Simply, it differs. A LOT. The first half is mostly entirely new stuff (but kind of has its roots in episode 8), the middle is based on episode 12, and the last section is based on episodes 17-19. As such, it covers a lot of ground...too much to comfortably call it an "improvement" on the series. One of my friends, after watching 1.0 said he liked it, but that "it didn't do EVERYTHING better than the TV series did." I think that fits for 2.0 as well. It's different; you may like it, you may not. As for the new character, she's still a bit of a mystery. She's a hell of a lot of fun, though. |

Ah I see Gainax's marketing is once more going full throttle. Unfortunately though, aside from the Sadamoto-drawn Mari pic, they're talking about the TV series instead. Note the kana used to spell Evangelion; the movies use different characters for it.

I'd like to know from anyone who has seen 2.0. Is this unjustified or valid?

This is common enough, and frankly I think this blogger is blowing things out of proportion. The movie was great, really, and the only real issue I had was the fact that, although the events are supposed to occur over the course of several months ("Gaghiel" to "Israfel" to Sahaquiel to Bardiel to Zeruel, which occurs from early summer to late autumn in the TV series) it barely feels that way (more like weeks, hahaha).

At first glance, I'd say Iruel (Nanomachine Angel), Arael (Mindrape Angel), and Armisael (DNA strand/Fusion tower Angel). There are supposedly 18 Angels in the TV Canon (with Humanis/Humanity as the last). In game canon, there are 19 if you include Yamagishi Mayumi's Angel Translucis/Mihr (Ethereal Butterfly Angel, Angel of "Truth").
If you add the unnamed Angels from the artbooks, then that brings the number to a whopping 22 Angels, which means that seven Angels are missing in the picture.

I guess I can see where the negative reviewer is coming from, but I find it difficult to believe that he honestly found ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the movie to praise. At the VERY least, it seems to me that no one can deny that it's visually spectacular. |
