Not explicitly confirmed, but the best plausible theory.

From what I remember

Chifuyu PROBABLY did pilot the White Knight (The first known IS). This is also not confirmed.
IS being piloted by women, is indeed an unintentional side effect
Tabane is a lopsided individual. She is a social retard that has no interest in others aside from Chifuyu, her brother and her own sister.
Tabane herself DOES NOT know why Ichika can react to an IS (at least in the beginning). She did indeed arrange for Ichika to meet again with Houki, but IIRC she was planning to fake him being an IS pilot. She intended to make his IS remotely piloted, but somehow he managed to react to it himself.

There is something special about Ichika and that's why various parties want to get their hands on him.

Yeah I hate to dash everyone's hopes about Ichika's Masta Playa skills but while he does have a certain charm to him. He doesn't kiss other girls willy nilly, but he is less of a milquetoast than other male leads

The IS however is somewhat true, given Tabane's rabbit ears.

What happened was the unknown IS(forget the name) decide to come and disrupt the fight between Ichika and Rin. At first, they can't hit the enemy and the enemy have the advantage, but Ichika quickly perceived that the enemy movement is machine-like and most likely it's an unmanned-IS. Knowing that, Ichika can now use his full power weapon to hit the enemy. To deal with the enemy's speed, Ichika ask Rin to shoot at the enemy IS using full power, but just before Rin use her weapon, Houki comes in to the arena. With Houki being targeted by enemy's IS, Ichika hurriedly execute his plan stands between Rin and the enemy and use Rin's weapon energy to help accelerate his IS(he use the energy gotten from the hit to propel his movement). He manage to hit the enemy and destroy a part of it's body, but the enemy can still move. It turns out this is not the end of Ichika's plan. He already know Cecilia is already preparing to snipe the enemy and try to distract it's movement so Cecilia can get a clean shot at the enemy.

After being shot, the enemy stop moving for a while. But when Ichika tries to relax, the enemy starts moving again and defeats Ichika's IS and activates his IS' absolute defense

Well, between my bad choice of word in the fight summary, I suggest you wait for a week instead and watch the fight in the anime XD. I'll try to start writing volume 6 chapter 3 summary tomorrow XD

Ichika doesn't have a long range weapon, only CQ weapon, just like how Cecilia doesn't have a CQ weapon. Houki use his two sword for both long range and short range weapon(I'm kinda sketchy on the details, but her sword can create a projectile type attack IIRC). Charlotte is the most versatile between them since she can use her rapid-switch skill to change weapon in a very short time(I kinda forget what weapon she had since she brings a lot, but IIRC she has a shotgun one too, and definitely a normal gun variant).

About the usage of Rin's attack, sorry I kinda mis-translate it. It's actually a kind of move for IS user called "Ignition Boost". By releasing a huge power from the thruster in the back wing of the IS, the inner part of the IS will accumulate the reaction force from the energy release and use it to move explosively in a short time. What Ichika does is instead of using the energy from his IS, he take Rin's attack from the back to achieve the same effect as Iginition Boost skill.

The first one is definitely false. Cecilia falls asleep while being massaged by Ichika(even Chifuyu noted that Ichika's massaging ability is genius level :P), and Charlotte come into the bath with Ichika to talk about something serious(about how she decide to stay in the IS academy IIRC), and Ichika, too embarrassed about it, get out quickly soon after Charlotte finish talking.

The second one, is also false. The bunny ear is just that, an accessories. She's a mystery all right, but she's not insane except for the part that she doesn't care about any other person beside Chifuyu, Ichika, and Houki.

Judging from the current pace, only 1/2 of Vol.1 is over and it took 2 episodes to deal with that. (And still it suffered a little from lack of time to explain all the background information)

If the latter half also takes 2 episodes, then it might turn out to be 4 episodes per volume, which would leave no room for Vol.4 contents

We start the chapter being trust suddenly into a heated battle, not using IS, but a tennis match :P. "Ichika borrowing" plan by Tatenashi is finally executed, and Tennis club have the luck to borrow him first. It turns out Cecilia has been bragging about how good Ichika's massage is and the club members decide to do a tournament to get the right of being massaged by Ichika. In the end, Cecilia wins the tournament. After the match, Ichika wipe Cecilia's face by her request since she's too tired to do that(an excuse IMO :P). Seeing that, the other club members also wants to be wiped by Ichika, but not on that face. They want him to wipe their back at the changing room(the club member said it's okay since they're wearing sports bra :P), but our shy protagonist run from that by saying that it's not in the contract.

At night, Cecilia is happily choosing which underwear to use before being massaged by Ichika. She remember Chelsea's advice that wearing an underwear that is too gaudy will give the opposite result(i.e drive the boy away). She even thought about not wearing any underwear at all, but decide against it. After spending around 30 minutes choosing what to wear, she goes to Ichika's room to get massaged. They talk while Ichika's massaging her. and she told him that she do modeling as part of the representative candidate job. Halfway through the massage, Ichika starts to become bold and ask to touch Cecilia's hair by whispering direct to her ear. Even bolder, he ask if he can touch it directly(the novel doesn't explicitly state this due to the Japanese language doesn't have to put an object on a sentence, but it's heavily implied that it's Cecilia chest). But suddenly, Ichika can even answer Cecilia's question that she only thought in her mind, and Chelsea, who's supposed to be in England starts to appear. It's by this point that Cecilia realize that she's dreaming it all.

Cecilia wake up from the dream, but her head is still fuzzy when she tries to remember from which part does the dream start. She notice Ichika sleeping on the other bed, and she realize that she falls asleep in the middle of the massage. She then declare in her mind that she will make Ichika fall for her for sure(while making a gun gesture using his hand and said "Bang")

The next morning, Rin and Charlotte saw Cecilia come out of Ichika's room using a pajama. Cecilia even add fuel into the fire by answering ambiguously when Rin and Chal ask what did they do in Ichika's room. Ichika quickly calm the situation though by saying that Cecilia fall asleep in his room while he's doing a massage for her, which in turn upset Ichika. Rin and Chal quickly understand the situation, but not Houki and Laura. They get really mad about this and Laura starts to say that this night she's the one that gonna be sleeping in his room. The other starts to say the same too, but Chifuyu starts to get mad at the commotion they're making and give a punishment for Cecilia and Ichika.

I'll finish the summary tomorrow since this seems like a good place to stop for now ^^.

so chemical isnt too far away. i doubt a nuke since if you are NEAR the blast, then you will be experiencing blast, radiation, and some laws of physics (sorry but didnt take it)
