Even the best hitters have an off game, especially against a pitcher they've never faced before with a pitch that gives them particular trouble.

^his teammates were facing that pitcher for the first time too. They did alright

and it wasn't just the forkball. He couldn't hit fastballs either

if it was my team, I'd make him first base coach and thats it lol

the other team recognized that he was the toughest hitter and focused harder on him, and he did end up with the crucial hit at the end

Anyone else think Kawai was out in episode 22?

Abe didn't block the plate well, but he did just well enough to prevent the slide from getting through. And since he didn't drop the ball (as far as I could tell), that's an out.

I didn't re-watch it or anything, so I could be wrong.

Yep, awaiting the karaoke. Once we have that we'll re-release 1-17 in wide screen.

He didn't put the tag on him before his foot touched the plate is the only explaination. He talks about the throw being just a little too late. And Kawai outweighs him by only 50lbs according to stats, BTW.

As mentioned above, the team completely changed their strategy when they faced Tajima at the plate, as they didn't want the best batter in the lineup to hurt them.

The old sports adage holds true here, as they forced the other batters to try and beat them, and they showed they were up to the challenge.

This happens to the best players in real baseball all the time, and will often have an 0-3 or 0-4 game, but if given the opportunity they can still deliver the crucial clutch hit when the game's on the line despite not doing well earlier in the game.

Yep. Got the DVD on Tuesday. Nice little side story. Timed 24-25 and I'm currently editing them for checking. Sent 26 to our translator and he'll get to it as soon as he can.

Just watched 21 eps this weekend and loved it! So much more realistic than Princess 9, the only other baseball anime I've seen. I only wish some of the chars looked more distinctive, I get a few mixed up. I hope the coach gets more of a backstory since she's spending all her savings on this team there must be a driving reason.

While I find Mihashi's lack of confidence incredibly annoying at times, I will give full credit to the show for it's thoughtful (and fairly accurate) depiction of baseball and the kids who play it.

Not really. I just thought it was mostly done for comedic effect - how he's all awed that Tajima was the clean-up hitter, but Tajima thinks he has weird eyes.

Anyway, I really loved the anime adaptation of the series. *_* I'd love to see another season, but I'm fairly satisfied with these twenty-five episodes. Any chance Central Anime will be subbing the extra episode about Musashino? (I'm thinking yes, but who knows.

) ;D Great job, by the way! I was extremely pleased to see the entire series subbed. This series just made me "awww" all the way through. I love seeing the emotional aspect! It's also kind of refreshing to see games that don't always involve handicaps like injuries. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it comes up since it's a genuine problem. Oh, and a virtually perfect player whose height prevents him from showing his all. Go Tajima!

My favorite character is probably Mihashi, but I like pretty much everyone in the series. Yes, even Haruna to an extent since I read the chapter equivalent of episode 26.

I'm not a sporty person by nature or anything, so seeing Mihashi genuinely love baseball and work hard to make up for his many imperfections is so heartwarming. I can understand why people would find Mihashi annoying (because man, I know I certainly want to see him acknowledge his worth as a pitcher and as a person), but I consider him to be someone I can easily relate to. It's also kind of interesting that he doesn't seem to be thinking about being a pro or anything and just plays baseball because he loves it. I really admire him for being "selfish" and staying on the mound. It'd be so much easier for him to quit, especially when you consider how it was for him at Mihoshi. But no, he keeps playing regardless. I wish I had that kind of courage.

I imagine it's highly stressful to be a pitcher since you're almost completely responsible for defense. Lots of pressure. It shouldn't be the case since the rest of the team is backing you up, but it's still pretty scary since you "single handedly could've prevented it." Thanks to Nishiura, Mihashi is finally able to relax a bit and leave it up to his teammates. I don't think he's completely over his "no good pitcher" mentality yet, but he's certainly lightening up. It's great that all the characters came to that particular school. Mihashi wouldn't have discovered another side to baseball otherwise.

These teams really seem to have strong bonds. I'd like to see more about their "non-baseball" days! I can see why people say clubs help you socialize and make friends. Though honestly, I think it'd be hard to find anyone to converse with if you're just in it casually as opposed to being passionate, hahaha. I wish I was a part of something like that... How inspiring! I watch MAJOR and have read other sports manga (I really love Slam Dunk!), but I don't think I've ever felt this way. Hmm...Whistle! might be fairly close in that regard, now that I remember it. Anyway, I guess it's because of how realistic things are handled. No one has special crazy abilities like in Prince of Tennis, not that it's a good comparison since it's mostly single matches! In Oofuri, teamwork is absolutely essential. Other stories say this as well, but we often have one character who carries the entire team so teamwork isn't as much of a priority until the later part of the game. Here it's everyone all the way through. That's what I find so great about Tajima being the way he is. He's kind of a symbol that way since he can't make home runs without help. Yes, with teamwork, you can do some amazing things~

Wow, no way... The animation in the episodes are just incredible and the soundtrack actually got BETTER!

I will always love Princess Nine as the baseball series for me, but Ookiku is just ridiculous with the whole baseball aspect.

I definitely can't get enough with just these. Hopefully one day there'll be enough manga chapters for there to be another season.

This show definitely joins my personal pantheon of sports anime greats. Easily.

With this, Major and my Mets returning, it's a great time to be a baseball fan.

I've registered on the forums just to express my ridiculous love for Oofuri! Man, I love this series! Thanks again to Central Anime for being so hot diggity fast! They just released the last couple of eps and I've already watched them 4 times in a row...there's something wrong with me...I don't seem to get sick of it...

I've always liked sporty anime, with Slam Dunk and Hajime no Ippo in my top ten anime (of all time, not just sports) and now Oofuri has staked a place in my heart right up there with those two. Does anyone else share this love, enough to put in your top 10?

Ah, but now the anime's ended I'm descending into inevitable sadness. The manga's not much further on and even when there will be enough material I doubt a second anime series would get made. It's not popular enough, right? And it just feels too far in the distance, everyone would've forgotten this first series by then. I mean, they never even animated the rest of Slam Dunk. Glum.

Oh well, will just have to re-watch this series to death. And wait patiently for the manga (though I think the anime was way better)... (And read doujinshi, ahem, of the fujoshi nature...)

I have to confess, that wasn't the result I expected - I thought Tousei would win, and the good guys would learn a lesson from it. But Nishiura pulled it out - on great defense, no less. They did a great job drawing the kids from Tousei as full-fledged human beings and not stereotypes, so it was impossible not to feel sorry for them at the end (these are still just boys, after all). Especially their catcher, who was a great character. I've said it before, but this story really has a feel for what teenaged males are like - what drives them, motivates and scares them. The way a couple of years of difference in age can seem like a lifetime at that stage, the tumult of emotions cascading through you at tense moments, the stupid things you find funny. One gets a sense this is a manga/anime that really likes these characters - they're not just plot devices or pat stereotypes or objects for female manipulation, but real teenagers with all their flaws but ultimately good kids. It's well-done.

Spoiler for Episode 24: The one thing I liked the best though, was how Tousei wasn't the "evil opponent school" who would ultimately resort to underhanded tactics to win or anything ridiculous like that. I have to admit I felt bad for Junta at the end when he broke down and apologized for not doing enough, and couldn't help but admire Kawai for being a great captain and doing his best to support his pitcher, even in the end. The reserve catcher trying to ask Tajima all those questions was hilarious. To be honest, they could have made this show about the boys from Tousei, and it would be just as good. To me, that's a sign they're doing something right.
