Much of my time here in St. Olivie Monastery was dominated mostly by prayers. It was a miracle in itself that the Sisters and the Mother Superior allowed me to do such a thing even though they require that each and everyone of their members practice equally prayers, charity, poverty, chastity, and obedience. I mostly do prayers and sometimes obedience (chastity and poverty are a given). I came here at the monastery two years ago to escape the madness that was reality and the Mother Superior knew that; she was the only one, and I mean the only one, in the covenant who knew my entire story. She does scold me once in awhile for not doing all of my duties as dictated but she would always let it pass, much to the dismay of the other Sisters who were here just as long as me or more. But I always had an inkling feeling that my duties would ultimately be thrust upon me...and I was right.
It took a whole three hours for the storm to subside that night and incredibly, the blond women made it through the entire ordeal without so much as giving up. I wasn't much of a Doctor but even I knew that a normal person would have died if they had lost that much amount of blood. Mother Superior, who was once a Nurse, was able to stabilize the woman's condition until the town's Doctor came and took over. A grueling two hours had past until the Doctor came out of the infirmary with the news that I was hoping to hear; she would make it. A sigh of relief escaped my quivering lips and I felt relaxed. Why? I had not the faintest idea.
“Well, I was able to stitch her up real good but with that amount of blood loss, it would take a very long time for her to recover...if she's lucky,” he said, making sure all of his instruments were inside his leather bag. “So I'm going to go back to town to see if I can find some blood donors so I can speed up the healing process.”
Mother Superior only nodded but I couldn't accept what the Doctor had said.
“But it would take some time to find suitable donors, wouldn't it, Doctor?” I asked, taking a step towards him apprehensively. He looked at me tiredly and replied,”Yes, yes it would.” He snapped closed his bag and was about to leave when I spoke again. “Please, I'm begging you. Take some blood out of me. Surely you can do that much?”
Both he and Mother Superior gave me a questioning look.
“But I don't know what Blood Color she is and-”
I interrupted him by saying,”Can you check?”
He looked between me and Mother Superior who, to my utter relief, shrugged, which I took as a good sign. After looking at us one last time, he sighed, rubbing the back of his head. “I guess I'm obligated to do it. Okay, follow me.”
I did as I was told but not before giving one last look to Mother Superior who seems to be quite amused by the entire situation. I mentally sighed; I was so going to be getting a long lecture for this later.
The Infirmary was the biggest room in the entire convent and it was made that way on purpose. Considering we're neighboring the rich Kingdom of Neo Francaesia, conflicts in the past has erupted between this country, Neo Burgundia, with Neo Francaesia and there were countless fatalities on both sides; even Monastery's had to help out the injured Soldiers and Knights. The reason behind the conflicts? Who can answer such a question. But now 20 years of peace has been established and the Monastery's infirmary is now being used to help out the poor and the occasional sick and now...the random severely wounded.
The stranger was at the first bed at our left side next to the small round table that had the only lit candle which made everything else surrounding it pitch-black. It was the first bed that was in sight when I carried her here to the long rectangular room; any farther away probably would have been problematic for the women. As I made my way to the sleeping figure, I noticed that her sheets, unlike the rest in the room, were covered mostly of blood; not that the others did have any mind you. It was a big stain though...
A loud cough brought me back to the room.
“Please Sister, uh...” he laughed nervously and at that moment I knew what he was trying to do.
“Oh! Uh, Na-S-Serenity.” I answered and he nodded, taking out a weird “pump” with two rubber tubes that was protruding from the ends of a black cylinder; I could have sworn that those tubes were as long as me.
“Sister Serenity, can you sit on the opposite bed and roll up your right sleeve?” asked the Doctor, now taking out a pin and four strips of paper from his bag. I sat on the bed and after rolling up my sleeves, he began to touch my arm and I had to look away; it was too embarrassing.
The Doctor, noticing my discomfort, smiled gently at me and said in a soothing voice,”Don't worry. I'm just looking for a healthy vein for later.” I nodded sheepishly and after letting out a triumph cry, the Doctor took the pin that he had placed beside me moments ago and pricked my index finger. I flinched but I did not move my hands from his. He then took one of the thin strips of white paper and had a drop of my blood land on the paper right at the middle. After he was done, he did the exact same thing with the blond but with less movement from the women. When he was done with her, he had the other two strips of paper placed underneath the blood covered ones with careful precision.
“So how will you figure out our Blood Colors?” I asked despite myself, looking all the while at the sleeping women across from me.
Without looking at me, the Doctor replied with a smile, ”You'll see.” As if trying to prove his point, he took out a small glass bottle that was filled with gray, foggy liquid. I just stared at it, confusion quite evident on my face. Ignoring my reaction, the Doctor grabbed it at both ends and began to shake it really hard. It would be a whole minute until he stops and when he does, I was shocked to see that the liquid had turn...clear.
“Oh, wow...”
After making sure that the liquid was suppose to be in that state, he took out a tiny spoon and poured a small amount of it on. Then, very carefully, he touched it with one of his fingers and allowed a drop to fall on top of the blood-covered strips; he repeated his action with the second one.
“There,” he said, putting away the bottle back to where it came from. Minutes passed by and fear began to crept up at my heart.
If it's taking this long just to figure out our Blood Color, then it would be even worse if the results turn out to be negative. Oh, please God! Please let our Blood Colors match!
“Sister Serenity?”
I opened my eyes; when did I closed them? I looked up and I found that the Doctor was smiling broadly. Could it be...?
“Both your Blood Colors...are a match.” he said, with sincerity. I gasped and brought a hand to my mouth, relieved to hear the news. I took a peek behind him and saw the exposed non-blood strips of paper; both had green circles on them.
“Now, with your permission, may I insert the needle on your arm to bring out the blood?”
I nodded, tears streaming down my face. Why was I crying?
The Doctor had inserted a needle through the blonds left arm and then connected a tube from the cylinder to it. After adjusting a few things, he did the same with me and for the most part, it hurt but the pain soon subsided.
“Sister Serenity, would you please lay down on the bed; you will begin to feel dizzy and I fear you will get hurt,” said the Doctor. I complied and he pressed a button that was on top of the cylinder; it sprang to life and I immediately felt woozy.
“Don't you worry now, Sister,” he said, walking to the door. “It will automatically stop when the women receives the amount of blood needed; it will never go over.”
“Thank you,” I half-whispered, feeling the effects from losing blood. He gave me one last smile and he stepped out of the room leaving me alone with a complete stranger whom I've never met before in my life.
I laid there on that bed staring at the ceiling, for how long, I do not know. The weak, copper hue that was emitting from the candle was obscuring itself with the darkness and soon after, all other colors began to make their appearances, swirling all around me in a mystifying matter. How long that lasted was also lost to me but I then began to notice that the room was spinning, slow at first, but increasing with each passing minute. I gasped weakly and I knew that instant that I was reaching my limit. With my remaining strength, I turned over to face the wounded women who appeared out from a storm and..
.burgundy eyes were staring right back at me.
My heart skipped a beat and...
...I blacked out.
~~~
I cannot remember the last time that I had slept so soundly. I guess the closest I could think of was the time I was four years old and my parents held me close one night, whispering to me how much they loved me. At that moment, I felt the safest...until it was all taken away from me in one swoop. Since then, I never again felt the warm arms embracing me and telling me that everything will turn out to be okay. Telling me how much they loved me; my arms had never felt so cold and...empty.
I slowly opened my eyes and groaned when bright rays of light hit me full force. I tried to sit up but my arms gave away and I went right back down on the pillow. I sighed; this was not what I signed up for when I agreed to give out blood. Then I realized that my right arm was free from the needle and as soon as my mind had registered that fact, I quickly looked at the bed next to me and saw...the women sleeping soundly, new sheets having been properly replaced.
I stare at her, last night's event playing in my mind vividly.
Burgundy eyes...
Was she awake then? She shouldn't have been...and yet...
After laying down on the bed for a good fifteen minutes, I slowly brought myself up in a sitting position. I closed my eyes for a second, trying to recollect my thoughts and when I knew that I had enough strength to stand, I did so abet more carefully. Slowly, I walked up to her, my heartbeat escalating so rapidly to the point that I could feel it hitting my chest. Why was I feeling this way? Do I know her or its just a natural reaction from my training as a Nun? But why now? Before I would shut myself in my room to pray whenever Mother Superior would make us 'help' the poor. After that incident, I swore I would not have any kind of contact with the outside world.
Period.
I shook my head and left the women; I needed to speak with Mother Superior and quick. Just as I was about to open the door, a weak voice stopped me in my tracks.
Turning around rapidly, my eyes landed on the stranger and I was able to hear her again but much more clearly.
“A-Alicia,” the women gasped. “N-no...come b-back....Ali-Alicia...”
I ran quickly to her and soothingly brushed a few strands of wet hair from the woman's closed eyes, not failing to notice that the blond was shivering under my touch. I just stood there, gently stroking the woman's forehead, time passing me by silently. After making sure that she had calm down somewhat, I brought the sheets closer to her neck and left her, my heart aching every step that I took towards the door.
What is going on?
~~~~
The walk to Mother Superiors office was uneventful to say the least. Each step was heavy as the last, my feet dragging itself from the cobblestone floor without much strength. Maybe it was due in part of last night's blood-giving. Yes, it has to be that. Groaning, I climbed the stairs one step at a time until I reached the floor above. After catching my breath, I made my way to Mother Superiors office and was about to knock when I heard my name mentioned.
“It has to be because of Nanoha!” yelled an unknown guy.
I blinked.
Okay, two things we're wrong with this picture. First of, my name was used an accusing matter and I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with me not being the best Nun in the world. And secondly, it was a man in that office which, according to our rules, no man is allowed to enter this monastery unless it is to help a man. And by his shout, that wasn't the case either. I stepped a little closer to the office and then placed my right ear to the cold, oak door, feeling a little guilty but I was too curious to not eavesdrop.
“What do you mean by that, Mr. Argos?” replied Mother Superior in a neutral voice but I knew that she was holding back her tongue.
There was a loud banging noise and I'm going to assume that the man had slammed his hands on Mother Superiors desk.
“Because she is nothing but bad luck!”
I scowled.
Bad luck, me? What have I done to be labeled as a person that brings misfortune to other people? Yes, I had bad luck in the past but I don't remember ever giving my horrendous luck to other people. Mother Superior thought the exact same thing because she replied, more coolly,” Funny, I don't recall Nanoha ever bringing bad luck to Neo Burgundia. She's not the best Nun in the world but she does not bring any of us bad luck. On the contrary, she's a very sweet girl who helped out an injured Knight.”
Wait...a Knight?
The man hissed. “Exactly! Exactly my point! She brought in a Royal
Neo Francaesian Knight into Neo Burgundia! She has doomed us all!”
Okay...now I'm confused.
“I've had enough of this!” said Mother Superior, firmly and I heard a chair sliding across the floor. “I will not deny that this Knight is from Neo Francaesia and yes, Nanoha helped her but!” She paused to add affect. “But, this Knight you fear so much
came to us first!”
“Which is why you should have let her died!” screamed the man. “She could be a
SPY!”
Mother Superior seemed to have had enough. “How dare you say such a thing! I will not tolerate this madness any longer! Please, Mr. Argos, go and tell that Mayor of yours that he should stop reading the Doctors blog and come himself if he wants to talk about conspiracy's and not hide behind a messenger with no manners!” Hearing heavy footsteps coming my way, I squeaked and ran as fast as my legs could take me and hid behind a stone pillar at the end of the hallway. As if on cue, the door to Mother Superiors room slammed open and out came an annoyed man whom I couldn't really take a good look at his appearance. I stood there a good three minutes and after I heard no more footsteps, I let out a sigh of relief.
“So tell me, Sister Serenity or should I say
Nanoha?” began Mother Superior from the other side of the pillar. “Did you hear anything interesting?”
I yelped and fell to the floor. Rubbing my butt, I grabbed Mother Superiors offered hand and stood up, pouting as she laughed at my clumsiness.
“The truth?” I asked, sheepishly.
She nodded and I sighed.
Shoulders slumped and head bowed, I replied,”I heard enough to be confused.”
Mother Superior looked at me and frowned. She then shook her head, a soft chuckle coming from her lips. I tilted my head to one side; has she gone insane? Mother Superior turned her back on me and proceeded towards her office and in an instant, I followed, regretting eavesdropping on her conversation. After Mother Superior closed the door behind me, we both sat down and I couldn't help but fidget in my seat non-discreetly. I hope I'm not in too much trouble...
“Nanoha, normally I would have told you to relax but seeing how things are playing out now, I regret to say that I can't tell you that because that would be lying,” she said, resting her head on her hands that were plopped up on her desk.
I didn't know what to say to that so I just nodded.
“As you have already heard, we have a Knight in our premises but,” She stood up and turned her back on me, hands clasped behind her. “She's no ordinary Knight.”
This time, I spoke.
“But why mention that I brought bad luck?”
At this, Mother Superior sighed. “Because you brought in a Knight from a country that Neo Burgundia has waged war upon for thousands of years. In other words, the Knight was the bad luck you brought in.”
“I still don't-”
“No one knows the reason anymore,” interrupted Mother Superior. “This...war. Even our previous King did not know why. He was just following tradition that has been passed down for years. Luckily, his Successor did not want to follow the bloodshed that his family had set and signed a Peace treaty with the King of Neo Francaesia 20 years ago thus ending the war...for the time being.”
“Okay, now I'm more confused,” I said, shaking my head. “If there has been peace for more than two decades, why start thinking that Neo Francaesia is setting up something when I brought in a foreign Knight?”
Mother Superior turned to face me and said sadly,”Because there are people that do not want to let go of the past.”
As soon as those words left her mouth, I knew that it had a double meaning. I averted my eyes from
hers and instead played with my fingers, not wanting that particular sentence to dominate the conversation. Mother Superior apparently knew what I was doing and chose to leave it there, much to my delight.
“Anyway, that's part of the reason,” she said, finally sitting down on her armchair.
Against my will, I looked up, an incredulous look plastered on my face. “If that's the case, then what's the other reason?” I asked, eying her intensively.
Mother Superior did not respond to me immediately but when she did, her words were slow, as if debating to tell me or not the whole story. “Well for one thing, we still don't know why a Knight from Neo Francaesia is doing here. And for another, the King whom we struck a peace treaty with passed away mysteriously three years ago, leaving behind a country that is not fully stabilized and a Successor who is not...right in the head.”
I frowned, still not understanding the entire picture. “So are you telling me that there is some sort of government conspiracy?”
“I'm not entirely sure,” admitted Mother Superior. “But maybe someone in the Neo Francaesia Kingdom may have found the real reason behind the war. I guess you can say we can't blame our Mayor for acting out the way he did.” She then scowled. “But he does want to be acknowledged by our King in one way, shape or form ever since our trade routes has been taken over by bandits.” She sighed, rubbing her eyes. “Remember this Sister Nanoha, when one is pushed too far to the edge, some will choose to fight back while others would jump. In other words, people would do things they normally would not do since they have nothing left to lose,” she finished, somberly.
Silence then engulfed the small room and not taking anymore of the uneasiness that seems to gripping me mercilessly, I asked, ”Then what are we going to do with the Knight?”
Mother Superior gave me a half-amused, half-offensive look and I shrunk before it.
“What else!? We continue to help her,” she replied. “What these Kingdoms do to each other is not our problem. This Knight is a human being before anything else and we must treat her accordingly!”
I opened my mouth to say something but a moment later, the door to Mother Superiors office door violently crashed open.
“Please forgive my sudden rudeness Mother Superior!” gasped Sister Jane, sweat trailing the side of her face. “But we have a situation here!”
Mother Superior stood up quickly and asked urgently,”What seems to be the problem?!”
“There appears to be a large mob outside our Monastery, with the Mayor leading it!”
I paled and I quickly looked at Mother Superior to see what she would do.
Her mouth opened and closed but no words were coming out. Then, she inhaled deeply and after letting the air out, she managed to say,”Let me guess. They want the Knight.”
Sister Jane nodded, grimly.
“So much for 'treating her accordingly'...” I muttered, sadly.
~~~
We followed Sister Jane as she took us to the angry mob that was stationed outside our Monastery. A thousand thoughts went through my mind but not one was decent enough to help me come to face the very people that I was trying to avoid. After climbing the stairs from Mother Superior's office, we came face to face with the giant oak doors that was our only mean of protection from those people clamoring for the death of a lone Knight. I dreaded the confrontation with every fiber of my being.
Mother Superior took the first fateful step, and both Sister Jane and I held our breath. She seem to have whispered a silent prayer and then...she opened the doors. A gush of cool air rushed in, hitting us full force with sharp autumn leaves. The mobs shouting was not a happy one but Mother Superior did not back down. She walked up to them with her head held high, not wavering one bit from their not-so-nice shouts. A short, large man with a round, bright pink face and no neck came up to Mother Superior and looked at her straight in the face. He was holding a Germanian-made rifle firmly in both his pudgy hands and I gulped; this was not going to end well.
“Mr. Mayor, what a pleasant surprise,” said Mother Superior, not bothering to hide her contempt. “What brings you here in this fine day at St. Olivie's Monastery?”
The Mayor spat at the ground and retorted,”Don't act all angelic behind that mask, Magdalene. You know damn well why I'm here!”
I heard some steps behind me and after turning around, I saw that all of the sisters residing in the Monastery came to see what was all the commotion.
“I do not know what you are talking about,” said Mother Superior, still keeping her cool.
“Enough of this!” roared the Mayor, pointing his old rifle at us. “Either you bring the Knight to us or I'll shoot your precious Angels!” We all suddenly took a step back but Mother Superior blocked his view with her body.
“Don't speak in such a blasphemous way!” she growled but I could hear there was a hint of concern in her voice.
“Then. Bring. The. Knight. Out!” hissed the Mayor, still not lowering his rifle. There were shouts of agreement from behind the Mayor and he smirked; I was disgusted by his own illusion of invinsibility.
“What good would come to you or the town if we hand over an injured Knight?” said Mother Superior, her eyes staring at the rifle pointed at her. “Killing her would only bring shame to this town.”
The Mayor laughed, mockingly. “Since this Monastery is independent, you never were a citizen of this town! So why should we tell you?”
For a moment, sadness crept on Mother Superiors face and she said, barely audible,”When will we stop calling ourselves 'you' and 'me' and start calling ourselves 'us'?”
The Mayor ignored her last statement because he yelled,”Now give us the Knight!”
At this point, I had enough. I allowed my legs to step away from the safety of the Monastery and I ran to Mother Superior, purposely putting myself between her and the rifle.
“Nanoha!?” she gasped, completely taken aback.
“Please forgive me, Mother Superior but I couldn't stand idly by while this man disgrace our name!” I said, staring at the Mayor full in the face.
Yes, I was scared. Scared beyond any words but there was something stirring up in me ever since that Knight came and I couldn't contain it any much longer. I needed to step up and I won't let anyone take the Knight away without a fight!
“I know the
real reason you want the Knight,” I said, ignoring the shouts that was coming from both sides. “You just want her so you could look favorably at our King, isn't it!? There are other ways to help the town out of the depression instead of killing a wounded person!”
The Mayor appeared to be having heart attack. His face turned from bright pink to beet red and I could have sworn that his veins would pop from pressure.
“You don't care that she's a Francaesian Knight; you're just stirring up old feelings that has embedded itself deep into our hearts after 20 years of peace! You're using that so you can look like you are worth something when in fact you're not! No wonder this town is so poor; it's inhabitants are nothing more than cowards since they're scared to go back and take what is theirs!” I then looked a the crowd who all seem to have quieted down; some looking guilty while others...not so much. “You all should be ashamed of yourselves!”
“ENOUGH!” roared the Mayor, his face now a shade of purple, a glint of madness appearing in his small, beady eyes. “How dare you say such things?! You will pay along with the Knight!” With that said, he called out scarred, tanned, muscular man who then whispered something under his breath and a large, purple pentagram appeared behind and underneath him. I just stared at him, not knowing what he was doing but judging by the fearful reactions that the people were showing, I concluded that it was not going to turn out good.
“Since this one girl was kind enough to show me some hospitality, I'll give you all death through fire since a bullet is not sufficient enough!” roared the Mayor.
“Nanoha, RUN!” yelled Mother Superior, tugging at my arms. “He hired a Dragon Summoner of all people!”
“What do you mean!?” I yelled back amidst the frantic shouts.
“He must have planned this, that bastard!”
I gasped out loud at Mother Superior's cursed word.
“The Mayor and the town must have pushed themselves into a corner to be attacking us like this with Dragons!” she yelled, still dragging me away from the Summoner but...it was to late.
A loud roar echoed through the darkening evening and a strong hot gale literally through us in the air. We landed some 30 feet away with a painful thud and I noticed that the 50 foot black and purple Dragon... was HUGE!
I know...a bit of an understatement.
“Wha-what is going on?!” I screamed, staring at the dragon's black eyes.
“Eltor,” roared the Dragon Summoner while the Mayor laughed manically behind him. “ATTACK!”
The Dragon's long neck tilted back, and I sat there, waiting to be cooked alive.
The shouts were becoming weaker and the world was spinning. I couldn't breath...I couldn't think...and more importantly, I couldn't move. Was this my fate? To die here?
The Dragon's neck lunged forward and a stream of fire rushed toward me, the air getting warmer as the flames got closer to my paralyzed body. I closed my eyes and sat there, tears silently sliding down my cheeks as I said one last prayer.
At least I won't have to live in this cruel world anymore. Mama...Papa...Big brother...Big Sister...I'll be with you guys shortly...
But...the pain never came.
With my eyes still closed, a sweet and cinnamon aroma filled my nostrils and warm air gushed around me but no such burning pain ever engulfed me as I had previously prepared for. I opened one of my eyes and gasped, recoiling back in shock.
There
she stood, a round, yellow pentagram hovering in from her, blocking the flame attack without so much as breaking a sweat. After a minute passed, the Dragon had enough and stopped it's relentless attack all together. With the Dragon regaining back some energy, the blonds shield disappeared into thin air.
There was silence all around the clearing; not a single noise could be heard. Then, the blond looked at the Mayor and said in a furious voice,”You should have used that money to help the town instead of wasting it on a Summoner.” The women paused for a moment and then she looked down on the Mayor who cowered at her fierce glare. “That money would have been sufficient enough to help open a few schools for children. And instead, what do you do? Blame a few Nuns so you can take the easy way out. Your lack of leadership makes me sick!”
“H-how dare you say that!” squeaked the Mayor, pointing a shaky, think finger at the women. “You're a spy!”
“And you know that how?” said the women, a bit of animosity creeping in. “My uniform is not enough to warrant a 'spy' label.”
The Mayor licked his lips and he turned abruptly around to the people behind him and screamed,”G-get her before she doom us all!”
“I guess they really have nothing left to lose,” muttered the women bitterly and a sword slowly materialize in the air from the palm of her glowing hand. It's hilt had a gleaming black surface encrusted on both sides with a small golden triangle that shown brightly. The women held the sword firmly in both hands and brought herself in a fighting stance, her opened, black shirt blowing behind her, revealing the damp bandages covered with blood underneath.
I had to stop her...them...I have to stop them all!
In the far distance, I could hear Mother Superior telling everyone to stop but to no avail. A few of the towns people had swords and were the first to clash against the women who clearly had training in the Sword-Arts. In a flash, one by one fell to their demise and the women showed no remorse, her burgundy eyes filled with unexplainable darkness. A few shots were heard but the blonds shield appeared again and stopped the bullets from hitting her. Their attempts to hit her were futile and the townspeople knew it too. A few had dropped their rifles or swords and fled, leaving behind their fallen comrades.
“Where are you all going,” roared the Mayor, trying to stop a few from running away. “Stop! Stop fleeing! Capturing this Knight could be our ticket out of bankruptcy!” When no one listened, he turned to the Summoner and screamed,”Kill her!”
The Summoner shrugged and he nodded to his Dragon who began to get ready for round two.
Golden locks blowing gently behind her, the women placed her sword on her right shoulder and said in a icy tone,”I swear to you that I will cut your Dragon's head off without thinking twice.”
Ignoring her warning, the Summoner yelled, ”ATTACK!”
The Dragon lunged forward like before but...
...his head slid silently off to the ground, purple blood gushing out seconds later from it's exposed neck. By the look of both the Summoner and the Dragons eyes, they had not expected that.
“Wh-when did she strike!?” yelled the Summoner, looking at his fallen Dragon with terror in his eyes. “I didn't even see her move!”
The Mayor could not believe in what he was seeing. He fell on his bottom and whispered,”She c-can't be human!”
I tried to open my mouth but a loud whistle was heard and I saw that the town's militia finally arrived; they must have ignored the fleeing people or they were just plain stupid. Either way, they came to their death. I tried to warn them, to tell them to run away but no words would come out and with my knees completely numbed, I couldn't move to stop the women who clearly appears to be lost in her own emotions.
“Halt and surrender!” yelled the leader with the latest rifle. “Or we will not hesitate to shoot!”
The women slowly turned to the men and they recoiled back in fear after seeing her eyes.
“And why should I listen to group of men who can't get their trade routes back from mere bandits but have the balls to attack a Monastery full of Nuns and a injured person?” she spat, walking to the men very slowly. The blade of her sword suddenly turned bright yellow and I gasped, trying with all my might to break free from the fear that has gripped me.
I have to stop her and quick. I slowly began to stand up and was grateful when I was ignored.
“W-will shoot!” squeaked the leader, inching away from the advancing women. “Stay b-back-”
Without giving out the orders, shots rang out and they zoomed straight to the women who blocked the incoming bullets with ease, her shield up once again. Then, she smirked and I knew what she was thinking so without hesitating, I screamed,”STOOOOOOOOOOOP!”
Everyone did.
Breathing heavily and clutching my pounding chest with tears hitting my trembling hands, I said weakly,”Please, stop this. Please....”
The blond women looked at me with those cold burgundy eyes and for a moment I thought that I saw helplessness in them but I must have imagined it because it was soon replaced with a non-readable expression. The women then sighed and while the sword disappeared right through her right hand, said,”I guess it can't be helped.”
I sighed out in relief but gave a yelp when the blond suddenly appeared before me without warning.
“So I'll guess I'll take you instead in exchange for these scums lives.”
Wait, huh?
I didn't react on time and I felt as if I was being bound by invincible ropes. I lost my balance and I fell face first to the floor, still not registering what had happened.
“What are you doing with Nanoha?!” yelled Mother Superior, running towards us.
My captor just chuckled and placed me on her shoulder. “Trust me old lady, it's for the best.”
And just like that, I was taken from my home, the place I moved to two years ago. This entire situation was funny...just last night I had saved this unknown person from the clutches of death and even gave her my blood. I was so worried about her that I was willing to give my life to saves hers without really knowing why. And what do I get in return? A field full of people massacred and me being kidnapped.
Figures...
I guess I really am bad luck after all...
