Yeah the prologue chapters are rather weak compared to later on. It gets real good, real fast, the main villain is just awesome, as is the character introduced in episode 5.

So while Soul Eater may borrow conventions of other Shounen it does manage to stand out on its own. A nice art style can only get an anime or Manga so far.

I can't agree more Soul Eater is not just art, music and style. Its characters and its story are terrific as well! It may seem similar to popular shounen nowadays, but it definitely ain't your typical shounen xD The characters themselves prove that a lot already xD

I lolled hard at the episode, all 3 of them was a perfect match for their voices.. Pat, Liz and Kidd have perfect VAs selected. And I almost forget that, that is Raito/Setsuna XD.

They may same similar things, though let's get things straight --- Black Star is no way near the level that Kamina is when it comes to speeches. No way near.

And to be honest, Liz and Pat's fight scene was much better then Kidd's.. he was just getting stamped to the ground while admiring the stomper.. then table turned and the rest is history.

Also, the anime seems to make Soul and BS closer earlier then the manga. So is Maka and Tsubaki.. Makes you wonder how they'll actually fair if paired up.

I dont like how people are comparing B*S with Kamina. Sure they both have big egos, but while B*S tries really hard to be noticed, to be the center of attention, to be the hero/main character/protagonist, Kamina just does that naturally. You know?
