I'm getting kinda confused with the nature of vol. 4. So does this mean that there are still some materials out there that are not part of the published novels? I dunno if I was being misinformed myself or what but someone told me back then that the part where it explains Mayaka's behavior towards houtarou was not included in vol.5.

Novel 4 is a collection of short stories which were all serialized in The Sneaker or Wilderness Era (except the final one, which was newly written for the novel) that tend to focus on Houtarou/Eru (with the Valentine's Day story differing). After it was published, Yonezawa wrote another short story that was serialized in Wilderness Era. That story was adapted for episode 18 and will be included with BD/LE DVD volume 9. Since then, Yonezawa wrote another set of stories which was published as volume 5 since it was one long story and the other short story couldn't be included with it. He also wrote another short story which details why Mayaka acts how she does towards Houtarou which was serialized in Wilderness Era this year. Thus we have two short stories which were serialized, but not published in novel form and one novel which was serialized prior to publication.

I think what ultimatemegax meant was that the story differed because it didn't focus on Eru and Houtarou like the other short stories in volume 4

you should root for a movie, that might be the fastest way to see it. we are probably 1+ more book from a second 11-13 episodes TV season, (the first "run" really cover TWO TV seasons already, Spring and Summer 2012, "one season" does not cover 22-26 episodes like Hyouka did, which is why I say a "new Hyouka 2nd season" is a misnomer, one way you can tell? new OP/ED.) consider the author's pace and other works...

Yeah, I know the title. I'm just wondering if the distance between the 2 here is that between Oreki x Chitanda or Chitanda x Oohina. From the parts I read, looks more like Oreki is trying to solve the conflict between the 2 girls.
