Anime Mirai/Young Animator Training Project 2013

I know a couple of these titles had their own threads but I figured since neither were that active I might as well start a general Anime Mirai thread.

So here's a reminder from ANN about what Anime Mirai is

Quote:
the Japan Animation Creators Association (JAniCA) receives money from the Japanese government's Agency for Cultural Affairs, and it distributes most of those funds to studios who will train young animators on-the-job
Or basicly, the japanese government funds 4 anime shorts and in exchange the studios must use young animators (the directors however can be veterans)

So,18 studios submitted projects this year and here are the 4 that got awarded the funds:

Studio: Gonzo
Anime: Ryo

I'm looking forward to all of them. They all sound quite interesting.
Madhouse is Madhouse and it's nice to see them in projects like this even after the NTV takeover.
Gonzo is trying to get back into things after heir financial troubles.
Looking forward to Trigger's first "real" project.
And last but not least ZEXCS doesn't exactly have a prestigious history but lately they've been diversifying their projects, they did a shoujo manga adaptation last fall with Sukitte ii na yo and have got Aku no Hana coming up this spring. That's why I'm intrigued by their project here.

Last years Anime Mirai was kinda aimed at a younger audience imo. I'm glad to see this year is more mature. I can't wait to watch it.

I'm pretty sure they showed a segment of Dead Billards in the latest Anime Mirai trailer. I'll check and see if I can find. I think it was also posted in the Dead Billards thread.

Am looking forward to these as always. I wonder if they'll ever make anything as strong as Ojii-san no Lamp but this year really does look promising.

It's looking quite good.

I know they all air in march in theatres but when will they become available for the rest of us?

Aruvu Rezuru has a raw online already. I don't know if it's okay to post it here. If you want to watch it raw (mediocre quality) I could PM you with a link.

I think I'm going to have a blast watching this one as well.

edit: And from an interview on a french website folks at studio trigger have said that if Little Witch Academia is successful enough (commercially I suppose) they'd consider doing a TV show since they have a lot of other story ideas that they didn't have time to use in this OVA

Yum. Mirai is showing a lot of promising projects, and Little Witch Academia is the juiciest of the lot. Apparently, they're putting in a lot more animation frames than a ~30 minute work would warrant.

All four Anime Mirai 2013 projects will be distributed by Aniplex and sold on a single blu-ray disc at Anime Contents Expo for 3800 yen. The catch? There's only 1000 units of it being made.

According to ANN Death Billards will be broadcast on March 18th and Ryo on March 25th

Looks like we'll have to wait for BDrips for little witch academia though.

Death Billiards and Ryo are broadcasting on YTV on the MANPA programming slot. Every year for the Anime Mirai project, YTV will broadcast two of the shorts, and MBS will broadcast another two, while Animax broadcasts all 4 since they're a pay channel. This year Animax's broadcast for the 4 shorts are in April (with LWA being the last one on April 26). it's very likely MBS will be broadcasting LWA as well, but currently they have not announced anything yet.

The BDs are being sold at Anime Contents Expo at the end of this month, so I guess it'll depend on whether MBS airs the other two shorts before then.

bastek66 you might not want to embed that video there. It's not a PV, it's basically a major spoiler scene from the later part of the short.

Spoiler for LWA:

That was really great. Like you say, the visual expression was at full-force for the 25 minutes. I watched it RAW the first time, and it's amazing how well the storyboard and animation convey the characters and situations without the need for understanding any of the dialogue. The short is so transparent in its acting and FX you just can't help but love it.

Props to Yoh Yoshinari and the animators who worked on this! Now waiting until I can see Death Billiards...

The opening moments of LWA had me seriously believe that there was SOME kind of inspiration from Tweeny Witches/Mahou Shoujo Tai Arisu. The whole "riding the broomstick like a surfboard" and the "believing in magic", which was Alice's main shtick throughout that series, kind of sealed the deal, even though one can consider those common 'cool witch' tropes. The short broomriding teacher looked alot like Eve(short, pigtails wrapped as bulbs) too.

Anyway, the story was entertaining and the production values were superb =03. The utilization of magic and magical beings was fairly interesting as well. Most important of all, the show was just plain fun =03. I hope this will actually get a series, it certainly was entertaining enough for me to deserve one.

Spoiler for just in case:

Little Witch Academia was fantastic. Im highly impressed with what Trigger did and wished this was a series instead of a special.
