As there's no Kanon video thread, so I'll have to post here instead.

Imagine Key re-releasing the game but using Kyo-Ani's graphics. (Note Yuuichi has now changed his name to Kyon. And one of his "wrong" names for Nayuki is "Haruhi". )

Post Response to Kanon Uniform

For me, I was present on that day, and took those pictures myself with my own camera. Anyway, they showed the designs on the boards before the catwalk, and when I saw this particular one, I recognized the Kanon inspiration immediately....but the design sketch gave me the impression that the girl was wearing a kind of vest modelled after the Kanon short cape, rather than the cape itself. Because of this, I figured it was original enough to be impressive, which was why this design was one of my early favourites.

But then during the catwalk, when it turned out the girl was wearing a bolero that looked like an almost-exact replica of the cape itself, I was like, "Ooooooooh no no no no......what the heck?!?!?!? Rip-off, man! You're asking for a disqualification, dude!"

Well, no disqualification, and he still got a respectable second place anyway, even if it was from a design I deemed too unoriginal to deserve it. Anyway, I'll list out some of the differences I can spot from Kanon's uniform and his design.

Kanon's main uniform consisted of a collared, long-sleeved dress which buttons down the middle; while it may not be apparent from the catwalk shots, the full design sketch actually reveals that what the model was wearing underneath that cape was actually a cotton tank top, and a seperate skirt. Here's the page to see the full sketch:

Entry 30 is the one you want, folks.

In any case, while the uniform does look snazzy enough, my gut feeling is that it's a little too fussy for the average Singaporean schoolgirl's liking. So not much hope of seeing anything like that on the Singapore streets anytime soon.

I just happened to pass by and saw this particular post.

Honestly, I'm really quite pissed to see Kanon's uniform design being utilised as an 'original' design and winning 2nd place. A sure indication that the judges need to watch more anime.

From the sketch, it appeared that the short cape was separated into 3 different sections (2 sleeves and one to cover the chest region). The ribbon supporting the cape is tied in the centre of the chest, unlike the Kanon's uniform that is situated near the neck. Those are the obvious differences from Kanon's uniform, which deserves some originality points.

Somehow, the design of the uniform that the model is wearing does not match that of the entry design. But, it does resemble that of Kanon uniform in the sense that the ribbon is tied at the neck region, and the bolero spans across the upper half of the body. Both of those features match that of a Kanon uniform.

What I want to know is whether the judges found the original design a bit too revealing, or whether the designer himself lacked time to modify these features of the uniform. I hope it isn't the latter option. (Or maybe that's why he only got runner up.)

However, I don't think he deserves a straight disqualification as the original design differs from the Kanon uniform design. But he should get hounded by Kanon fans since the idea originated from Kanon.

Anyway, on the account of fuss-iness of Singaporean girls, I very much agree to that statement. I happen to be a Singaporean too by the way and that uniform is no way appropriate for our climate. 2 layers of outer clothing will most probably cause a heat stroke, unless the entire school is air-conditioned throughout.

Off topic: The other designs look really weird, especially the right-most guy's version of the uniform (in picture 3). Oh, and I like the first photo with the motion blur in the background. Really nicely done, if you took it with manual settings.

That's actually a weird raccoon doll. It's a reference to Yuuchi's earlier statement in episode 16. "Don't tell me you're a fox or a raccoon or something..."

It's actually a very little thing; I just mentioned that as a side-comment of sorts.

Sorry if that sounded too picky.

It's a very good idea by the way.

And don't forget that it'll soon be Shiori-chan's birthday a few days later (Feb 1st). One wonders how much coincidence there is in Kyo-Ani for arranging the last episode of Shiori's story to air on her birthday?
