One Piece - Chapter 650 [manga]
Welcome to the weekly manga discussion thread for One Piece.
Thread Guidelines
Well now, last chapter revealed some most startling information concerning the mermaid princess. What shocking info will THIS week's edition unearth? Let's find out..... BTW, credit for spoilers goes to ohana for the summary and APforums' CCC for translation: -Chapter title is "You Should Keep These Two Changes In Mind". The ministory features Tonjit (the old man from the Davy Back Fight arc). -Robin continues her conversation with Neptune. It's revealed that there are three ancient weapons: Poseidon, Pluton, and Uranus. Both are worried that people would hunt down Shira if her secret were known. However, it turns out that a certain swampy supernova was eavesdropping on the conversation...... -Meanwhile, Jinbei informs Luffy of certain events that took place during the skip. He first explains that marine admirals Aokiji and Akainu fought each other. Looks like what sparked the battle was Sengoku pushing for Aokiji to take the FA position, while the WG higher-ups supported Akainu instead. Therefore, it was agreed that both admirals would duel over the position, and the grueling 10-day battle resulted in the red hound's victory. The newly appointed FA spares Aokiji after the duel, but it's revealed that his current whereabouts are unknown, as he abandoned the marines..... -Jinbei next reveals that Blackbeard has become an emperor. Since Teach was familiar with Whitebeard's territory, he had no problem conquering it, and is now a peer alongside Shanks and the other Yonkou. Apparently Luffy tires of his talk with Jinbei, and soon discovers Caribou, who tried to capture Shirahoshi. The swamp-man escapes, tamatebako in hand. It's at that moment when the royal guards appear, and reveal that Hody and his group have all turned into old geezers. The tamatebako was the source of the Energy Steroids. -Another soldier mentions that an envoy from Big Mom's crew arrived and is expecting a candy offering, but their supply was exhausted during the previous chapter's celebration. The right minister then considers making an excuse to the pirate empress, in order to quell her wrath.... ...Wow. The amount of info this chapter is totally staggering. The names of all ancient weapons, the reveal of the hinted "marine incident", Blackbeard becoming emperor, ES coming from the tamatebako (anyone still thinks that's the key to Shira joining now? ) And an envoy from Big Mom..... of course, we predicted most of these events already, but it's still awesome, nonetheless. I wonder if this means that Aokiji joined Dragon after leaving the marines..... Man, I can't wait for this chapter....! UPDATE: THIS CHAPTER WILL BE RELEASED IN A DOUBLE ISSUE, WHICH MEANS THERE WILL BE NO CHAPTER NEXT WEEK, SO DO NOT EXPECT TO SEE A NEW THREAD UNTIL THE WEEK AFTER NEXT INSTEAD. The Aokiji spoiler is what hit me the hardest. I really didn't expect that at all. So now there are two open positions for admiral... Smoker and.... who else? Coby is a serious possibility considering how quickly he trained from absolutely nothing to being able to use soru and having haki. Momonga could be one too, but it's doubtful, he didn't really show anything amazing. The most likely scenario though is that it's someone we have yet to see.
As for Aokiji... hmm. He might join up with the revolutionaries like you said. From what I read in the spoilers it appears he was disgusted by the WG? That they would request such a man to be the FA. I'll probably get hate for this, but he could join up with the Straw Hats, it's not very likely but maybe. I wonder if this chapter has set Big Mom or Caribou up to be the true final boss of the double arc which I am suspecting this one will be. Kind of like W7 and Enies.

Now we are talking about a real crisis. Caribou overheard everything and they don't know. Now he has way better reasons to kidnap Shirahoshi than just to sell her.
And about the Tamatebako, yep I knew it would be this since a long time already, though the spoiler is somehow empty. They turned old, yes, but they also gained insane amounts of strenghts in exchange. It shouldn't be now a surprise that Hody's hair turned white. |

No way is Coby gonna become an admiral so soon after the skip (even VA is hoping for too much, IMO). To be honest, the highest rank I can see him getting now is captain, which was Smoker's rank when he was first introduced. After all, no matter how much stronger he became during those 2 years, it would mean jack if he didn't have the experience to back it up..... Personally, I'm rooting for Tsuru as a new admiral (laundry powers, ACTIVATE! ), with Doberman and Onigumo being my runner-up choices..... |

If Luffy has to go with his made promises then his promise to protect Shirahoshi can only be realized if he stays with her. Unless they can capture Caribou before he can tell anything of the sort to another.
And Aokiji development looks great. Considering that he comes along the traditions of Sengoku and Garp, him leaving the marines is as good as anything that can happen in this series. May also point towards the next big battle against the world government, and the pieces to join with him. And let's see how the encounter with Big Mom's men will play out. Will the Lola connection appear here? |

I'm disapointed there was no mention of any of the new Shichbukai postions....or even anythin regarding WB's crew....what became of them??
Its not a surprise the higher ups wanted Akainu as Fleet Admiral.... that guy did the business in the war against Whitebeard - and he's just the type they need in this crazy time of pirates runng wild on the sea...along with the fact you got a crap load of Level 6 prisoners probably still loose I can't wait to find out what happenned to Kuzan - the last thing the Marines need is someone liike him abandoning them and then disappearing....crazy times are ahead.... Epic stuff. Great chapter... |

Yeah, Akainu being FA was a pretty easy guess as most predicted. The shocker is the duel itself. I thought that the appointment would be fairly straight forward with Akainu having most support among Marine (according to GREEN) and he seem to be in tone to the way Gorosei operates. Though with Aoikiji currently MIA things could get interesting.
Tamatebako being source of ES is interesting, while some suggest it before, the question I have is that Tamatebako was supposed to be in the Palace until Caribou took it during the event, so exactly how did Hody and co. got their hands on it? Though if nothing else, to me Caribou's eavesdropping as well as confirmation of Akainu's promotion further convince me that FI would not be safe for her to stay. How she would leave is anyone's guess. Quote:
Magellan is unlikely, considering he is technically Sengoku's equal as far as position goes (Marine HQ=EL=ID) unless there is a hierarchy shake-up in WG.

I still think Magellan will become a VA, personally.
.....Along with Jango and Fullbody. Quote:
Maybe we'll find out about that stuff next chapter. I mean, the presence of Big Mama's men on the island should reveal some interesting info too, yes? Though as far as the warlords are concerned, Buggy's as good as confirmed, at least . And though I don't agree with it, I might as well bring it up since someone else will eventually say it anyway: AOKIJI FOR STRAW-HAT! And sadly, I must make a rather disappointing announcement. Check out the opening post for the details, as I shall be updating it now.... |

Edit: I have to say I am still kind of wanting a rematch for Luffy and him though.

NEW WORLD BABY~!

Thinking about how Akainu is... I don't think Aokiji left that fight without a scar or something... Akainu can be pretty ruthless... wonder if the anime will expand on this with a small fight scene?
I also wonder what Kizaru was doing during all of this? Still upholding lazy justice~?

So Akainu was promoted to Fleet Admiral, as we suspected all along. But damn, a 10 day duel between 2 admirals? The 5 day duel between Jimbei and Ace was already crazy enough, but this development is insane. This also undoubtedly proves that Akainu>Aokiji. Funny how the only thing I got wrong in my marine incident prediction was Aokiji fighting Akainu instead of Garp.
People on this forum who know me well know what new info pleases me greatly, I'm sure. My boy Blackbeard has become an emperor ! Can't wait to see him and his crew reigning supreme over their territories in the New World. Tametebako being the source of the ES is rather interesting. Looking forward to discovering more on this in the future.

I really wonder what he's been doing this past few years. Maybe he, Garp, and Sengoku will form their own anti-Akainu faction... Quote:
