converting bmp to jpeg and downlaoding software online

I found some software online which allows me to convert bmp to jpeg, but how do I know if that software is good or if it’s virus-free? I am also looking for a good software--cyclic redundancy check—to check my files. Can someone recommend some files?

When it comes to download something, especially free software online, how do you know if it’s a good one and doesn’t contain virus?

I think you scan the .zip file or .exe using symantec or ad-aware. For converting files I usually use Adobe Photoshop, but Microsoft Paint can also convert bitmap to jpeg, though it makes the picture grainy.

The old and free version of ACDC can do it. If you got lots of files, I believe it can even do batch processing. You don't really want the new versions anyways, as they are becomming bloat-ware.

If you know you will be doing it regularly, you should just head to www.jasc.com and download PaintShopPro 8.01 -will save you a lot of headache later on.
