Demi - somewhat complicated.

Mom married into family but didn't make child with the father, though still inheriting the family name. Father soon dies in a plane crash and mother re-marries, though the surname from the former husband remains (high class families surnames overrides a lower class persons regardless of gender). Finally makes a child, though the child is only a member of the family due to circumstances.

No awkwardness?

I think there would be but that depends heavily on the relatioons of both children to the mother. If it is as I imagine, then violence might even ensue.

Well, how would a traditionalist family view it? That's what I portray the Sarashiki's as.

Snide remarks, fake politeness and a lot of backstabbing?

I honestly imagine the Sarashikis as nice people, just not thoughtful so I doubt there'd be much tension. Just... Insecurity as to where they stand with each other I guess? The sarashiki's arent mentioned so yeah.

Traditional japanese entails the first line I mentioned.

Well, Chifuyu's middle school friend in Reversal is in that situation in, though its mostly used as a framing device to expand on the Sarashiki's. While Tatenashi herself is unarguably the second line, all the other Sarashiki's follow the former. Even good girl Kanzashi snipes from time to time.

That's not even mentioning them being Templars:/

How about more mobility (I did mentioned before).

Since Japan has Yukihira (Freaking ONE-HIT KILL, there is no better weapon than that). It only make sense if they make their unit (or at least develop Test-bed for High-mobility IS) to able to close in against their opponent quickly while dodging the attack at the same time.

Well, that's actually quite believable when we talk about golem 1, it's defense is not so much thin as it's NONEXISTENT. Do have to remember though, it DOES have exceptionally tough internal frame, especially on the arm portion.

Also do remember that damaging core is not easy, even with I.S.-class weapon, as I said before, that's really some beam saber Minerva have.

Though your explanation also may explain why Dragon Cannon can't do jack, normal pressure/shockwave just didn't work

current design additions for Uchigane are two katana scabbards on each arm for drawing or twin barrel beam machine guns on either arm that are covered when deploying a solid state arm sword that covers both vulcans. Think double sided GN sword.

if I use the two scabbard on each arm design, the waist scabbard will definitely have to go. The GN sword like idea seems to hold water... but I guess I'm still on the fence about it.

I'll probably change the waist scabbard sword at one point, but only for special characters. I really do want to make that high mobility design, but the Uchigane itself doesn't look upgradable in terms of speed.
