Fairy Tail Anime Episode Discussion Thread [Episode 165 and Onward]

Finally Fairy Tail has its own forum after 50+ episodes and 200+ chapters. Ritsu-chan's VA voicing Wendy Marvell seems promising.

OK, the BGM during episode 53, when the good guys were getting their asses kicked, was awesome. I hope the OST comes out soon. The battle itself was incredible. I've never seen Erza get THAT trashed, even against Gerad.

Well at the end she was fighting against three at the same time. Considering each apparently can destroy a guild alone that's a lot for Erza to deal with. Definitely did a good job hanging in there all thing's considered. This series as always proves itself with some great music especially during that fight.

Anyone other then Erza got creamed by only one. She fought 2-3. That proves she could very well be one of the Holy Mages. To be fair, the fight would have gone better if Natsu was against Cobra, Erza vs Racer, and the others could handle the rest... except Brain.

PS: In the manga, they say that Itsuraya dude (the troll) is one of the most powerful mages of Blue Pegasus. HOW?

Cobra was barely even fighting back (no good openings?), but yeah, nobody else managed to block a backstab from Racer.

Well, his perfume magic already seems pretty versatile. A perfume that relieves pain to let people keep fighting, a perfume that causes debilitating pain even against one of the 10 Holy Mages, and who know what else he has. Fire perfume? Strength perfume? His personality is kind of weird but I have no trouble imagining that he could actually be useful, even if he doesn't know martial arts or whatever.

Yes. To summerize, in RPGish terms, his stats suck, but has a lot of 'effect' abilities.
Sadly, it's left to your imaginations, as Ichiya's depicted as a comic relief for the most part.

Also, as for the VS. pairings, it's pretty much as the OP shows...

It'll be the Ice mages vs Racer, Natsu vs Cobra, Erza vs Midnight, Lucy vs Angel, Jura vs Hoteye.

I'm kinda getting sick of this series in the way it put Super Over powered enemies that 1 shot everyone on the team.. That kind of stuff bores me. I'ts not entertaining to see the main character have the sht kicked out them in a split second.

Spoiler for Episode 55:

Good especially, especially on the music side. Plenty of new pieces which are fitting with the show nicely. Especially that one piece used during the last scene. Yet another epic moment for Gray.

The main focus of this weeks episode would be the return of Jellal, who's being very silent. Plenty of material for you anime original viewers to work with now.

Next weeks episode should be pretty damn good, seeing how much of the fight they'll be covering going by the preview.

Spoiler for Episode 55:

Finally a group battle where the group actually show strategy instead of just charging in melee like to get beaten by an AOE spell. And those goblin things really were cute.

Unfortunately even though the two Blue Pegasus guys got to show off their magic (Snow and Wind), their opponents were little more than high school delinquents so it wasn't very impressive. And it turns out Ichiya didn't win.

Also Erigor made a return. Which was very surprising. I liked his and Natsu's fight even though it's happened before but seeing him have a slightly easier time was very satisfiying.
Gray vs Racer was great too especially the slide and wall.

Brain got really crazy sounding near the end there. We got conformation that Cobra has super hearing (well the super what snakes do instead stuff). Jellal sounded like someone with amnesia when he said Erza so he might have amnesia I guess. He looks pretty good in Erigor's cloak too.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that the fight between Natsu and Erigor was planned in the manga but cut for time.
If you look at the original manga, Jellal does pick the coat off of a beat up person that looks very much like Erigor, they just never show the fight.

So, like the time with Loke vs. Gajeel earlier, I think this is "canon" filler, as in the author wanted to put it in the manga but had to cut it out.

Not sure about the other Dark Guilds and their magic (like the Unison pict magic, for example), but in the original they just showed them instantly all beat up.

On the issue of overpowered villains, Fairy Tail's magic isn't entire 'my power level > your power level.' It's also highly suspect to circumstantial magic compatibility and counters.

During the time of the Phantom Lord arc, if Natsu had fought with Juvia instead of Totomaru, he might had lost against her during to the nature of her water power over his fire, even though he won against a stronger mage in Gajeel.

Laxus's arc too. Natsu would have far far more trouble against any of the Raijinshuu than Laxus, since his straight-forward fighting style means it's easy to have eye-contact with him.

A mind(hearer) like Cobra who also has the physical skill to back him up ( and a poisonous snake ) was a bad, bad match against someone like Erza who's very technically skilled, fights smartly and close-ranged. ( easy suspect for a bite. )

On the other hand, Cobra would probably lose to the likes of Jura, whose Earth magic swarms from 360 angles and a larger distance without needing too much time to cast. On the other hand, any mage who takes his/her time with their magic ( like Lucy who needs a few seconds to summon a spirit ) would easily get beaten by Racer first.

Natsu'sl attitude, by nature, is already much much better match for someone like Cobra, since he thinks with his fist more than his brain. He would have more chance against Cobra than Erza would, but that doesn't mean Natsu can beat Erza.

That's the thing i like about Fairy tail, you don't have one person beating everyone else.
Its not all about power levels but also some other influences like magic type,teamwork,...
Makes the fights more exciting to watch.

I thought Ichiya would defeat everyone before they realized it, Aizen-style Oh well^^

I'd say this is one of the episodes with the best format: each event takes just as long as it should, the added material was well-handled without turning ridiculous. Cool bromance in the end with Natsu and Gray, then again Gray is always 'cool' Gellal's revival was expected, but damn the effin' cliffhanger right at the end, lots of suspense for the next week!

Yeah, I thought Ichiya would have done better; I mean, all he should need to do is uncork a paralyzing parfum and everyone who smells it would be knocked out.

THe OP did hint at some, but not all of those matchups. I didn't see anything to hint at Erza vs Midnight, or Jura vs Hoteye. The only clear fights were Natsu vs Cobra, Lucy vs Angel, and Ice mages vs Racer. More hinted at Jura vs Brains than anything else.

Spoiler for Ep55:

A great job by Gray. After that lame loss against Bixlow he needed a rebound. Helping to stall Racer and give Natsu time to get Weny to Erza definitely fits his character. He'll have trouble against that speed by himself, but plenty of allies heading in that direction to lend him a hand.

Do wonder what is up with Jellal. The guy is acting weird to put it nicely. He was really quiet not reacting to Natsu other than knocking him out of the way. Not that tough since if it wasn't for the Etherion power-up Natsu would have lost the first time. Though wonder what he's up to. Didn't react to Wendy and only said Erza's name once after leaving.

Still wonder if it wasn't Mystogan who saved Wendy. Though she knew him as Jellal and Mystogan was fairly adamant that he wasn't Jellal, so maybe it was Jellal? Oh I have no idea what's going on there. Wish he would show up and explain everything.

Damn healing Magic seems to have a high consequence. Maybe she needs to 'eat' some air . Can imagine the tough position hearing rumors that someone who saved you was doing terrible things and then seeing him like that. Sorry Happy, but while he caused hell for you that doesn't mean Wendy is going to suddenly hate him.

A good rematch with Natsu vs Erigor. Really shows that Natsu has steadily grown stronger as time has gone on.

Got to see some of the other group's magic which was nice. Ichiya losing....wow that guy really is sad. Well at least he's still got some comedy value.

Things are getting pretty busy now.

Ichiya is just a huge dissapointment, have no idea why he was even included in the team because so far Angel showed far more skills using his body than he himself... Just another huge idiot...

Anyway liked Gray VS Racer, especially the last part with wall.

The teams beat there respective opponents this time with teamwork, Ichiya is the only idiot to loose, maybe that was because he ws alone, the Blue Pegasus' guys got to show their magic, Natsu owned his rematch against Erigor, who i would have never thought of seeing again, so Wendy revives Jellal, acted weird, didn't even say a thing or thank Wendy, he beat up Brain and Natsu, Wendy's healing magic takes a toll, hopefully she'll be ready to heal Erza, Gray holds off Racer for a bit, Jellal after Erza maybe, i wonder what his true personality is, also wonder how he saved Wendy, also Chalres didn't know who Jellal was, but i guess that happened before Wendy became a mage and found Charles, also wonder how Brain knows Jellal, he did say that Jellal was never hostile towards him, unless his hunch of his motives is right, so next week Gray and Lyon team up against Racer, hope Natsu reaches Erza
