So, to put things into perspective.
For example, in Umineko you got a large chunk of continued story per follow-up and the wait in between caused the necessary suspense and speculation, so it kind of justified the format and actually enhanced the experience at the time. But with the Angel Beats visual novel I'm getting more of an impression that volume 1 is basically the base game with some included routes. Now, what these following volumes do is basically add new routes, with the last and final sixth volume probably having the desired 'True Route'. So basically you are buying standalone expansion sets to get the full product, and usually you'd be inclined not to leave something unfinished and thus buy the whole set. Ka-ching! for them. Then again, I do understand that they justified this method by saying that it would otherwise take them a few more years to get the entire game out. But the other hand it better be a hell of a long game because separate volumes for a mere 5 or so extra hours is a bit unnecessary to me. |

I don't think however that we'll be treated to an unfinished work. Most likely, Jun Maeda will be working on this as "arcs". For example, arc 1 could be the whole Tenshi arc and introduction of the shadows.
Arc 2 could be about dealing with the shadows and the "ending" of the anime. Arc 3 could be Otonashi's quest on the "another ending" The rest is anyone's guess

^how would the arcs work? do you mean like, in each volume there will be one arc? would they each be mainly in the common route, and the character routes for each volume would be dealing with those arcs in slightly different ways?
I was under the impression that volume 1 would be the common route and first 3 character arcs, then volume 2 would be like an update, where you need to have volume 1 installed, and the second volume just adds more character routes and dialogue for common route o-o actually after typing this i like your idea ^_^ but that would mean Yui would only appear in arc 1 and not the others D:

Think of how Kokoro Connect did it's visual novels.
Kind of like that. Each arc has a lot of possibilities for routes and stuff. Second arc starts from where the anime started or something at say, episode 11. third arc starts at the another end. I don't know, just thinking out loud. I don't think it'll be split in volume 1 = kinetic novel with no choices just to shove volume 2 at you with some choices, etc. Cheers

but yeah i get what you mean, that's a really good idea you have ^_^ I just hope if that does happen, that finishing a character route won't mean they have to disappear. Yui and Iwasawa ae too good Q.Q

Are they going to adopt a DLC model for Angel Beats Visual Novel? I really suspect they might end up selling certain endings as DLC, or selling bonus DLC routes.
The thing is, there's no more suspense or mystery left about the Angel Beats world. Unless Maeda surprises us, most of the mechanics are known, except for who exactly created the Angel Beats world. The upside though, I think is that the pacing problems that benighted the anime stories (Iwazawa was good, and everything else fell apart because there wasn't simply the time to deliver those stories well) should be solved. I don't think there's a risk of desensitization, if each of the issues are sufficiently well differentiated, and each ending is subtly emotionally different. But whether or not Maeda can pull this off is another matter altogether What makes Angel Beats interesting is that in Angel Beats, the "Dream World" aspect of Maeda's works are laid completely bare from the start, and all participants realize it. Another angle is that Angel Beats is a shared death dream of complete strangers, not friends, or family. Maeda has so far used it for comedy, I wonder whether he could do more with the fact that all the dreamers know they are dreaming, for more than just comedy (because really, that interesting feature wasn't exploited beyond comedy, though the comedy in my opinion was hilarious). |

eh i thought it was said there won't be H-scenes in this VN O_O I guess I got wrong information...
I hope this is like, a special scene that can only happen with certain choices, so we can possibly skip and go to the main story if we don't want them :3 but who knows xD does anyone know what it says there? and will there be other scans for the other routes in volume 1? And if they do make an eroge version, expect no voices other than as a fan patch (like Fate/Stay Night), since I'm pretty sure none of the voice actors/actresses do H stuff other than Yuri's actress. |

Considering key's recent record, though, we WILL get something in that front eventually. After all, this is guaranteed to sell. Oh, and CG at last! This really is happening! We're getting an angel beats VN! @Arturia Awesome as Yuri is, it is way too soon to tell. The whole point of this (for the fans) is to get a better look into the characters. For all we know, Yusa might end up being the best girl. |
