So they are going with the same arrangement as season 1, which is a shame, because I hoped the other girls would get a turn at being in the spotlight (can't be helped I guess, Yui is the main lead and Moi is the most popular, so it goes)

I know but I hoped that the rest of the cast might have had a taken a turn each for the OP and ED *just to clarify I'm not complaining that they haven't changed the arrangement, just hoped that they went with a different pattern.*

Take a traditional rock bank or four or five. They might all be able to sing and write, bur one or two are better at it than the others. The remaining two or three are specialistd with their instruments. Sometimes they will write a song an dsing, but that task generally falls tot he first one or two.
Take the Beatles as an example. Most songs are written and sung by John and Paul. Most albums have one song by George on it, and every once in a while they will have a song written by Ringo. George is lead guitar and an expert at that instrament. Ringo is a drummer. Paul and John would alternate instraments from guitar to piano and Paul would do bass (lefty bass). With Azusa added K-On is less like the Beatles than they were at the start...or maybe they are more like the Beatles with a deticated pianist. Thus Yui = John, Mio = Paul, Azusa = George, Ritsu = Ringo...Mugi = Paul or John on piano.

And really swap Toyosaki for Kotobuki. I reckon she has the most annoying singing voice. It's not cute, it's horribly whiny. |

And I like Toyosaki on main vocals, but to each his own I guess... |

Am I the only one who thinks some of the songs actually sound better without the vocals on the top?
Take away the fluffy lyrics and some of the songs quite happily would pass in the UK as rock/pop-rock tracks, but add the lyrics and they fall back into j-pop because of how the sound changes. 'FuwaFuwa Time' and 'Fudepen, Ballpen' both fall under this umbrella before even mentioning 'Dont say lazy', its the lyrics than turn them back firmly into poppy tracks, remove those as they're passable rock/pop-rock tracks. I mean take for example the solo in fuwa fuwa time at about 2:15, followed by the prominent bass. That wouldnt make it into a UK pop album unless it was released as a rock track from a famous pop artist. I have to give some respect to the Japanese for thier willingness to embrace the guitar...when if anything the UK which USED to embrace it has gone backwards /facepalm. I have some serious respect for some of the bass covers I've seen of the song too, (hhhi64), because from a (admittedly relatively low level) players' perspective, I know what they're doing takes one hell of a lot of practice and skill, they make look it effortless, there's a lot of practice that goes into getting that fluent with all the slides and rapid long stride fret switching across multiple strings (harder than it looks when you consider how much thicker a bass string is compared to a guitar string and the length of the fretboard etc)! If skill implants ever come along ala the matrix, I think I'll be taking the music instrument courses before kung-fu...

In other music news, the first Radion CD is out, and on it is one bonus track I've been waiting for - the group version of "Let's Go". While the solos on the character CDs were nice, the fact that they were solos at all meant that I saw it more as a group song. And so, just before the advent of the second season, here it is.

Hey, guys.
I tried my very best to attempt and translate Jaja Uma Way To Go, but I'm sure it failed epicly because I 1) Lack Kanji skillz 2) Lack basic Japanese vocab skillz 3) Lack almost everything you need to translate a song So, this probably isn't very accurate at all Spoiler for Jaja Uma Way To Go! somewhat-not really English..:

Never hurts to give it a shot
On the singing: A lot of westerners find the higher pitches of some japanese females hard to take (or singers from Vietnam, Cambodia, etc). I've gotten used to it over the years so I don't flinch anymore... but voices in a lower range or throatier still tend to get extra marks from me (like Mio's seiyuu or Love Hina: Motoko's seiyuu). Even my wife (who *is* Japanese) tends to call some of the anime music "chipmunk music" (ref: Alvin and the Chipmunks), despite her own sons looking oddly at her and telling her *she* sounds like that.

I freaking LOVE the new OP. To me, the faster and heavier, the better and this song fits right in my alley.
The ED is nice, but nothing truly special for me. Will probably have to grow on me like the first ED did. |
