Alwion Confederation, the homeland of Morgan the pirate, is what remain of Alwion Empire after it collapsed and has been taken over by the Board of Directors, representing the political and economic interests of megacorporations. It's an oppressive corporate dictatorship with a heavy censorship, secret police and a crushing bureaucracy. As an unaligned state, it ignore the TSAB, deemed as unsignificant.

The deal may change according to how TSAB deal with Morgan who is an annoyance to their ships (he is a cornered and starving wolf). And...

Device: Cocytus

Also called "the Eyes of Lunacy," there is little to no technical information on the device. Cocytus is believed to be an early form of Unison Device, permanently fused with its owner. The device currently exists as two red orbs that have taken the place of Noland's original eyes, permanently blinding him unless the device is active. The device AI is incredibly strong, capable of suppressing Noland's persona and taking over his body if his willpower is not strong enough. True to Belkan-style magic, the device focuses on enhancing close combat efficiency. The gift of insanity Cocytus bestows in turn increases Noland's physical attributes to incredible levels. Unlike other devices, the degree of enhancement is reliant on the synchronization between device and user -- the higher the synchronization, the greater the power, but also the higher the cost. It is unknown what exactly affects synchronization values, but Noland's emotional state has a definite influence. Cocytus also affects those in close proximity to Noland, causing people to slowly lose their grips on reality.

Personality:

Noland's original personality has been lost to madness, trauma, and age. What is left behind is a dissociative identity that manifests as two distinct personas: the Knight and the Lunatic.

The Knight is most reflective of Noland's original personality and is the dominant identity. He is a calm, collected person that speaks in cool and controlled tones. His voice is carefully modulated, a smooth, dark, and dry Baryton-noble. Polite and careful with his speech, his thoughtfully prepared responses reflect an intelligence and cultured background inherent of a Knight. Still, the scars of battle and time have made his tone grim at times, though he remains a realist in all situations. He is quiet when his family is brought up, and his tone becomes bitter when Belka is the topic. Despite it all, Noland possesses an interestingly dry, ironic wit and a dark sense of humor.

Noland's disposition and mood can shift dramatically depending on the topic at hand. Most definitive of this is when Cocytus is brought up, leaving him easily agitated and almost violent. He cools down quickly, however.

In contrast, the Lunatic personality takes over whenever the device Cocytus is activated, characterized by the subtle glow his "eyes" take on. In this state, Noland is boastful, arrogant, and very proud. He sees himself as superior to all those around him and will not tolerate any form of disrespect he perceives as directed towards him. The Lunatic persona relishes combat and slaughter, his laughter mocking as he tears into his opponents. By effect of the armor or the device, Noland's voice is warped heavily in Lunatic form. The persona's stability degenerates as device synchronization increases, coherent speech gradually turning into guttural roars.

History:

Before Noland became the Knight of Calamity, he was a Knight of Belka in close servitude to the Sankt Kaiser. He wielded the crescent blade spear device called "Mondschien," and practiced a unique martial style called "Sonate." Highly skilled and ever vigilant, Noland was an elite. These are the only solid facts about his position and purpose in regards to the kingdom. Historical inaccuracies and misrepresented articles distort his personal history heavily, making analysis and study difficult. Some accounts have him as a "Primarch" of sorts, whereas others mention his position as a "Custodes" or even "Cleric-Knight." The most bizarre recollection of Noland labels him as a cicisbeo or lover of the Sankt Kaiser -- this was justly denied and labeled as fiction. Regardless of background, all sources have him at very least close to the Sankt Kaiser.

These same distortions plague the interpretation of the Fall of Belka. The most commonly accepted story is that Noland Reiniger, as the Knight of Calamity, betrayed king and country by rampaging through the imperial palace and slaying all that dared stand in his way. The very pillars that held up the holy land were shattered and crumbled like ash before him, and the downfall of so many stains his hands. In this tragedy's finale, Noland shattered the Sankt Kaiser's holy armor and tore out the lord's still beating heart. By this act, the Knight's hands were forever cursed to drip with the blood of the Sankt Kaiser. How exactly this event unfolded is uncertain, many story elements heavily warped by time, bias, memory, and other elements.

The common story begins as such: As the favored Knight of the Sankt Kaiser, no other was as close as Noland. Time and time again he proved to be the greatest Knight, cementing himself by the Sankt Kaiser's side. Yet all of this was but a total sham as Noland plotted to assassinate and overthrow the Sankt Kaiser, a plan that the Lord soon discovered and ousted the Knight, stripping him of title, prestige, and honor. Before he could be punished, however, the former Knight escaped from his prison and fled into the darkness. The fallen Knight evaded his pursuers and traveled into unknown lands where slept a devastatingly powerful and ancient artifact. In desperation, he obtained the relic device "Cocytus," and upon activation, began the transformation from traitorous knight into the Knight of Calamity.

Noland was left a blind man with the twin orbs of Cocytus taking the place of his eyes. Within them smoldered a hidden madness and rage held back by a flimsy barrier of will. The feeling of such wondrous and incredible power was both intoxicating and thrilling, but the loss of sight was debilitating. However, he soon discovered that by tapping into the seething fire of his device, he could temporarily regain the ability to see. But to even look at him was to send the coldest of shivers down your spine, and eye contact with those furious red gems, now with baleful yellow irises and slitted black pupils, was to invite insanity. With this new found power, he began his mad quest to kill the Saint Kaiser. The country at the time was already rife with political and social turmoil, the people unruly and unhappy. Noland, in what little sanity he had left, brought together and lead a mercenary army to wage war with the Belkan Knights. As the armies clashed, Noland slipped into the Cradle and personally confronted the Lord he once served.

The day of calamity was preceded by one event: 400% synchronization. No information exists explaining how or why this phenomenon occurred, but the extreme level of synchronization resulted in a complete ego border collapse, allowing the device AI and the primal Id to take over. Thus was born the Knight of Calamity, bringing about the Cataclysm and the end of ancient Belka. No one knows what truly happened within those hallowed walls, only that a great and terrible battle was fought. And at its finish, the world trembled; it roared in anger; it cried in agony; it screamed in terror.

Style:

Noland is a full frontal assault specialist. Though the Knight is from a time long past, his experience and battle-hardened skills give him an edge over many foes. He often dives straight into the thickest of melees and devastates the enemy all around, completely disregarding his own safety. This does not mean he is reckless, however. He fights on an instinctual level, so he understands when an attack is dangerous and should be avoided. The fearlessness inherent in madness allows him to leap about in a show of extraordinary agility and acrobatics, allowing him to avoid attacks and set up a more favorable position. That which he cannot defend from, he will unflinchingly continue his assault. With his incredible speed, agility, and resilience to damage, Noland can close the difference between he and the enemy in barely a blink then crush them with his terrifying strength. No mercy for the enemy, even if they beg for it.

Since Noland is a knight that focuses almost exclusively on close combat, his melee abilities are ludicrously powerful. As a cost, however, his ranged combat is far below par. Unless otherwise noted, offensive spells utilize Noland's personal stats rather than individual spell-based stats.

Spells marked with Passive means they are constantly active and do not require active control. This also means there is a constant drain on his mana and stamina.

Defensive / Supportive

Knight Armor -- Cocytus: An ancient Belkan variant of Knight Armor. It manifests as plate-style armor that can deflect physical and magic attacks under AA class power and reduce the damage inflicted by attacks of higher power. Damages to the armor are immediately sealed up, though the wound underneath remains. The armor itself causes three changes in Noland's body:

1. The physical and mental limitations of the body are lifted, allowing him to use 100% of his muscles' power rather than the usual 20%.

2. Sensations of pain are numbed significantly, but not completely.

3. The body is reinforced against damage; the armor will immediately "treat" any injuries such as splinting a broken bone or resetting a dislocated joint. These treatments are haphazard at best and dangerous at worst.

The changes are a great physical strain on Noland's body.

Knight Armor -- Ancile: An invisible, intangible field surrounds Noland. It is useless against physical attacks, but "shooting" spells are deflected. Shieldbreakers can bypass the field, as can overwhelming firepower, but the field remains active even after being pierced -- it just fills in the hole.

Insanity Sign -- Terror of Death: (Passive) His very presence is fearsome, his battle cries sending shivers even down the most hardened of warriors. Subtly woven in this his aura and voice are hallucinogenic spells that warp one's perception of reality and reveals their greatest fears. Those caught in this spell are immediately subjected to frightening visions of their greatest fears and sins. This Gaze of Flame can sap the very will to fight and fill a warrior with nothing but terror.

Insanity Sign -- Endless Jihad: (Passive) A side effect of the armor and Mad Enhancement. Fatigue and stress are suppressed, allowing for seemingly endless stamina in battle. So as long as he is enraged and in the effects of lunacy, Noland will always find the strength to fight on. The fatigue is cumulative, however, and upon deactivation of the device it all comes back.

Insanity Sign -- Mad Enhancement: (Passive) All physical attributes are increased drastically at the cost of sanity. The greater the synchronization between man and device, the greater the attribute increase, but the greater the toll.

Offensive / Weapons:

Murderous -- Bloody Hands: Swathed in disruptive energies, physical defenses like armor crumple like tin foil against the armored fists and greaves of the Berserker. The claw-like hands and gauntlet have a sort of minor magic nullifying effect, allowing him to "tear" through weaker spells or even be used to counter magical weapons. The hands are cursed to drip the blood of the Saint King eternally as a reminder of his greatest sin. As his primary weapons, he is required to be in melee combat.

Tyrant Sword -- Wraith Blade "Valhalla": Noland's ultimate weapon, the cursed blade of tragedy. The sword is composed of unidentified energies and extends outward from his right hand with an ethereal crimson light. The blade disintegrates all matter it touches and disrupts magic completely. Use of this weapon results in a great physical and mental strain, as it uses Noland's life force to fuel its destructive power -- extended use could very well kill him, as every minute of its use shortens his lifespan. As a melee weapon, he is required to be in close quarters.

Restriction -- Chains of Heaven and Hell: Originating from his gauntlets, two spiked chains extend to incredible lengths for purposes of restraint, capture, defense, movement, and even extending his range of attack. The chains themselves are very solid, requiring a powerful direct hit to break through. As it is a physical chain rather than magical, dispelling will not work.

Bullet Hell -- Gatling Rave: Long range suppression fire. Small explosive "bolts" are fired out from the gauntlet near the wrist. Although low in power, the high rate and sheer volume of fire can make movement difficult. Noland can add his other arm for double the firepower at the cost of a free hand.

Bullet Hell -- Infernal Devil's Spear: Medium range anti-armor. A two-staged missile-like projectile. It takes the shape of a fiery spear that first melts through the armor or shield then explodes violently in a burst of scorching power.

So yeah anyway the chapter I’ve been working on has been getting huge and I’ve decided I’m going to seriously try and write and post in smaller segments and stitch them together into a huge ass chapter later. So on that note I present the first scene of Chapter 3 about 5.6k words of fluff and set up still not much going on, but as should be rather clear that’ll be changing shortly… Due to it's size it dosen't merit a nuke, but it needs something...

Friday, 1800 hours, 1500 feet above Administered World 234’s equilateral Jungle:

Emil watched the jungle race by below them like a green carpet from the back ramp of the helicopter as it neared the first LZ where his team would disembark. The plan for the recon mission was fairly simply they had six people and so would form two teams of three and deploy one to each site. Kou would lead one along with Shin and Miller, and he would lead the other with Keller and Makoto.

Both of the sites were surrounded by ample cover and given the mission the terrain favored them over the enemy. There targets would be stuck basiclly having to expose themselves when they moved into the cleared and open camps while they should have ample cover to keep themselves concealed and thus not tip the enemy off that there operation had been compromised. Overall this would be a very hard mission to screw up… Which after a quick glance at the helicopters other occupants Emil felt was a rather good thing given that the team they’d assembled for it was hardly specialized for the task at hand.

“We’re about a minute out so gather your bags and please check the cabin to be sure you haven’t forgotten anything boys and girls because once you’re out I’m gone.” The Pilot cut in over the PA as she descended even lower now leveling off just above the tree tops. The lower altitude and now dropping speed though brought the jungle below into somewhat better focus, but even so it still largely resembled a giant green carpet stretching out in all direction to the horizon as it was nearly impossible to see anything below the thick canopy.

“Alright this is you’re stop people, have fun.” The pilot announced sarcastically as she slowed the helicopter into a stable hover about 50 feet above the canopy the helicopters rotor wash beat the trees below them with considerably force and a storm of leaves and flying debris was quickly formed. Emil said nothing and merely gestured for his team to follow him as he stepped off the ramp and into the artificial windstorm.

While no dogfighter Emil like most mages could nonetheless at least fly a bit and guided himself in through the canopy and to the forest floor for a gentle landing, and Keller followed a moment later. Makoto’s landing was a bit louder as she couldn’t really fly at all and so her fall was merely slowed a bit and she landed with a thud, but still no the worse for wear. The helo left quickly once it’s cargo was deployed and within a minute or so the loud whine of it’s engines had faded out into the distance leaving the jungle eerily quite.

“Alright let’s get moving we’ve got some ground to cover and I want to try to get into a good observation post by tomorrow morning.” Emil announced swiftly taking charge and getting the mission underway.

Government Officers Several hours later:

The guys that had stayed behind while the rest of the task force went off for a night of camping in a sweltering jungle had at first rightly assumed they’d gotten the better deal… A position they were now beginning to seriously reconsider. With no viable excuses every remaining member of the group had been hog tied into going over the reasm of records from the two dig sites that spanned nearly a decade in search of any clue as to why a criminal group might want to target them. Well aside from Irene she said she had business and had slinked off about and hour in and hadn’t repapered yet. Felix suspected she had merely stuck around a bit to make sure they were working and then gone off to nap.

“Argh god this sucks!” Vita suddenly announced finally fed up and ready to start pulling he hair out if she had to ready one more paragraph of the insanely dry drivel that was hovering before her on a holoscreen. She had not joined the military to spend hours reading the half baked ramblings of a bunch of pencil necked dirt diggers!

“Yeah looks we have another thing to agree on; this blows.” Felix wasn’t far behind her and was hiding his irritation only slightly better.

“I’m surprised the other stooge seems to be so enthralled by it though.” Vita remarked glancing over at Pixy whose head was propped up on one hand as text slowly scrolled past on the holo-window before him.

“Acutally his terminal is on a loop and he’s asleep.” Felix informed her nonchalantly following her gaze and eyeing his long time associate.

“But his eyes are open!” Vita countered disbelievingly.

“Yeah I know, but he’s still asleep trust me.” Felix reassured her knowingly.

Still unconvinced Vita approached him now with a sense of morbid curiosity and poked him slightly on the shoulder; he wobbled but was otherwise unresponsive. “Okay that’s kinda creepy…” She remarked uncomfortably.

“Eh this isn’t that bad he used to be way worse trust me.” Felix remarked dismissively indeed Pixy could seem a bit… off at times, but the Pixy of old could also seem off while simultaneously also seemingly like he might snap and kill you if you pissed him off. Whatever his issues Felix rather preferred the current version.

“How long have you two known each other anyway?” Vita asked mildly curious as even Felix’s life story had to be more interesting then the crap she was supposed to be working on; at least that was how she rationalized it to herself.

“Long time.” Felix responded cryptically not particularly wanting to talk about it discussing how long he’d know Pixy would quickly lead to how they meet and then there history in general which could entail all sorts of uncomfortable questions.

“How long is a long time?” Vita shot back slightly annoyed.

“Quite awhile.” Felix responded really just trying to avoid the topic.

“Fine whatever asshole be like that.” Vita replied slightly miffed mistaking that desire for taunting and feeling that he’d basiclly totally rebuffed her attempt to be slightly amiable and try to learn a bit about him… Hell why did she even care either way? She already knew what she needed to know about him he was an egotistical jackass end of story she concluded to herself turning her back to him and attempting to completely ignore his presence.

Felix was acutally slightly surprised when rather then a comeback or further probing she got pissed and basiclly just started ignoring him. She acutally seemed to be genuinely annoyed he’d blown her off though frankly he was at a bit of a loss as to why she would be angry he didn’t want to talk about his past or for that matter why she’d care about it to start with. Though her reasons for being disgruntled somewhat evaded him given that they were likely to being going into combat again soon he supposed he ought to be make some effort to appease her. Especially given that he acutally hadn’t really been trying to be an ass for once. (as rare of an occurrence as that was.)

“Look I wasn’t trying to be a dick it’s just that there’s some stuff in the past I don’t really like to talk or think about allot and would rather just leave dead and buried.” He announced seriously it wasn’t quite an apology, that was rather too much to hope for, but it was still a rather rare attempt to explain his behavior.

Vita glanced at him over her shoulder and seemed to consider the statement for a bit before she shrugged and relaxed her posture slightly seemingly not quite as annoyed anymore. “Yeah well I guess I can understand that I didn’t mean to be nosey.” She finally grumbled back she was hardly going to be the bigger person her and apologize herself for perhaps overreacting a bit and not taking a hint, but she had things in her own past she’d rather not have dredged up even accidentally.

There was another pause after that and the atmosphere became decidedly awkward with both of them thinking they ought to say something, but neither really being sure what… Luckily they were quickly provided with an escape route that gave them an easy out as Atuwe casually wandered into the office. “Hey I’m done with my crap and was gonna get some take out delivered, not being an ass like SOME people” he glared at Felix. “I figured I’d ask if you all wanted anything?”

“Oh yeah food sounds good, very good.” Felix hurriedly replied.

“Yeah food is good!” Vita quickly added

Atuwe looked at them slightly funny finding the sudden hurried responses a tad odd, but quickly dismissing it and moved on to figure out what they all wanted to eat.

Elsewhere another part of the team was also rather uncomfortable albeit for completely different reasons…

“Fucking bugs.” Kou cursed to himself crushing another mosquito to death as it made a run on the back of his neck. It was a futile effort being dusk for everyone he crushed ten more swarmed in to take it’s place.

“Hey it could be worse!” Miller encouraged cheerfully as the three man team continued there overland trudge toward there observation point.

“How could it be worse?” Kou challenged him annoyed. “Seriously what could make being forced to trudge through a festering stinking jungle in the middle of the night worse?” It took all his self control not to yell this at the insufferably cheerful lout.

Miller seemed slightly offended but quickly and gamely responded. “Well for one it could be ra---“ Everyone froze as Miller was interrupted by the jungle being momentarily illuminated by the harsh white light of a lightning bolt swiftly followed by the rubble of nearby thunder; what came after that wasn’t any great surprise and before the team even really had a chance to break out there rain gear the downpour was upon them in force.

“Well… the bugs are gone at least, yeah?” Miller broadcast mentally, his uncomfortable laugh totally drowned out by the downpour.

I hate you, hate you SO bad. Kou came back telepathically since he’d have needed to scream to be heard over the raging storm and that would have just ruined the effect.

After some wrangling over who was going to pay for what and then more argument over what sort of food would be purchase the food was nonetheless ordered, and Atuwe sent out to pick it up. This was decided when the others citied the age old rule that the guy who suggests ordering food has to go get it unless he’s gonna pay for all of it seeing as that wasn’t going to happen and he was really hungry he didn’t have much choice really.

Atuwe returned to the office about 15 minutes later and stowed his umbrella while idly glancing out the window at the beginning rain storm. Luckily it had only just started when he was already on his way back and he been wise enough to prepare for this eventually and so he was still reasonably dry, and more importantly so was the sack of food he’d brought with him. Said sack was quickly attacked and emptied as all present got down the business of stuffing there faces and very little was said for a further ten minutes or so.

The increasing racket of the rain pounding the building and several lightning strikes nearby though finally drew Atuwe attention back outside “Getting pretty nasty out would suck to be outside in this…” He commented idly watching the intensifying storm.

“Yeeup.” Pixy responded half rhetorically as he dug at the bottom of one of the containers to extract the last few bits of food from it. Felix and Vita didn’t even bother with that much and just kept eating.

“Yeah none of you feel sorry for the guys out there at all do you?” Atuwe sighed he at least felt a little sorry for the guys.

“Not really no.” Felix responded idly tossing aside an empty container and nailing the trash can despite his over the shoulder toss.

“Better them then us.” Vita agreed between mouthfuls of food finishing off her current serving but still hungry and now scanning the area for something else.

“Well at least you’re consistent if nothing else…” Atuwe deadpanned.

“Hey pass that chicken!” Vita suddenly thrust her finger out and indicated the container sitting besides Felix.

“You already got more then your share.” He replied dismissively.

“You’re not eating it what do you care?” She responded grumpily.

“Maybe I’ll eat it later.” He responded with a shrug.

“Just give me the damn chicken!” She was now starting to get annoyed.

“No there’s plenty of other stuff eat something else.” Felix scolded her like a six year old pissing her off even more.

“I don’t want the other stuff I want the chicken!” The time for reasonable compromise was long past and she suddenly lunged and made a grab for the container near Felix, but he was a second faster and snatched it away.

She pressed the “attack” and he quickly hopped to his feet and backpedaling lifting the container up over his head and out of her reach where it firmly remained despite a series of rather lame hops to try and snatch it away from him. Normally she’d probably have started hitting him by this point, but she was worried he might drop the food if she did… Pixy watched the “battle” from off to the side with a very prominent smirk while Atuwe merely sighed as he was ignored again… that seemed to happen allot when those two were in the same room acutally.

Elsewhere that night as one might expect some others weren’t enjoying nearly such a comfortable and laid back evening. “This blows.” Shin whined as the incessant rainfall continued unabated cascading off the jungle canopy above them and gathering in drops so big they often stung a bit when they finally broke loose from the leaves and fell. Against this sort of onslaught there raingear had proved predictably useless as the weather had found every hole in it with depressing speed and quickly made them question why exactly you’d bothered to don it to start with as they were all soaked to the bone in short order.

“Thank you for that stunning revelation.” Kou responded venomously, he was this close to deciding to kill both his teammates in their sleep they’d never find the bodies and he could blame it on an ambush… But annoying as his teammates were though his hatred for them paled in comparison for his loathing of those that had gotten to stay behind which knew few limits at the moment. He took some minor solace in the fact that a number of others must have had it just as bad as them though. Or so he thought, but he’d have been wrong.

“Foods up!” Keller announced cheerfully to the other two members of her team who where positioned near the mouth of the small cave they’d laid up in. It gave them a good view of the valley and dig site below and provided ample protection from the rain due to the floor and roofs uphill slant. Emil had been able to locate this position quickly and now they team was waiting out the storm and observing their target warm and dry and soon to be well feed; such were the benefits of having actual experience in the wilderness.

Government Offices sometime later:

“How the hell did you end up as an instructor anyway?” Vita questioned idly as she sifted through the papers in front of her only barely paying attention. Pixy had wandered off sometime ago to do something probably sleep and Atuwe had finished reviewing the electronic records not to long ago and gone to bed. This left Felix and Vita alone in the office really the only reason both of them were still even there was because neither wanted to be the first to quit…

“What you mean how; I signed the papers.” Felix shot back grumpily he was not happy to be sitting at this damn desk in the wee hours churning through reams of reports composed of chicken scratch that this world’s archeologist apparently passed off as writing.

“You know what I meant.” Vita countered mildly annoyed by his pig headedness, but a bit more forgiving of it then usual given the hour and what he was being forced to do; she wasn’t exactly feeling too happy go lucky herself after all. “Only having been with you like a week I can already see you’ve got experience in investigations I’d think you’d be more suited to a position in Special Investigations or even working as an Enforcer.”

“It’s complicated.” He answered now basiclly just avoiding the question entirely.

“We’ve got time I’d say.” Vita gestured to the still largely intact pile of papers strewn about the place.

“I have investigative experience true, but I started out as a combat mage and frankly I only got into investigations because making a living by blowing stuff up as a Merc isn’t nearly as easy as popular culture would have you believe; at least if you have any scruples. So it was really take on investigative work as well, join the TSAB, or go get a normal career. Well I suppose ‘starve to death’ was also technically an option, but as you might imagine I wasn’t to keen on that one.” Seeing she probably wasn’t going to drop it and too worn out to fight he decided to try and placate her.

“Why not just join the TSAB if you wanted to get paid to fight then?” She asked casually.

“You’ve worked for them for years do you even really need to ask?” He eyed her inquisitively.

“Touché, but then here you are now so what changed and you still haven’t explained how you ended up here specifically.” She seemed genuinely curious as to the answer.

“Like I said yeah I’ve got investigative experience, but I’ve got plenty of combat experience too. Really I prefer combat jobs to investigations as for how I ended up here that was the old mans doing though I’m still not sure he hasn’t finally totally lost it thinking I’d make a good instructor, but hey the pay is good and orders are orders right?” He shrugged. “As for why I joined the TSAB at all… hell if I know I must have been high on something the doctors had given me at the time.” He finished half heartedly though it was pretty clearly an excuse to cover for that fact he really wasn’t quite sure what had compelled him to do it himself or at least wouldn’t voice his real reasons. This was further evidenced by the fact that after the comment he leaned back slightly and seemed almost contemplative as if pondering the question himself.

Vita watched him for about a minute finding the sight of him seemingly lost in thought a tad odd, she hadn’t know him long sure, but even still it struck her as odd. Then again it was late as all hell and she was feeling a tad loopy herself and now she found she really just didn’t feel like continuing to work anymore. All the energy just seemed to have drained out of the room and an involuntary yawn that seemed to come from nowhere a few seconds later merely drove it home. “This stupid anyway there’s nothing in here and I think we need sleep more then anything what do you say we just ditch this crap already?” Vita purposed after a minute or so pushing her chair back away from her desk and surveying the room.

Felix was startled out of whatever he was musing about by the suggestion. “Yeah sounds good to me.” He remarked in an uncharacteristically weak manner as he pushed himself to his feet. He lazily bid Vita good night and trudged the short distance to the barracks and the small room that he’d claimed as his own during the stay. He didn’t bother to undress merely kicking off his boots before climbing into bed. Said bed wasn’t exactly comfy, but even by being covered with a mattress it still managed to beat a rather large number of places he’d had to sleep over the years and he got into a reasonably comfortable position fairly quickly.

As he drifted off the question from before still bugged him slightly why had he agreed to join officially? It was certainly a fair question, but one he found himself oddly unable to answer satisfactorily to himself. It had been a sort of spur of the moment thing done with minimal consideration and after it was done he’d been swept up into things so quickly he’d not even really had time to consider the question nor had anyone raised it until now… But as quickly as the question arose he banished the nonsense from his mind. What did it matter why? He’d done it and it was done so why dwell on it? Besides he had better things to be worrying about right now. His mind thus assuaged he was quickly out like a light, snoring, and enjoying his well earned sleep.

Despite going to sleep last Felix and Vita acutally work up first more out of habit then necessity in this case. Though they were expecting the other two mages that would be reinforcing them fairly early so it wouldn’t be a total waste. Atuwe was around having taken a report from the recon teams in the wee hours and unable to really get back to sleep since. Said report has basiclly “We’re fucking wet and there’s nothing here.” From Kou and “Al clear” from Emil not unexpected as they’re intel indicated the enemy probably wouldn’t move until sometime today. Despite this the atmosphere wasn’t particularly tense at the moment Pixy was napping in his chair nearby, Irene had wandered off to discuss something with the locals and Vita and Felix we’re basiclly just sitting around killing time. People could get used to almost anything including sitting around waiting for the call to run off to a quite possibly life and death battle and for this lot this was literally just another day at the office. Acutally all present were more then a little bored at the moment, but luckily fate was conspiring to provide a bit entertainment for the morning.

“No it was this way!” Daisy paused at an intersection and surveyed the area for a moment before confidently pointing down the left hall.

“Wrong they specifically said the third floor in the northeast corner.” Rose informed her flatly.

“Are you sure?” Daisy glanced back at her scratching her head in thought.

“Yes I’m sure; you really need to pay more attention.” Rose responded setting off down the right hall in the direction of the stairs without further discussion.

“Na that’s what I’ve got you around for!” Daisy announced merrily as she quickly fell in behind her.

“No matter how depressingly true that might be could you at least not say it out loud so nonchalantly…” Rose sighed as she began ascending the stairs toward there destination which was only a few feet from the exit of the stair well by her reckoning. Sure enough as they emerged onto the third floor they spotted the office they we’re looking for. “Okay there it is let’s try and make a good first impress— Daisy? Damn it!” Somehow the smaller girl had slipped by her and already flung open the door to the office.

“Hiya---“ Daisy’s enthusiastic greeting was suddenly brought to a screeching halt. “Oh. My. God!” She suddenly announced awestruck pausing at the door a moment to confirm what she was seeing.

“Huh?” Rose queried slightly confused having caught up with her partner only lost her again as he became little more then a of blur of white and brown shooting across the room toward a taller man in an instructor’s uniform at the back of the office. Acutally that wasn’t her target at all, but the man was obscuring her mark from Rose’s view not that hard to do acutally given its size.

“What the—“ Was all Felix managed to get out before he was unceremoniously shoved asid.

“Gah!” That came from Vita second later as Daisy nearly slammed into her attempting to glomp this was prevent only due to years of close quarters fighting experience on Vita’s part which allowed to spot and narrowly dodge her assailants initial rush.

This seemed to faze her little. “It is you!” She announced in a method like this explained everything, but really just confused everyone watching even more. “Is she here too?” She added quickly glancing around in all directions looking for… something. “Oh well this is good too you’re my favorite anyway since you’re short and I’m short, and also you’re cute!” So saying the insane girl made another lunge and this time acutally managed to surprise and grab Vita.

“Hey, hey hands off!” Vita grabbed a nearby book from a desk and began tying to smack her assailant with it like she was some sort of stray overly amorous dog; which frankly didn’t seem too far off the mark. Unfortunately Vita’s attempts to beat Daisy off were being fairly badly hampered by the fact that despite the girls short stature she still had the better part of half a foot on Vita which meant the later couldn’t really pummel her effectively with her chosen weapon.

“Ah I see a raving fan girl… Yeah I suppose we were missing that particular brand of insanity.” Felix deadpanned as it clicked and then quickly began rubbing his temples in aggravation as he watched the half crazed private very nearly assault the object of her obsession. This nonsense needed to stop and so thinking he moved in and grabbed the girl by the neck of her uniform; again rather like a misbehaving canine and acutally lifted her clear off the ground by the scruff of her neck. “I’m not one to talk, but I’m pretty sure glomping isn’t really an acceptable way to greet a superior officer.” He also demonstrated an unusual knowledge of fandom jargon in the process…

Due to you know a decade around Hayate that fact failed to escape Vita’s notice and her relief at being saved from the crazed little freak quickly dissipated as it clicked in her head. “’Glomping’? Now where exactly did you learn that phrase…?” She asked not quite, but very nearly leering at him as she sensed possible material to be exploited for insults.

Felix’s face contorted into a grimace in response and Vita smirked, but he quickly countered rather decisively. “… You want me to let her go?” He nodded at the still squirming and struggling girl in his grip.

That wiped the smirk off Vita’s face real quick. “Never mind.” She quickly forgot the entire thing.

“What I thought…” He grumbled back before turning his attention back to his captive she was still struggling though significantly less now. “You going to behave yourself?” She tried to get crane her neck back to glare at him, but due to her position it wasn’t really working; the ceiling was probably duly intimidated though.

“Daisy for the love of god please act your age…” That labored plea came from her partner and acutally seemed to work as despite an annoyed frown the smaller girl’s posture slumped signaling submission. Sensing this Felix promptly let her go… with no warning thus dropping her right onto her ass.

“Ow!” She glared back at him acutally managing to face him this time and seemed ready to go again until Rose fixed her with a rather hard and disapproving look and she thought better of it.

Her partner subdued for the moment Rose quickly shifted into damage control. “I’m really sorry about that it’s just that she’s sort of a fan---“

“Really?” Vita shot back with dripping sarcasm.

“She hides it so well…” Felix added blandly.

Yeah this is going to go great… Rose mused to herself wearily.

Emil casually surveyed the jungle below him from his perch on a rock just outside there caves entrance, his rifle laying across his lap and combination of the adaptive camouflage on his barrier jacket and a low level optical illusion breaking up his outline. Besides the rain last night nothing of note had happened and with that white noise now gone the other sounds of jungle roars, chirps, and howls of various indigenous forms of life could be heard. Despite the somewhat alien environment, indicated most clearly by the enormous purple gas giant hanging in and filling a huge section of the sky even now, he acutally found the area somewhat soothing. It had been awhile since he gotten to spend sometime away from an urban areas and out in nature… Of coruse having thought that the scene was quickly ruined by something that simply did not belong.

“You hear that?” He shot back to Makoto who was positioned just inside the cave entrance; Keller was currently taking her turn to sleep.

“Hear what?” She replied slightly confused and a bit startled at the question truth be told she’d been nodding off slightly.

“Engines.” Emil responded simply rising to his feet and scanning back and forth trying to isolated the general area of the sound. Makoto joined him outside a moment later having enough good sense to crouch low and having covered her white and red barrier jacket with a camouflaged smock. That might not seem like much, but Emil had, had to work with some less then bright people over the years and found her at least competent if inexperienced in the task at hand. He had little way of knowing this was mostly because he’d yet to she her in a situation that could expose her more… abrasive and irrational aspects, but he’d find out about that in due time for now though he found working with her agreeable.

“8 O’clock… say 3500 meters I saw a glint.” Makoto suddenly announced pointing for further emphasis.

Emil shouldered his weapon and pumped up the magnification and scanning the indicated sector and sure enough… “Yeah I’ve got several large trucks moving along an access road toward the camp.” He informed her mildly impressed she’d spotted even the reflection at this distance she must have damn good eyes. Of coruse as per there intelligence the camp was shut down for the entire weekend so there was no valid reason for a convoy of heavy vehicles to be rolling into it early in the morning which meant…“Get Keller up and tell her to get a line back to headquarters.” Emil ordered and Makoto quickly moved back to rouse the other women as he held his position continuing to observe the vehicles as they rolled into the camp.

Daisy had by now been banished onto a coffee run as penance for her behavior leaving Rose alone to try and defend her wayward friend. “So yeah as I said she’s basiclly sort of a fan girl for Lt. Colonel Yagami and pretty much anything closely associated with her.”

“Sort of?” Vita shot back skeptically.

“She’s honestly not normally that bad I think the surprise factor just sort of pushed her over the edge…” Rose defended a tad weakly.

“I’m almost tempted to blame this on the old man, but I doubt even he had this much information… I’m sure he’ll love it when he finds out though.” Felix remarked wearily, but hey why the hell not since they seemed to be accumulating a full blown nut house he figured they needed an obsessive compulsive to round out the stable...

“Though you know I didn’t even know Hayate really had fan girls… I always thought that was more Signum and Tesla’s department.” Vita remarked idly seemingly mostly over the incident now that the offender was out of her presence.

“Well it started because there magical styles are the most similar…” Rose informed her.

“Ah I see so she’s pretty much helpless if anyone gets within oh 2 or 3 miles of her…” That idle remark by Felix earned him a glare from Vita but he stared right back at her unfazed. “Come on tell me I’m wrong.” He challenged.

“We’ve been working on the issue.” Vita grumbled back.

“Anyway like I said I think if she’d know about it before hand she might have been able to control herself…” Rose reiterated her earlier comments.

“Might have?” Felix questioned pointedly.

“I may have known her for several years now, but I won’t pretend to know what exactly goes on in her head allot of the time.” She answered bluntly.

“Hey guys we’ve got a phone call; collect from the equatorial jungle.” Atuwe took this moment to emerge back into the main office with news from the front. The next report wasn’t scheduled for several hours though which meant something had changed and the atmosphere instantly took a turn for the serious as both Felix and Vita gained frowns.

“Guess this means breakfast is cancelled…” Pixy commented idly startlingly several people who hadn’t realized he was even awake and also managing to totally screw over the just established mood.

Ahh, sorry about that. Uomo is my Type-0 Sentoukijin character, who keeps in touch with his fellow Sentoukijin. He regularely keeps mail contact with Ginga and Subaru, so having him be in contact with Asclei would seem natural as soon as he learns of him to me.

I need to rewatch FMP) she was pretty much human, similar to how a whispered's knowledge is hidden before it is uncovered, so is the power of a.... dammit, what was the term I invented for her? God its been way too long. -_-; Anyway, she uses a cyber-armor, which really is like a small mecha-like armor which only enhances physical abillities, and provides weapons and armor. To a normal human, the effects would be minimal and not worth the cost, but to Keroko her naturally powerfull abillities are increased to a point where she becomes a mecha-destroying weapon.

Background: Season one and most of season two of ReBoot were very much For Kids, and they were under notoriously strict family censor regulations. At the end of season two, they changed directions and broadcast stations, and the story got a lot darker by mid-season three. Most of the memorable moments were from then.

There were also two "movies" which comprised season four, and they ended in a cliffhanger. Only recently has there been talk about reviving the series.

Keytools are basically Intelligent Devices. In fact, they're almost exactly like Intelligent Devices, except that they're a lot more multipurpose. With a bit of rewriting, you can port the cast of ReBoot into the Nanohaverse easily.

As for why this now, I've been rewatching my episodes of ReBoot, and I have come to appreciate once again just how amazing a villain Megabyte can be. (Spoiler for the third season.)

I love it how everytime a player wins, the NPCs get turned into squiggly worms. Makes you wonder if the game you are playing is cybernetically ethical, or is sanctioned "bitracide". :3




@Keroko: Decided to look up Naaru on WoWWiki, and I least expected to be vindicated on "Without the Void, the Light cannot exist."!!!

Not to mention that souls are what fills the Naaru. I said something to that extent in my original Khrack.

And M'uru/Entropius is giving me some Khrack about how some Quera daemons look like...




@dkellis: I haven't forgiven them either, BUT I will IF they use the Caverns of Time to show that Sageras created a Time Loop by infiltrating it and going back in time to perform some nefarious deed, and in the process met the Eredar and corrupted them. The concept of Future History, or CLAMP hitsuzen, or Nasuism. Other than those, they'd better make sure that GOOOOD excuse is really convincing.

I only followed the TV releases, so didn't know what happened thereafter. I would later heavily borrow Reboot for my Digimon fics, along with Red Alert 2. :3

And yes I agree that they should revive the series for epic justice!

Hmm, doesn't look like a show I'd enjoy, but for the porting, go for it, I say.
