yeah, I was wondering about nekomimimode versus actual hybrids.

Why is the ORIGINAL CAT GIRL, Neko-musume from Gegege no Kitaro not listed yet?

C'mon, she's the mother of all Cat-girls that came after her!

I suspect that the reason for that is English speaking audiences have never had a good look at Gegege no Kitaro. Heck, even the recent series only had the first episode fansubbed! 'Tis a shame. Neko-musume is a fun girl.

My own first exposure to cat girls was Nuku Nuku like most westerners. I found it interesting that she was actually a cat who was turned into a girl. Unfortunately her origins as a cat were pretty much irrelevant except when she saw a mouse and broke character.

Of course most cat girls these days are really just girls with cat ears (and possibly a tail) who are otherwise completely human in personality and outlook. I prefer for cat girls to be psychologically cat like Neko-musume was. At least Nuku Nuku was slightly influenced by her former life as a feline.

I suppose my favorite cat girl is now Taruto (from Magical Nyan Nyan Taruto). She is most definitely a cat who just has the form of a girl and she is the most adorable kitten I know.

For a change of pace, I give you a puppy-girl, O-Nui in Oh! Edo Rocket. Her back story appears in ep. 12. Like Nuku Nuku she also appears to be a girl who was originally a dog and occasionally behaves as such (fetching, etc.).

Alas, catgirls left us due to real life pressures. At the time he was hopeful he could return once his life gave him the chance. I still hope for his return.

Good point. Until today I was under the impression that he was a werewolf, but a quick googling reveals the mangaka has said that he is actually a cat-boy. I just learned something.

I haven't seen Hellsing, but Schrödinger's cat is a very famous kitty from quantum theory. Not surprisingly it also makes an appearance in Noein.

I don't think that anyone has mentioned my favorite catgirl or tiger girl, Aisha Clanclan from outlaw star. Hot body and an outstanding fighter who also displays maternal instincts. With all the advances in science it would not be suprising if they don't have an anime or manga about unscrupulous scientest creating animal girls for a profit. There was one in the past where a catgirl who was more cat than girl was created during illegal genetic manipulation experiments, but I can't remember the name now.
