Ib

Excerpt from the fan site:
Quote:
Ib (pronounced "Eeb," similar to “Eve”) is a freeware horror adventure game by kouri made in RPG Maker 2000.

A young girl named Ib visits an art gallery with her parents.
While observing the many exhibits, she suddenly realizes she is alone.
And in her search for others, she finds things awry in the gallery...

The game is focused on exploration and puzzle-solving.
There are no battles, and it does not demand quick reflexes.
It's designed to be accessible to all kinds of players, so enjoy.
You can download the game for free here.

It's light game for those who want to experience a simple puzzle solving game mixed with some horror elements into it. This adventure game lasted me about 3-4 hours the first time, but it worth every second of it.

Probably the most amazing thing about this game was how much I grew so attached to each of the three characters within that short amount of time.

Apparently the game was really well received in Japan and over several videos on NicoNico Douga and Youtube were dedicated to some PV to help bring more attention to the game.

Here are some of my favorite videos:

Loved this game... It's pretty good for a simple game.
Playing the first time is definitely and unforgottable experience.
I still need to get all the ending though.

Triggering the flags for the endings can be quite confusing as you can easily miss them. The easiest way that I found is trying to focus on the responses you give to each character. Which ending are you trying to aim for?

Well none in particular, but I'm pretty sure I need to get really interested in Gary to get one of the best endings.
And all left would be Mary's.

There are certain points in the game where you can actually repeatedly chat with either Gary or Mary in order to raise their affinity with you. There are also some paintings that you can examine which Gary makes a comment about, especially about one book in particular that Ib was reading.

Ahyeah, that's one of the catches. I'll lookout for them...
Then yeah, the game's replay has pretty low value lol

True, although on the other hand you can easily beat the game in under and hour once you solved the puzzles. There are only a few key routes that you can miss depending on one of the challenges, which has a time limit. Other than that the only value in replaying Ib is trying to reach for the different endings.

Played, and beated this 1-2 months ago Definitely a good ride. But yes, the endings are probably the reason you'll replay Ib.

I didn't beat it until just a few days ago. It was mostly a game that was under the radar and I wouldn't have known it existed until I saw some Let's Play youtube videos by accident. Glad I didn't pass up the chance to try this out, wasn't disappointed in the least.

Finished the game and... I'm fairly impressed. It does creepy better than many better budget games, and with more likeable characters to boot. Got the best ending on my second attempt, and it was worth replaying it twice

I'm quite surprised at the relative popularity of this game though. Asides from the videos already linked above, a simple Booru search shows lots of incredibly high quality fanart for this game, including anime-style pics and even art by noteworthy artists like Rapattu and PLUM.

Here's some examples:

These kind of games get more popular as soon a translation comes out.
Pretty much like Yume Nikki.

Good job making this thread! I was contemplating starting one. I definitely recommend anyone to at least try this game, it's pretty easy too.

I played this game a while back and I also found myself really attached to the characters. Despite how short it was, I found myself caring so easily for all of them.
Spoiler for Ib:

As for favourite scenes...

Also, thanks for that last link, didn't see that before.

I must thank for this thread for informing me for this game.
while I didn't play the game (are bad with this kind of game, especially when it is a horror game) I watched a play through on nico douga.

I must say Gary is probably the coolest okama character I have encountered.
I must say I got a small shock when he started to speak with the words "atashi" and "kashira" but as it progressed I more and more got used to it.
