There are very serious errors in that article. Author Eric Jou demonstrated blatant disregard for accuracy by twisting the story to serve his agenda.

Quote:
According to his father, Xiao Feng had terrible grades in school because of his gaming habit; he couldn't even land a job. He, however, says he simply couldn't find any work that he liked. Feng was annoyed that his son couldn't even tough it out for three months at a software development company.
Quote:

Twenty-three-year-old Feng had been playing simple Web-based games since junior high school. From high school, he and his classmates started playing online games together. Feng proved talented, and quickly became the top player among his friends.

Because his grades had always been not bad, and also because he was playing during his spare time, Feng's parents did not mind his gaming habit. However, due to his recent problems at work, Feng buried himself at home playing games. Little did he realise that this would cause his father to "worry excessively". Thinking that his son had become addicted to games, the elder Feng actually hired hitmen to "tackle" his son online, effectively turning Feng into a "gaming rookie" once more.

The elder Feng said: "I thought by doing this, my son may lose interest in games, and therefore turn his focus back to looking for a job."

Upon hearing his father's words, Feng shut down his computer. Since then, he had submitted quite a few resumes and had been interviewed by quite a number of companies. Before his gaming streak, Feng had worked in a software company for about three months. But he disliked the job. He said seriously: "It wasn't what I wanted to do, and it didn't offer me a great deal of career prospects."

"其实,遇上这事,只是觉得奇怪,也没想到玩了几天游戏,竟让老爸误会了。工作,我是不想将就,想多给自己 一点时间,找一个适合自己的。游戏真的是可玩可不玩。"听小冯这么说,冯先生才放下心来。

"Actually, to become a target of online hitmen felt a bit strange. I didn't expect that playing online games for a few days would cause my father to misunderstand me. When it comes to my career, I don't want to just make do. I want to give myself a bit more time, to find a job that suits me. I can really stop gaming at any time," said Feng. His father is relieved to hear this.

I think Reuters is 10-15 years late with this article. The last time I read about this was from an encyclopedia in the late 1990s.

Sundan was the single largest exporter worldwide, but they now only account for much less than what they did in the 1970s.

That would fit the TV analogy "if you haven't see this before, than it is new to you"! they do during reruns.

And that's why Kotaku is not only worthless as a news source but actually damaging to use as a news source. Its the anime/pop version of "World Weekly News" as steered by the Bat Boy.

Not serious, misleading, disinformation, etc.

Cat caught sneaking saw, phone into Brazil prison:

"A cat carrying a saw and a mobile phone was "detained" as it entered a prison
gate in northeast Brazil, Brazilian media reported on Saturday.

Prison guards were surprised when they saw a white cat crossing the main gate
of the prison, its body wrapped with tape. A closer look showed the feline also
carried drills, an earphone, a memory card, batteries and a phone charger."

At least on Kotaku you aren't bombarded with pseudo-porn/hentai all along the side of the screen.

Whatever. Kotaku and Shitkaku are sensationalist bigoted sites that do nothing except trying to attract web traffic for advertising moolah by putting out "Bizarre Japan" and "Freakish China" articles for the gullible.

I avoid them like the plague.

That's still a pretty bizarre story.

I didn't think Kotaku was that bad, but Sankaku on the other hand... I used to go on there until I realized how biased and yes, sensationalist it was. But, what the heck, it's an otaku's haven, so people would go there just for "Japan" or the boobs... and butts.... and more.
