And I already thought this would never happen. (this = Skip Beat Anime)

I usually don't like to watch Animes for Manga I already know (because they tend to be worse), but somehow I have really high expectations for the Skip Beat Anime. It could be so much fun.
Seeing Kyoku running and jumping around animated. Yeah! All in bright pink! (It better be very very bright pink.)

And Ren really needs a great manly voice. Har.

But somehow I'd rather have a nice middle-lengthed series for Skip Beat with a good "open end" than some everlasting 70+ episode series, because I probably won't watch that.
If there's nothing special in comparism to the Manga and they just follow the story word by word, I'd rather reread the Manga anyway.

For me personally, I'd probably find the anime most enjoyable if they did as exact a rendition as possible, taking into account the different mediums. For example, I've mostly been enjoying the Soul Eater anime a lot, and (most of the time) it is very accurate.

I'd expect Skip Beat to be harder to convert though, since there's a lot of little details that work well in manga, but not so well in anime (or at least, it's harder to make them work well). Here's hoping the animators are up to the task - it's far from a typical story, or characters.

For me, the most important thing is for the characters to feel the same - sometimes adding or removing scenes makes little meaningful difference but if you remove important scenes (or parts of such scenes) that help define the characters, then you can get a character which feels "wrong" within the context of the story.

For example, I wouldn't be surprised if the anime has a longer or additional scene with Ren in episode 1, but as long as he's in-character (relative to what we would expect in the manga) then that's fine with me. But if they did almost the exact same scene as in the manga but change his lines (in non trivial ways) or his expressions then that can give a rather different impression of his character. Sometimes there can be exceptions - such as when the original author's ideas/plans change, in which case it can be better to "fix" that in advance, but I don't see much scope for that in Skip Beat (maybe tweak Yashiro in some early scenes to be closer to how he is for most of the manga).

I heard that the Skip Beat manga is to be animated. I will probably check it out, since I'm a fan of the manga, I'm just wondering who will voice who xD

Here's the first look at the character designs. They look really faithful in design to the manga IMHO.

Spoiler for SB Character Designs:

Thanks goes to the SB Yahoo group for the scans

Sailor Moon for one (200 eps) and Kodomo no Omocha [Kodocha] is another (10 volumes, 103 eps) but most of famous Shojo sadaption are 40-75 episodes but I doubt Skip Beat would go over the usual 24-26:

Other notable Shojo:

Mamalade Boy, 8 volumes, 76 eps
Nana, 19+ volumes, 47 eps with possible 2nd Season
Fushigi Yugi, 18 volumes, 65 eps (plus OVAs)
Glass Mask, 42 volumes, 77 eps (2 series + OVA)
Cardcaptor Sakura, 12 volumes, 70eps
Magic Knight Rayearth, 6 volumes, 52eps
Berusaiyu no Bara (The Rose of Versailles), 10 volumes, 41 eps
Akachan to Boku, 18 volume, 35eps
Hana Yori Dango, 36 volumes, 51 eps
Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne, 7volumes, 44 eps
Revolutionary Girl Utena, 5 volumes, 39 eps.
Tsubasa Chronicle, 24+ volumes, 55 eps (+ OVA)

Note that most of series above ended over 5 years ago.

Recent popular Shojo manga has not been able to break the usual 24-26 episodes with the exception of Nana and Tsubasa.

Other recent notable Shojo adaption,

Ouran High School Host Club, 12+ volumes, 26 eps
Ultra Maniac, 5 volumes, 27 eps (+ OVA)
Kareshi Kanojo no Jijō [KareKano], 21 volumes, 26 eps [although the anime adaption was way back in 98-99, the series only ended in 2005]
Gakuen Alice, 17+ volumes, 26 episodes
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge [The Wallflower], 20+ volumes, 25 eps
Fruits Basket, 23 volumes, 26 eps
Lovely Complex, 17 volumes, 24 eps

Even Nodame Cantabile (20+ vol.) only have 24 episode and the season 2 is sloted for 13 eps while XXXholic (13+ vol.) is the same, while Hana-Kimi (23 vol.) doesn't even have anime adaption yet (though there is a drama adaption last year.)

So while I like this manga a lot and as good as it is, I doubt the anime will be more than 26 episodes since it was not any more popular than any of the recent series above.

Are the seiyus already known? Ren would need a seyiuu like Ryotaro Okiayu or Kazuhiko Inoue to bring the manliness out! *drools*

I am really trying to keep my hopes very low for this show. I want it to be good, no actually I want it to be great, but I don't want to be disappointed by it not living up to the manga. I can't imagine the animators being able to bring it to life in a way that doesn't disappoint. I hope they do, but doubt they will... If this makes any sense.

TBH I'm more worried about who's going to be Kyoko's VA than the animation.. since she will be quite a role to pull off well...

Yeah, won't be easy at all (unless they change Kyouko's character in non-trivial ways... ugh)

I don't think the seiyuu (Miki Nagasawa) who played Kyouko in the drama CD did a particularly good job.

Kanae's roll will also be tricky to play I think, since she does some quite expressive acting at times.

I think it's a good bet that Banjo Ginga will play Lory (like he did in the drama CD) since Nakamura-sensei imagined him doing the role from the very start of the manga

I'd imagine casting has only recently started...

At a little bonus to whet the appetite, I uploaded this:
Spoiler for Manga chapter 93 colour cover:

Note - this is a minor spoiler if you haven't see any of the series, though it doesn't depict something that actually happens in the story - it was something the author drew as a result of a reader competition. If you've read most of the translated volumes, opening this shouldn't cause problems except potential blood loss

Awesome image
