I have to third this.
Uchiyama's acting fits better with Mahiro's soemwhat brattish behavior.
And Toyonaga has done better with the smooth exterior but broken interior type like Yoshino.

But still, the casting is still above my expecation.

I disagree with you. The show had moments of really well done action in almost all episodes, but the drama is the main focus in the second half of the series, so I understand if people got a little bit disappointed. The drama in Canaan is terrible but the action is godly.

I think Masahiro Ando and his team are talented enough for a Gunsmith Cats tv show. I've been dreaming about it for a looooooong time.

I love Ando, and I think he's a fantastic director of both drama and action. The problem with Canaan is that the story and general tone of the series fell off the cliff so quickly after the first 3 episodes that it was beyond his ability to really salvage much from the series. The entire series has really nice action sequences, but I honestly felt that once it started getting really stupid, the scenario no longer supported what Ando was best at - keeping the audience grounded and engaged at the events on screen. By making a mockery out of pretty much all the characters other than Canaan and Alphard, I felt that I just couldn't take most of the seriously and I couldn't enjoy the action even when they were well composed. The only action scene I found memorable in the second half was the bathroom fight, which had REALLY good camera work and great scene editing. Aside from that I found most of it disappointing, especially the climax. :/

I really hope Zetsuen is a true return to form for Ando doing an action series. He already proved with Hanasaku Iroha that he can manage a good dramatic series without action, and his ability as a director who really understands and excels at traditional film language helped a lot to give the series an extra level of polish in terms of direction and flow. He originally joined up with PA Works after Stranger because he wanted a different type of challenge, and now that he has satisfied himself with that, I hope he's ready to return to the type of anime which put got him so much acclaim to begin with.

Here we go, finally a larger clean visual.

Spoiler:

The news article itself also confirms that Zetsuen will air on MBS' Animeism slot, so yeah, looks like it's replacing E7AO.

Yes, yes it is. Would be great if they used it as the music for the OP...

Glad we didn't have to wait until Chara Hobby for a PV, because I definitely like what I'm seeing here. I didn't find the character design that appealing on the first key visual (which was sort of surprising coming from Saitou Tsunenori), but it looks much, much better in the video and especially on this new key visual which is the bomb. I'm also not all that skeptical towards the manga anymore after purchasing volume 4... could this be hype?!

Oh yeah, and my brain seriously can't process that the lines in the PV were spoken by Yoshino and not Mahiro. This should prove to be interesting!

Hahaha, I came in just to say this. I really wished they had put in a line or two of Yoshino speaking so we'd get an idea of how Toyonaga handled the role.

The character page is updated now: http://www.zetsuen.net/character.html

I really like the designs here. The clothing is detailed, and the coloring is great.

Heard Uchiyama's voice is PV2..... It is much deeper than I thought. Make me wonder why he got assigned to Yoshino again.

Same....I'll forever think that is Mahiro rather than Yoshino...

Also...Aika with brown hair.....I always thought her hair was closer to platinum blonde...I love those purple eyes though.

CharaHobby stage event news update:

- Miyuki Sawashiro is playing Hakaze
- More cast announcements: Rikiya Koyama, Nana Mizuki, Hirofumi Nojima, Junichi Suwabe, Hiroyuki Yoshino
- Nothing's Carved In Stone is performing the OP theme
- Kana Hanazawa is performing the ED theme

There is no confirmation that Hanazawa is also playing Aika, but I think that's a strong possibility depending on what they want to do with the ED...
