Anyone else find it slightly odd that they had him surrounded in a building 5 hours ago, and there's been no update since?

Not really, the last one we got here in France managed to hold 24hours so if you are thinking of following the thing until the end it may ruin your sleep cycle.

Secret negotiations. That is Western bureaucracy for you.

If it is the OMON taking charge the building wouldn't even be standing anymore at this moment.

Necrophilia isn't something well accepted even in AS where deviants meet.

I love how some western media calles them russians.
Came from Kyrgyzstan, look like some Turks, lived in Makhachkala for a year and they are russians...

Also, 24 russians were participating in Boston marathon

They fled into Kyrgyzstan FROM Chechnya, last I heard Russia was quite insistent that Chechnya is part of Russia. In fact, I believe they were so insistent they fought a war over it.

4 UK men jailed for toy-car terror plot:

"The terror plot involved targeting British reserve troops using a toy-car packed
with explosives.

But investigators said Thursday Britain's domestic spy agency of MI5 and police
were able to stop Zahid Iqbal, Mohammed Sharfaraz Ahmed, Umar Arshad and
Syed Farhan Hussain before they could launch the deadly attack."

One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.

The difference is usually what someone is fighting for. The ones usually considered to be freedom fighters are those fighting for a homeland against an occupying force.

The concept of if their struggle is valid or not depends on how one fews the ownership of the land in question and the rights and privlages of those in said lands.

However. freedom fighters and rebels don't generally go ten thousand kilometers away from the lands of their oppressors or their own lands to "strike a blow for the cause". Especially in a country that sort of supports them from time to time. There is no logic to such a thing unless the group intends to kill someone specific (snipers and assassins work better for that than random bombings unless that is the only way to get close). There is not clear target in Boston for such a thing.

Even as a blow against Americanism its somewhat of a goofy move. One of the more public figures who was present at the Marathon was Carlos Arredondo, a prominent anti war protester. Another was former Patriots offensive lineman Joe Andruzzi, a cancer survivor who sponsored a team at that Marathon for a cancer research foundation.

As warped as 9/11 was, the attackers could make some kind of twisted justification for the targets they picked. The World trade centers were the economic headquarters for "american imperialism", and the Pentagon is a military target. Deliberately attacking something more people associate with charity is pretty warped.

edit: It would appear that the second suspect is now in police custody.

I have a sad notion that it will boil down to "dangerous idiots" who committed violence because they couldn't connect the right dots to have a "meaningful target".
