I had forgotten that Sasako had brought Sloth to the Cafe in the first episode. I liked how they tied that back in.
I don't think Handa has anything to worry about, I think Sasako and Handa are actually sort of similar, once again I am sure they will make a great couple once Handa gets over his shyness. Although I do think the series forgot about Sasako's love of bike riding (I would consider that a hobby). Finally it looks like Sasako and Polar Bear (in his great but not very useful disguises) were shopping at a mock Shibuya Parco. Pretty sure they have a special store open for Shirokuma Cafe now (at least I hope that is where it is because I am planning on going). Next week a hibernation episode, can't wait!

Shibuya Parco is well worth your visit (it's a ten-minute walk from where I commute to daily) as they have an anime-themed sixth floor, including a NoitaminA shop. But I don't believe there's a Shirokuma Café store there, or anywhere else I've seen. I've seen merchandise on sale at many places like Animate and Cospa (the Parco might have a store that sells some) and a café was doing a Shirokuma-themed menu, but I don't think there's a dedicated shop.

I loved the way you could practically see Panda's brain short-circuiting itself.
"It's what I really wanted... But it's from Rin-Rin. But it's what I really wanted... but it's from Rin-Rin... but... but... but..." Definitely time Panda got that restraining order put out on Rin-Rin, though, nobody likes a stalker. Penguin finally got to do his Rakugo. |

Have been buying a few Shirokuma Cafe merchandise lately, a hoodie and a box of trading glass cups (and a few more other merch coming in (*cough*Super DX Plushies of Shirokuma & Panda from UFO catcher games in Japan*cough*) while also continuing to import the Animate only exclusive LE BD release of the series, although volume 5 and the upcoming 6th volume have apparently sold out which means I have to resort to Yahoo Japan Auctions (or maybe Mandarake) to obtain them, I guess that's what I get for procrastinating too long to put in a pre-order

It's a real shame this series gets so little attention and discussion - 40 was another stellar episode. The first part was pure slice of life with a poetic and beautiful sequence with Shirokuma and the Arctic Ocean, and the second was another of the show's rare forays into earnest sentiment, which as usual it pulled off flawlessly.

Sasako as the red oni was so adorable. Too bad Polar Bear made her give it up right away.
I don't know why I enjoyed the second segment since it wasn't a particularly funny conversation on a subject that typically bores me senseless -- "Oh, do you remember the place that was next to the place?" "Oh, you mean the place with the thing?" -- yet I found the whole thing charming. Though I would've loved to see Penguin and Panda collecting the neighborhood fees. |
