I can probably only emphasise some of the anime already brought up. Even though the trend is changing a little, there seem to be very few good anime with strong female characters as leads.
Fate/Stay Night: probably my pick of the bunch. Nice to see the traditional roles reversed here, great storyline with a mix of action/comedy/drama/romance. Epic. I really loved this series. Mai-HiME: Purposefully designed to switch traditional roles in anime. Has a strong ensemble cast with the female's taking over on the action front. Actually surprised me quite a bit, and I'm glad I watched through the first few shaky episodes. Comedy/Action/Romance. Then if you feel like sacrificing your soul you could always try Mai-Otome (the AU sequel) wasn't my cup of tea, but some people like it. Supposed to be very similar to HiME but I didn't find it quite as interesting. I'm really grasping for straws here, but if you wanted to branch out a bit Kannazuki no Miko may fit your requirements. This is a hard one as the female lead action scenes come much later in the series. That and it does have yuri themes... so I guess it just depends on your ability to watch something a little different. I actually quite enjoyed it, and at 12 episodes long, it's an easy quick anime to watch. |
