Finally watched the OAV and... well, I got some mixed feelings with this one.

Spoiler for Black Rock Shooter:

The OAV certainly delivered what you can expect from Huke and how he designed the backgrounds in any BRS arts.
That being said, although we were warned by the trailer regarding the highschool content, I was rather disappointed.

The transitions were quite rough, but it wasn't exactly an issue, since I can see why the director wanted to switch between both worlds (otherwise, the OAV would have been extremely unbalanced).
The problem is how little content you can learn from the story. Basically, as much as we got your "generic" friendship between 2 highschool girls, the main dish, the "black rock shooter world" was basically left totally unanswered.
I couldn't exactly connect the dots due to the lack of information and before I reached the end of the OAV, I was thinking we were shown different dimensions involving the same characters, but affected by different setup... until they are actually tied for some reason.

I do not call it bad, but I wish they could have expanded a bit more about the Black Rock Shooter world and BRS herself, as in the end, it seems she isn't Matou, but a completely different entity.
The lack of information and whatnot didn't strike well for the fights, completely "mute", which impaired for any possibility of "tension".

As for the quality, it was nicely animated and the pace was very good for the battles. However, it doesn't take too long to notice a lack of frames in various animated portions (notably the clothes and some instances with Dead Master's chains).

The music was... unexpectedly discreet, especially since it was Ryo who was taking care of that. I think the whole structure of the OAV was the cause of this problem, because there was no way for a substancial pumping BGM when the sequences were cut short all the time

In conclusion, I would say that BRS OAV was sort of overhyped: they didn't really cover much substance regarding this franchise (especially if you consider the very random sequence at the start between "Black Blade" BRS and BlackGold Saw).
I won't complain if it is only a pilot media in order to introduce the BRS universe, but they ought to make something more developped than this

Yes, the first sequence and the post-ending sequence were the elements that made me think of it as a pilot episode. Hopefully it won't take too long for them for a series of OVA or -who knows?- a full fledged TV series.

Funnily enough, there wasn't even the BRS song as either the OP or ED. I was expecting a version of Hanazawa as the ED... a shame.
The theme was used twice or thrice during the OVA though.

Where's the OVA? It's not on their English site?

The OVA isn't on the english site but you can find it on several streaming sites, raw, but english subs should be coming soon.

Streaming sites like what? I tried the Japanese site, Youtube and NicoNico, and all turned up negative. I couldn't imagine the team not streaming on any of those high traffic places.

No I am not asking for raws or DVD rips, please. Just the stream.
