A happy ending for both Victorique and Kazuya! I was really afraid that Kazuya would died and leave Victorique all alone.. Fortunately it didn't happen though the ending makes Kazuya seems like a lolicon since Victorique didn't grow at all..

The last episode was great but it really is a bit of a piss take that the genuine potential of this show was only ever fully realised in the last two episodes. If they got rid of one of the more pointless mystery cases at the start and gave more episodes to this bit, I could've liked it a lot more. They gave such little time to Kujo even though this would've been a major moment of character development for him (something he sorely needed).

This show had it's flaws but I want to remember it's good sides more than it's bad sides. I'll be generous and give it an 8/10 (though it's a very low 8 and I might change it to 7 on one of my moodier days)

Yay happy end! Lol to the end Grevil couldn't talk to her directly, glad he at least let her get away. So were they both named Brian? Nice to see their past as well. I was surprised as well with Vicorique's hair color change, thought it was just dye though to hep hide her. Nice that they showed everyone else after the war. Lol at Avril getting the letter back. The end was beautiful.

Actually I think her hair colour changed as a way for her to survive (and after everything she's experienced) naturally after Brain's death.

I wont post my final impressions of the show just yet, but after watching the final episode, just posting on twitter isn't enough.

I'm a bit hot headed after the finale episode, so it's a bit long

I wont mince words, the finale wasn't simply rushed, but largely underwhelming. Many of the suffering, conflicts and events the characters undergo are glossed over, and aside from Kujo and Victorique, I'm hard pressed to find any one in the show who had a proper resolution in this story. Sure, their dreams came true and many have reached the logical conclusion of their character arc, such as Avril becoming an explorer like her grandfather, Grevil letting Victorique go in a similar fashion to the first episode and then letting his hair do get back to normal (T_T), Cecile opening the school again with Sochie, and whats-his-name (the guy from the second mystery) working in the city, things moving back from the Occult control to the Science side (a bit underdeveloped but then again this entire plot point was under utilized and poorly explored) and Brain death with him realizing that he can't kill Victorique (and the other Brain () dying with Cordelia) etc. But a lot of it seems like it was tacked on, and some are simply a foot note added in. Nothing was fleshed out in regards to them, and certainly not for the war.

To get to the ... let's call it the war portion of the episode. To get to it would imply that there was a part of the episode devoted to the conflict that riped the leads from each other. What we had was nothing more than minor snippets of some parts of it. Certainly, we saw that Kujo was in battle, we got the impression that he was suffering, but we don't get to expand on that. That scene with him having his legs torn off? That was gripping, that could be used as a cliff hanger, it could've been engaging, hell it would've been interesting to see how he develops his ideology about his new found desire to fight this war, see what about his family, his father taking in that his son is going to fight, his brothers and sisters and mother ... but that isn't mentioned, but glossed over.

That's the issue with how they decided to alter history at the last minute in this show. This could've been an interesting route to take, to see what sort of scenario would come out of this, since as many mentioned in this thread, this was far too early to start a second world war at this point in the time line, so the history would've taken a very different turn. Provided that they have enough time to explore it, which they clearly didn't have at all.

In the end, what we have is Kujo looking like he's in pain for all of five minute each episode, and then see that everything is blown up in the city. That lessens the overall impact of the conflict, and puts it as an after thought in the grand scheme of things.

Victorique got a better use of her screen time, since I could see just how much she had changed from the first episode to the end. The start of the episode was really strong with her accepting what ever happens to her in order to live on, and the realization she comes to go to Japan. Too bad we never got to see how she got there, (in fact, where was she living all this time?) but anyway, it was generally good stuff (her hair changing colour was also a nice touch).

The only part I didn't have much of a problem with (other than not getting their A-team on it to make it look as good as episode 12) was the end with their meeting. I had no problem with the way the two end up going down the symbolic isle, and Vicky getting a blue rose bouquet was a nice touch. It was genuinely touching seeing the 20-something couple take their steps towards a better future after everything they've been through (that we haven't seen, but whatever).

As for the hair color, a huge mental choc is sometimes followed by a decoloration of the hairs, though I don't know how it's done.

I did wonder if Kujo was going to turn up in a wheelchair, but I guess he was just wounded and hallucinating, then he got better....

Final thoughts from me: Well, we got a happy ending, which was good.

But I fear that whenever the topic of "bad pacing" comes up it won't be long before this series finale is brought up.
It's like they were taken by surprise when they realised there were only two episodes left, and had to just cram all the remaining plot points into that short length of time. It all collapsed into a disjointed sequence of snippets.
If they'd had 26 episodes, they might have got away with it. If they had four episodes to go through the same events, they could have linked things up more, shown Kujo in the army, shown Victorique finding her way to Japan, shown a bit more of the 'what happened to (x) next'...

I loved the series, don't get me wrong, but those last two episodes were dreadfully rushed.

This right here. Exactly. I enjoyed episode yet was disappointed at the same time. I felt there was much missing in this episode. I wanted that scene with Kujo and his legs missing to continue; it was beautiful yet it seemed out of place. I understood where they were trying to go with it but it felt disjointed. Yes, and where was Victorique living during the period between the boat and meeting up with Kujo again? I thought the hair change was a lovely addition.

I guess the ending serves to leave the characters open to future use by the author. Even though the saga of their union is over, they can go back to doing what they did best... solve mysteries.

Some of the subplots were left unresolved. It basically ends, "Victorica and Kujo will meet their friends again."

Anyhow, the king pretty much wants to bury everything that happened with the Marquis. He's even handing out pardons.

Maybe we'll get OAVs and novels of their adventures as a married couple that travels around the world solving mysteries.

Everything back in Sauville goes back to business as usual, it seems.

Spoiler for last episode and final thoughts:

A happy end... I'm really glad that it was a happy end, but I feel that the episode in general was rushed. Also, maybe a bit too happy. I wish that Kujou at least got some type of permanent injury. Heck, even a temporary injury is fine, but at least have him somewhat hurt from the long war. That would have made the end bittersweet, a very powerful one. Perhaps.
Nee-chan only got appearance this episode... Shame.


In general, I would say 8/10.
It has been long, but it finally ended.
The story itself was... okay. There were a few arcs that were genuinely good, but a lot of the times, the story was just somewhat okay. One of the problems with the stories is that a lot of the times, the mystery solving done by Victoria was rather pushed...
The last arc was just rushed in general, with Maman suddenly appearing and quickly dying off, super old ladies attacking and killing the two, the other Brian suddenly yandere-ing and just as suddenly giving in after falling (now that was hilarious), etc.
I'm just glad there wasn't anything as bad as that village arc though. Oh boy, that funny old man and the super maid... Good times.

Characters were probably the main attraction of the anime. Maybe? I guess you can say that the anime didn't have a great story, but at the same time, it was just watchable for the sake of entertainment. Something like that.
Anyways, characters were fine.
Kujou... really sucked though. Big time. He was everything a dense protagonist is PLUS more.
I liked Victoria, Aviril, and Sensei. Just fun to watch them interact.
To the end, Luigi never correctly called Kujou by his nationality.
Drill was a good character.
That king was sad till the very end. No, that love talk at the end didn't help his image. Rather, helped the maid's image.


But anyways, it was a fun anime to watch. Plenty of problems, yes, but still enjoyed the entire thing.
Probably will forget it right away though.
But still, it was fun.

A very solid ending, they managed to build quite a tension leading towards the end, but I am glad it all worked out fine. special thumbs up to the drama-build up towards the last quarter of the series.

I'm happy with this show, which pulled itself up quite a bit in the last few episodes.They crammed too much into each of them though. I wish they had dispensed with several earlier episodes and expanded these. Victorique's journey? Meeting the family?

But a good show, nevertheless. And a terrific performance from Yuuki Aoi.
