No, I mean when you don't know the revision it changed, but you know a revision from when it worked and one where it didn't anymore, a tool like Git allows you to 'bisect' the history between both by doing a binary search of the offending commit. I was asking whether SVN supported anything similar (but I guess it doesn't).

I hate to be a bother, but could you guys help me a compile a more complete list of known libass quirks and bugs?
I plan to ask the mplayer devs and mailing list readers to investigate. Documented bugs are listed on the first post of the topic and on the bug report linked below. http://bugzilla.mplayerhq.hu/show_bug.cgi?id=1394

How bout they fix the bug when you have correct-pts enabled you can't play your dvds properly. My recently compiled mplayer isn't even a week old. Oh and their new internal dvd menu support didn't really work like I thought it would (as in it doesn't) Those are my biggest gripes with mplayer. I barely have issues with subtitles it's a rare occasion that a problem does occur.

While subbers could usually care less about the convertibility of their releases, questions about converting from one format to another show up in Tech Support all the time. If mencoder would support -ass, it would help resolve some conversion issues.

There's a late 2008 patch for ass support in mencoder.
Mencoder with ass and embedded fonts It patches cleanly with even the newest revisions. Edit: The patch doesn't seem to be too VFR friendly.

I nearly **** bricks when I read this.
http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/...ry/060064.html Diego is the head mplayer dev and when calls for a release, he means it. So, far fixes for libass include fixes to the max_glyphs call. Minor, but I know that at the very least, koda would appreciate it. As for having vsfilter 2.39e tags incorporated into mplayer, I'm working on it and lobbying hard. If you want it in the next release, you guys will have to lobby hard on the mailing list (primarily mplayer-users or mplayer-dev if you have coding suggestions) and IRC (irc://irc.freenode.net/mplayer).

This morning in #aegisub, we had someone come in to look at all the errors in libass. Plorkyeran and I went over a few and he since produced this I've just finished building and a LOT of the bugs I had with libass seem to be fixed, such as blur, edge strength, and repeated \pos tags. If anyone else wants to give it a go and throw in some feedback that'd really help.

You guys truly are awesome and overcame the largest obstacle to open-source development: Coordination.
If these patches are accepted (hopefully they will, the deadline hasn't passed yet), MPlayer benefiting will only be the tip of the iceberg. The gstreamer team just finished committing their libass implementation yesterday and so far, it is looking good and these patches will only help in the long run. As for VLC, since their subtitle renderer also relies on libass, the same applies.

Has the max glyphs patch been committed to the aegisub svn? I know it's in greg's megapatch.

thank you for pointing out this glaring security hole to the aegisub team
no wait, you didn't point it out at all, you just pushed code that none of the maintainers had approved or even tested using what is best classified as an exploit, without telling anyone, you just happened to mention it in passing in one of your "look at me, I'm an important person on the internet" posts on a public forum note to self: never give starks any sort of privileged access to anything whatsoever, no matter how trivial

1st: Diego isn't mplayer's head developer, he maintains build system and documentation. MPlayer is currently without leadership.
2nd: libass' maintainer is Evgeniy Stepanov; zgreg is a random guy that appeared out of nowhere wanting to fix it
