This episode outdid episode 2 in terms of comedy.

Yui and Ritsu hijacked most of the episode, though Mugi made a few successful attempts at disrupting the flow. Fear her pillow-throwing arm of doom!

I expected the 'Ui with hair down' scene. How many people thought it was actually Yui?

And both Mio and Sawako got dragged into the others' antics. I think Mio eventually figured it was useless to fight it and that letting loose for a bit was the best thing to do.

Sadly, that joke just doesn't work as well when you can hear her voice. It worked better in the manga.

Well I got trolled at the start. I thought she finally has a sense of urgent responsibility. It was all a lie.

Goddammit.

Nice little diversion I guess. Personally not as good as the previous episodes though I did like it going into the end, as a means of good band bonding.

The next episode(s?) looks like it'll focus on the 3 sophomores left behind, which is generally a good thing since it's about time the series gave some time for the other characters aside from the core 4.

I can't help but agree with that, but that's because we knew what was coming. Given that some people were still fooled, it worked for those who didn't read the manga (or forgot this particular scene).

On a side-note, does anyone know if Mugi indeed spoke in kansai-ben at some point, like I suspect she did?

Yes. She spoke very fluently in Kyoto dialect.
Kyoto dialect is a bit different from Osaka dialect. Just a bit, but people in Kyoto insist that Kyoto dialect is more decent than Osaka's. Once Kyoto was the capital of Japan, so Kyotoneans think we are the best.
Shizuru of My-HiME speaks Kyoto dialect, too.

For those who missed it, I posted this in the previous thread:

http://mottohadeni.net/blog/2010/02/...tobuki-minako/

Quote:
Nine Things to Know About Kotobuki Minako
1. Born and brought up in Kobe, Hyogo, her family was affected by the Great Hanshin Earthquake of 1995. She was aged only 3 at the time but recalls taking shelter in a car.
2. Being from the area, Mina’s Kansai accent down pat and the other Sphere girls often make her recite silly lines in the dialect for fun. Incidentally, her role in Umi Monogatari had her adopting an Okinawan accent.

Everything else, I approve. XDDD Especially the preview. =))
I expected them to actually show Ritsu in the bangs joke, but they didn't :/

Actually, the first time I watched that, I was like "Huh?"

It was during the second time I went through that scene before I figured out the "joke".

Evaluation of Episode 4

This episode is "7 out of 10 : Good"

Unfortunately I don't know any tourist attaractions in Japan,so I can't partly understand what Yui and Mio...etc say.
However, I figure out how much they enjoy thier school trip.
I guess Japanese audience is reminded of thier adolescence and burst into tears.

I am also glad that Mugi is given precious opportunities to stand out.
She looks 10 times as pretty as ever.

Why Mio and the other laughed when they talk about skull or such?

I don't get it

It is just the atmosphere. When friends gather like that and lay down to sleep and someone suddenly bluters something random, it does get funny for no particular reason.

Another fun episode. Between Ritsu and Yui's antics, Mugi's continued exploration of "normal" world things, Mio trying desperately to be the mature one (and failing) and Sawa-chan trying desperately to be the sweet, respectable teacher (and also failing) I couldn't help but laugh through almost the entire episode. 9/10 for me easily.

Next week should be interesting with Ui and Azusa being in the spotlight for most of the episode. Maybe Azusa will want someone to practice with and find out that guitar seems to run in the Hirasawa family?
