She's described as a 'Unison Device' and the terminology is never explicitly explained.
By comparison, Bardiche and Raising Heart are 'intelligent devices' Laevateinn and Graf Eisen are 'armed devices' and TSAB staves are 'storage devices.' Even though Bardiche is made for close combat and has a Velkan cartridge system it's still not called an armed device, so I wonder if there's a remaining difference in their construction or nature, or if it's just a cultural thing. The obvious explanation for 'Unison Device' would be that the corrupted Book of Darkness and Hayate's Reinforce (small) both combine with the user and alter their body as their method for enabling their powers. It isn't clear what advantages or disadvantages, if any, this presents compared to the different weapon formats.

You can get a translation for the chant to Starlight Breaker in ep 10 of Ace's, since Reinforce speaks the lines - she copied it off Nanoha from ep 2. Sounds cooler in Japanese though, if you ask me. |

wuts a TSAB staff >_< so basically a unison device is something like a tome that contains loads of spells (spellbook) and it can somehow like fuse with the master/mistress to become more powerful? kinda confused here >_<

Those images have already been posted in the manga thread. Eg:
http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost...1&postcount=38 (except, with the dialogue) What is shown is a flashback, incidentally. |

It'd be a lot easier if they'd ever given Chrono a rank, since he had a clear position...
So the pattern for the Asura is a Captain with an operations staff and a Head Enforcer with a detachment of marines, who were also used for investigative legwork during A's. A's-to-StrikerS makes it sound like the investigative branch is distinct from the marines, so either the enforcers specialize between combat and investigative duty but belong to the same units, or the Asura only had marines and was forced to make-do with them. Obviously Graham is an Admiral of the Fleet and Lindy is a Captain (in the first season). I'd guess that Chrono is a Commander, Amy is a Lieutenant-Commander, and Alex is either a Lieutenant or Sub-Lieutenant. Because there appears to be no regular army and their marines operate in small detachments on individual ships, I think it's likely that the Enforcers don't have an extensive rank system. A ship's detachment leader is a naval Commander or Lieutenant-Commander, and squad leaders equivalent to Lieutenant or Sub-Lieutenant. The rest would just be 'Enforcers,' perhaps with some code for specialization. I went with British naval ranks since Graham is English, but obviously the TSAB predates him so it's just a stylistic choice...

Well, Chrono was promoted to a pretty obvious position by the end of A's, and I suppose Amy's rank also rose accordingly although her job is the same apparently. I can't remember if they specifically called him with a rank.
