That was some good animation. I'd love to see the movie at the cinemas, though it would be extra worth it just to see that piece of animation on the big screen.

My main focus was on the animation. Had to rewatch it straight after for the story.

It's being used as the prologue for the movie, so it's canon. In his interview, Yoshinari says that he chose to do Lord Genome's past because he thought fans would be happier with that than just an alternate universe, and that this is a parallel in that it's a path that Simon never chose.

Not sure how many times I've watched Gurepara 8, but this time I took a very close look at the army of Lazengans, where they are arranged in neat rows.

The 2nd row features Lazengans with designs inspired from(left to right):

Aestavalis?(can't think of other mechs with that head)
Neo Getter-1
Getter-1
Kotetsu Jeeg
Mazinger Z
Convoy (better known as Optimus Prime in the west)

The others are not so prominent as the 6 above, which are obvious. But you can make out a Go Shogun look alike behind Getter-1, then there's Evangelions and stuff.

Yea, its a gainax homage thing lol, Arc Gurren Lagann was EVA-03.

And it was mentioned in the fanbooks, that the Cathedral Ship can indeed gattai with Lazengan, whether through Teppelin, that I'm not sure.

But that is well Chou Ginga Gurren Lagann's head looks like Lazengan's, with horns.

You can call Genome's version Cathedral Lazengan. The main difference between CGGL and this is the shades.

03? 03 was the black unit that Toji piloted, right? How does Arc-Gurren-Lagann look anything like that?

Feeling lazy to upload images, but just google Arc Gurren Lagann and Bardiel lol.

But just look at their 'teeth', the chin structure and arrangement of eyes. Except for the circle ornament on Arc's forehead and its colour, they look alike in some ways. They also have a similar type of neck.

As awesome as Libera and GurePara 8 is, on their own, they just can't fit each other perfectly.

Libera is a song that belongs to the Gurren Dan who overcomes the impossible.

While #8 tells the story of a man who failed and gave in to the impossible.
