Question about name suffix in Da Capo

I've just watched Da Capo #9, and in that episode, Nemu is addressed "Nemu-tan" by the poet... What sort of suffix is "-tan"? I've never heard it before...

Yeah, I think they're all variations of -san. All you have to do is watch Sister Princess for a huge list of variations.

P.S. Lina Inverse, the picture in your signature is awesome!

-Tan is a creation of Japanese Otakus for use on the "Moe~" characters. As explained by kj1980 on a thread that I cannot find because the forum search does not allow the search on "tan"--too short/common.

Another note about -Tan that kj had mentioned, -Tan is for use by the Anime Otakus only. If by chance one were to hold a hypothetical conversation with a group of Japanese friends and one happened to use "-Tan," said person can be sure that pretty soon, social life as he/she(mostly he) knew it, would be over.

Now if I can just find that blasted thread....

I think it also derives from a baby trying to pronounce 'tan' and not getting it right.
