of the Astral Plane and materialized on a hill, looking down at the battle.

"Daddy..." He turned to see his two daughters look at him in worry. "Are you going to have to fight against Ruby Eyes?"

"It's not possible." Xellos shook his head and looked behind the twins at the others who had gathered there. "All things considered, if I went to fight against Lord Ruby Eyes, I would then be a traitor to my race, but still an enemy of the Shinzoku. If I helped him, well, then I'd be breaking the truce." He had a rather... Grim smile on his face. "And quite frankly, I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place."

Rangort crossed her arms under her breasts, lifting them up slightly. "As long as no high ranking Mazoku helps Shabranigdo, we'll be willing to let the fight continue as it is." She blinked at the grimace that came across Xellos's face. "What?"

"It seems... Lord Ruby Eyes isn't taking any chances this time..." His eyes opened and even Rangort felt a tremor of fear at his next words. "He's sent the Mazoku assassins out."

"Assassins?" Rangort blinked at him. "They can't be any stronger than Mid-level at best, why do you worry about them?"

"Mid-level or not," Zelas spoke up as she stepped forward, "these Mazoku are almost as strong as Sherra was before she became Dynast."

"I wish you wouldn't mention that." Sherra said as she sat in a tree, looking down at the battle. "When is he going to become his real form?"

"Going to join in then?"

Sherra growled and turned her head to glare at Valwin. "Look, you tree-smoking Shinzoku, unlike you, the slut, the hothead, Zelas, Dolphin, Xellos and Riksfalto, I have never seen Lord Ruby Eyes, so I want to know what he looks like."

Twitching, Rangort glared at Sherra. "Do you have to call me that?"

Smirking, Sherra crossed her arms under her chest and narrowed her eyes at the Shinzoku. "So says the slut that slept with Xellos."

Rangort cracked her knuckles and took a step in Sherra's direction when Dolphin got in front of her and grinned. "Now, now, Rangort dear... I could feed you more of my chocolate." She laughed when Rangort's face went from angry to disturbed in a second flat. "And, you, Sherra..." She turned to glare at the other Lord. "Please stop antagonizing the Shinzoku, after all, none of us intended for Lord Shabranigdo to be re-awakened unless an all-out war came into being."

Xellos sat down and stared at the battle with a sense of dread. Something wasn't right, and it wasn't just the assassins. "What's up with all the miasma?"

"Been wondering that myself, actually." Valwin pulled the miniature palm tree from his mouth to look at the battlefield. "It's condensing, but... Not near the humans."

Xellos blinked as his daughters hugged his sides. Sighing, he awkwardly ran a hand over their heads. He wasn't sure if he was cut out to be a father like this. "Hey, Lina, we have a problem."

"BAH! Xellos, how'd you get into my head?"

"A secret." Xellos smiled as Lina yelled at him mentally. It was actually pretty easy to figure out how this telepathy thing worked, especially after it was used on him by Lina a few years ago. "Anyway, you have a major problem heading your way."

"Yeah, what?"

"Lord Ruby Eyes has dispatched some Mid-level Mazoku to deal with you and your friends."

"...How bad is it? You wouldn't tell me unless it's bad."

"They're almost as powerful as a high ranking Mazoku. Lord Ruby Eyes created them a thousand years ago, so..."

"They're like Zelas, Dolphin, and Hellmaster then, huh? Great..."

"It's worse for you... Even though I was there, as was Riksfalto, Huraker and the other Mazoku Generals and Priests, we would not have done as well as we did without their aid back then."

"...Say what?"

"Miss Lina, Hellmaster and the original Dynast both lost their Generals and Priests and even Gaav was sealed into a human soul. Even with my help, that was still a battle that was harder than it seemed. These Mazoku, assassins, are incredibly powerful. That's all the help I can give you."

"Gee, thanks for the warning." Lina drawled as Xellos cut off the communication.

"Guess I'm the last one here." The others turned to see Vrabazard appear behind them. "So, he really has returned." He looked at Zelas and Dolphin before snorting. "Surprised you two aren't out there helping him."

"Unlike what you think, Shinzoku, we Mazoku do keep our promises." Zelas narrowed her eyes at him.

Vrabazard snorted as he walked over to Valwin and sat on a rock.

He really doubted that the humans could actually handle even a single fragment of Shabranigdo, but he would see.

Vivio liked T-Hubs well enough, ‘T’ as in Transition for long distance teleportation jumps.

They were always sprawling places gathering all sorts of interplanetary travellers and one could never run out of interesting things to look at. Plus, she had a childhood’s worth of happy memories of Fate-mama returning from deployments in said hubs and there were few scenes that could make such a lasting impression as the one of her parents in love and happily together.

Vivio stepped up to the teleportation circle with a sense of relief and completion. This was the last step, after this one, she would be home in Cranagan again and officially on leave. Nanoha-mama was no doubt ecstatic as Fate-mama had arrived just the week before. It would be good to see her family again.

Hayate’s call reached her just when the teleportation rune began to boost up, sending a sensation of tiny electrical currents running all over her skin. Vivio tapped Sacred Heart lightly, connecting the link.

“Vivio? Can you hea--- ---e? The static i-------hgshgsssss----bad--!”

“Hayate!” She felt her cheeks flush at the woman’s voice. Hayate sounded really happy even through the static. “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that!”

“Nevermind! Do you wa---hgssshgshs-- my place? I’m havi---gs--- pa---hsgsssghss –or dinner!”

“Dinner at your place? Sure, I’ll be over as soon as I get there!”

“---ood! See you---- hgsssshgs-----missed you!”

The rune came ablaze while Vivio’s stomach lurched like during a freefall. The world became pitch black with flashes of gold as the powerful spell knocked out her com-link and sent her through the roads.

Her arrival went smoothly and on time. Vivio hustled through the hub as quickly as the interplanetary security checks allowed her to before hailing a taxi. She arrived at the Yagami home a little over six and near bounced up the steps to the second floor kitchen. None of the Wolkenritter seemed to be home and she found herself pitifully grateful.

Hayate walked out from behind the stove, dressed in civies of white and light blue. Vivio had always admired how the brunette could wear clothes with such elegance. It seemed as if the slight woman could throw on any boring old blouse and pant combination and still look her rank. Her dignity came not from the lavishness of her dress or the multitude of her awards but from her natural air of grace and patient strength. Vivio’s pulse quickened as their eyes met. Hayate’s face lit up at the sight of her.

How she had missed her! All the complications of duties and the outside world faded in the light of their privacy. Even the heavenly smell of Hayate’s cooking seemed so very far away. The images of every inch and nook of the other's body suddenly crashed into Vivio’s mind while the sounds of warfare dissipated, replaced by the sensation of heated skin and smooth limbs. She shivered at the memories. The thoughts that followed consisted very little of the stuff from her childhood crush. Rhen’s words flickered briefly though her mind and she couldn’t help the grin that followed.

She would love her woman alright, long and good and fiercely.

Dinner was overrated anyway.

“Vivio! Welcome hommfffffff—!!!” Hayate’s cheerful exclamation was effectively drowned out when the blonde abruptly caught her around the waist and shoved her against the wall, capturing the brunette’s lips in a purposeful, determined kiss. She heaved her whole body against the woman, arching her hips to make sure Hayate knew exactly what she wanted.

Being the sensible one, the general tried predictably to pull away but the blonde was used to her modest antics and would have none of it tonight. Vivio kissed Hayate then, ravaged every inch of what she could kiss and reach as if The Lady herself commanded it. She attacked every weakness, pushed against every boundary as she mashed their bodies together while the brunette tried futilely to escape, again and again.

“Stop fighting me.” Vivio all but gasped into the other’s mouth as Hayate once again tried to push away but was rammed breathlessly into another kiss.

Surprisingly, Hayate did not stop struggling as she usually did but fought on even harder, her face only growing more and more crimson under Vivio’s furious attention. Finally, when even running her hands along Hayate’s sensitive flanks failed to get her anything more than an urgent, desperate plea, Vivio threw in the towel and broke away.

“What?” She growled in bewildered frustration. Hayate seemed to shrink into her arms, coughing for air in hasted gasps and near panic as she fought for words. Vivio did not understand why she had been spurned. Did she not want this?

Then, someone snickered.

The sound struck her with all the sublime grace of a starlight breaker, a tiny but significant noise which most definitely had not come from Hayate. Vivio’s stomach plummeted through the floor as the world went completely silent.

“…she’s your daughter alright.”

Vivio spun around at the voice, blood rushing to her face and suddenly wishing for a supernova to randomly strike and obliterate her from existence. She gaped. “Mamas!?!”

Fate T. Harlaown and Nanoha Takamachi were indeed sitting in the annexed living room accompanied by peaceful pot of tea. Her parents however, were acting anything but tranquil. Fate’s face was buried in her hands while she sucked in air in deep, generous gulps while her body trembled in unrestrained laughter. Her face was nearly as red as Hayate’s (though Vivio doubted it was due to the same mortifying embarrassment). Nanoha did not share her wife’s mirth. She merely sat very, very still. Her eyes were very, very wide as her jaw was parted in a perfect o. She stared at her daughter and friend (who by extension was also her boss) as if she was seeing them for what they truly were for the first time. Her cup lay in front of her, tipped over and unnoticed.

Vivio wished she could die. She wished for the sun to explode and engulf the whole system in a quick and painless inferno. She wanted to pray to all the Belkan saints to make this happen but was denied even that much since she happened to be one herself. She turned back to Hayate who looked no better for the wear.

“Wh— what… why?!” Vivio spluttered smartly, wondering if her ears had caught fire. It sure felt as though they had.

“I told you over the com-link that I invited your parents over for dinner.” Hayate supplied helpfully in a very small voice. “I guess the static got it.”

Vivio stood there like a fool while her brain turned into a pool of glop. Finally, Fate spoke up.

“Well, we’re glad you’re home Vivio,” Fate quipped all too cheerfully while Nanoha made an indignant noise. Vivio wasn’t sure if her mother looked infuriated or shocked, possibly both. “It’s good to see that you’re not wasting time to get to the important things.”

The words were barely out of Fate’s mouth before she devolved into another salve of hilarity. At this moment, Hayate’s timer decided to announce that dinner was ready and Vivio whimpered pitifully when she realized that there was truly nowhere to run.

Grit, humor and hotness! This be a heavy burden, but I shall try. I figured since deathcurse is covering all the adorable, pre-confessional lovey-lovey stuff, I might as well go for something else. Most importantly, I was snickering like hell when I wrote this.

And this is why we see that sometimes, having a one-track mind is not the best of things. Poor Vivio. Here she is all burning and ready to drag Hayate off, and her mothers are over for dinner. Well, at least it will be good practice for restraining her emotions when she's in a much nastier situation.

Hayate walked out from behind the stove, dressed in civies of white and light blue. Vivio had always admired how the brunette could wear clothes with such elegance. It seemed as if the slight woman could throw on any boring old blouse and pant combination and still look her rank. Her dignity came not from the lavishness of her dress or the multitude of her awards but from her natural air of grace and patient strength. Vivio’s pulse quickened as their eyes met. Hayate’s face lit up at the sight of her.

How she had missed her! All the complications of duties and the outside world faded in the light of their privacy. Even the heavenly smell of Hayate’s cooking seemed so very far away. The images of every inch and nook of the other's body suddenly crashed into Vivio’s mind while the sounds of warfare dissipated, replaced by the sensation of heated skin and smooth limbs. She shivered at the memories. The thoughts that followed consisted very little of the stuff from her childhood crush. Rhen’s words flickered briefly though her mind and she couldn’t help the grin that followed.

She would love her woman alright, long and good and fiercely.

Dinner was overrated anyway.

“Vivio! Welcome hommfffffff—!!!” Hayate’s cheerful exclamation was effectively drowned out when the blonde abruptly caught her around the waist and shoved her against the wall, capturing the brunette’s lips in a purposeful, determined kiss. She heaved her whole body against the woman, arching her hips to make sure Hayate knew exactly what she wanted.

Being the sensible one, the general tried predictably to pull away but the blonde was used to her modest antics and would have none of it tonight. Vivio kissed Hayate then, ravaged every inch of what she could kiss and reach as if The Lady herself commanded it. She attacked every weakness, pushed against every boundary as she mashed their bodies together while the brunette tried futilely to escape, again and again.

“Stop fighting me.” Vivio all but gasped into the other’s mouth as Hayate once again tried to push away but was rammed breathlessly into another kiss.

Surprisingly, Hayate did not stop struggling as she usually did but fought on even harder, her face only growing more and more crimson under Vivio’s furious attention. Finally, when even running her hands along Hayate’s sensitive flanks failed to get her anything more than an urgent, desperate plea, Vivio threw in the towel and broke away.

“What?” She growled in bewildered frustration. Hayate seemed to shrink into her arms, coughing for air in hasted gasps and near panic as she fought for words. Vivio did not understand why she had been spurned. Did she not want this?

Then, someone snickered.

The sound struck her with all the sublime grace of a starlight breaker, a tiny but significant noise which most definitely had not come from Hayate. Vivio’s stomach plummeted through the floor as the world went completely silent.

“…she’s your daughter alright.”

Vivio spun around at the voice, blood rushing to her face and suddenly wishing for a supernova to randomly strike and obliterate her from existence. She gaped. “Mamas!?!”

Fate T. Harlaown and Nanoha Takamachi were indeed sitting in the annexed living room accompanied by peaceful pot of tea. Her parents however, were acting anything but tranquil. Fate’s face was buried in her hands while she sucked in air in deep, generous gulps while her body trembled in unrestrained laughter. Her face was nearly as red as Hayate’s (though Vivio doubted it was due to the same mortifying embarrassment). Nanoha did not share her wife’s mirth. She merely sat very, very still. Her eyes were very, very wide as her jaw was parted in a perfect o. She stared at her daughter and friend (who by extension was also her boss) as if she was seeing them for what they truly were for the first time. Her cup lay in front of her, tipped over and unnoticed.

Vivio wished she could die. She wished for the sun to explode and engulf the whole system in a quick and painless inferno. She wanted to pray to all the Belkan saints to make this happen but was denied even that much since she happened to be one herself. She turned back to Hayate who looked no better for the wear.

“Wh— what… why?!” Vivio spluttered smartly, wondering if her ears had caught fire. It sure felt as though they had.

“I told you over the com-link that I invited your parents over for dinner.” Hayate supplied helpfully in a very small voice. “I guess the static got it.”

Vivio stood there like a fool while her brain turned into a pool of glop. Finally, Fate spoke up.

“Well, we’re glad you’re home Vivio,” Fate quipped all too cheerfully while Nanoha made an indignant noise. Vivio wasn’t sure if her mother looked infuriated or shocked, possibly both. “It’s good to see that you’re not wasting time to get to the important things.”

The words were barely out of Fate’s mouth before she devolved into another salve of hilarity. At this moment, Hayate’s timer decided to announce that dinner was ready and Vivio whimpered pitifully when she realized that there was truly nowhere to run.

Grit, humor and hotness! This be a heavy burden, but I shall try. I figured since deathcurse is covering all the adorable, pre-confessional lovey-lovey stuff, I might as well go for something else. Most importantly, I was snickering like hell when I wrote this.

Ahahahaha! Static 1: Vivio 0. Gotta work on that situational awareness thing Vi!!

Anyway, that was quite an amusing (and hot!) chapter Interesting to see how the dynamic usually is between Vi and Hayate - Vivio's enthusiasm is not surprising given that she is a bit of a hot shot frontline commander (and a Takamachi), but would have imagined Hayate to be just as game instead of putting on "modest antics" normally (if we're to carry on with the joke about her groping tendencies).

You're not going to run foul of any rules against explicit material any time soon, but I think it's at a good level as it is. The hottest line there was probably Vi telling Hayate not to fight ;D

Oh right! Well, I'm basing my characterization of Hayate on what deathcurse is doing in Prerogative of the Brave since this is the very same Hayate. She -is- quite reluctant this far in Prerogative, mostly due to the understandable age difference issues. Since Vivio is obviously the one who takes initiative in dc's story, I decided to write their interaction with a meeker Hayate who grew into the relationship slowly and with no small amount of worry, letting Vivio set the pace.

Also, speaking on Hayate's behalf: Vivio's ambushes can be quite insistent, it is natural for a woman of Hayate's social stature to put on least some measure of resistance, for dignity if nothing else xD.

But fear not, if you're after Yagami shenagians, the next part should make you more than happy =D.

Hm, I don't have the life experience Dezo has, so I interpreted Hayate's usual reaction of pulling away in modesty when ambushed amourously by Vivio as either her not being very comfortable around surprises, or her being less physically inclined and so still getting used to the very physical and passionate aspect of their relationship.

The latter explanation is kind of how I hazily imagine Hayate in my story if she were actually involved with Vivio; not so much the "I'm uneasy touching someone so much younger than I am" but more of a "I don't really think about sex all the time, so while I like making out with Vivio the thought of doing more than snuggling is not something I normally think about, and so my very initial reaction is surprise and a reflexive jumping back". I only say this in regards to how I've written Hayate, as someone who has been quite happily celibate for most of her life, and has some intimacy issues as of the beginning of the stories.

It would really depend on how long those two have been sleeping together, I think--if it's relatively new, then I could see why Hayate might have that reaction. I didn't cast their physical relationship to have been going on for long, no. Vivio is as mentioned 19 here, old enough but still very young. The whats, whys and hows of how it began happens sometime in between our stories and I haven't really given it much thought. Judging how Prerogative has been going however, I can only assume that Vivio was the brave one again .

I'm writing Hayate as the one who had to grow into the physical aspect of their relationship, since she needs to overcome ten years of treasuring Vivio as the child of her best friends. I sort of imagined her being a bit jumpy about it while Vivio always knew what she was after and went for it with trumpets blaring. So yeah, I'm gonna stick to those characterizations since the story is bloody well almost finished. I'm not rewriting any of this! xD

I like your interpretation on Hayate. Hayate, to me, had always seemed to be the sort who would do things deliberately, and for a reason(s). Every and any action is accounted for, and the impact of the action is considered. By extension, this also means that I interpreted Hayate as the sort who likes having self-control and etc.

..Aaaaand I'm stopping here before I start rambling.
