They are indisciminate regarding who or what to eat. We are nothing more than minerals and vespene gas to harvest, waste of carbon that must be recycled and packed. And that's what make them so horrible, because they don't give a shit about the "sacred" of the human body. "Dignity" of the dead is not programed in them. They just don't give a fuck.

But in the Total Eclipse anime, the Tank-class are shown carefully weeding through Yamashiro's Zuikaku and tossing away any of her armor so they can specifically eat Yamashiro. It would be one thing if they were eating her Zuikaku and just happened to eat her in the process because she was an object in their general NOMNOM trajectory, but that's totally not what happens when you watch that scene. Aside from that one derpy Tank that makes a point to chew her Zuikaku's head for some reason (Disabling her ability to escape? i dunno), they're completely disinterested in anything but her. They're very discriminate in what they feel like eating.
But then again the TE anime doesn't really know what it's trying to be and (from what I've heard about the game) it already completely screwed up how Laser-class work, so... |

The BETA do respect living things, as the Superior in Alternative notes, it's just that they're hard-programmed into not seeing us as such; it's not like they choose to see us as minerals, they're literally incapable of coming to a conclusion themselves that we (hence they) are more than resources (or machines). |

That's the thing that I first thought of when I first read that: did the BETA's creators deliberately insert that into their programming not primarily to prevent them from communicating with harvested victims species, but to prevent the BETA from ever staging a classic "robot rebellion" against them, so that the BETA could never rise above being biotech mining machines?

This may even be true for the rest of the universe; the possibility of natural Carbon-based lifeforms may be seen by the BETA's creators to be infinitely insignificant and in numerous cases proven to be "impossible". However, no matter how "impossible" the odds, there is always a electron-sized possibility in a universe as large as ours. We may as well happen to be that possibility, that exception to the universal norm. So our world is REALLY special, Yay! |

Heh, Rom would be pushing it, but it does make me wonder what might have happened if humanity had been able to field fully-autonomous non-biological humanoid weaponry in Muv-Luv (like the stuff in Virtual On). Would the Beta just ignore them? Or would they actually get bumped up on a higher threat priority BECAUSE they're non-carbon?

Is that disturbing or puke induncing for some people?
I guess my heart was locked closed for the VN characters. Funny thing, I can see guro as if eating candies and other stuff yet still NTR makes its way to piss me (because of how lame are the character though . |

On the light hearted side, after watching Yuuya and Yui tear into each other as rudely in the MLA Total Eclipse anime (If this wasn't the military, I'd imagine we'd have been seeing both of them mutually giving the finger to each other), I started wondering about what happened to Yuuya and Yui in the world of Extra.
Indeed, what happens if they had met in the world of Muv Luv Extra in a top ranking American University, initially hated each other with a frightening intensity and over 3-4 years, fell in love? It might make for an entertaining Romance Fanfic. |

Set in the world of Alternative? From what I gather, ANY Route in the world of Alternative will likely end in tears and Om nom nom nom. Or being Ret-gonned at best.
Now, if this was the world of Extra..... And we have Yui as one of the major characters of a typical generic Slice of Life Female-Frienship genre, who went overseas to study and married a half Japanese there.... and the running gag would be that those she disagrees with and have conflicts with the most in their first meetings often would end up to be her closest friends. The entire story, refreshingly, takes place in University, and the backstory is the typical generic high school anime setting. Anyway, my impression of Yui in Eclipse is: A broken, cold Slice of Life natured Protagonist in a grimdark world, with alot of Tsun tendencies. Of course, this is with the bias of episode 1 in mind. |

Kinda funny how this old AyuMayu clips are finally getting some attention.
BTW, I'm sure all the hardcore fans here know it, but there is a fan-club only game that reveals "what Ayu and Mayu were actually doing in Alternative world" http://www5d.biglobe.ne.jp/~oreteki/...e!!pc/080.html I think Takayuki was nom-nom-nom by then, so it sports a different protagonist that looks like straight out of Saint Seiya, and tons of Seiya parodies.
