I originally thought this was a pretty good episode, and was happy to see new characters and a #@$(^#( badass new OP.. Now, I've re-watched 4 times .. I guess I was really craving to see the new FMA..

Gorgeous OP, admttedly, but I don't think it's quite to the level of the first series' "Rewrite". That was the perfect storm of great OP and great song, and while the new OP may have "Rewrite" beaten on visuals, it's definitely lacking in the music department.

I kinda thought so too at first, but after rewatching the OP so many times I must say the song has grown on me. I now like it quite a bit, so overall this has beaten Rewrite has my favorite FMA OP ever. Partially because in terms of animation Hologram has some of the coolest moments in the FMA story in it while Rewrite just had random stuff and fights that never really materialized.

As one who hasn't read the manga, this is the point of deviation that I've been waiting for. New characters, a new story... the whole series is new again to me.
Moreover, I'm also glad that my suspicions regarding the narrator's voice from the first OP have been confirmed. I guessed that voice was suspiciously distinct enough that is had to belong to someone significant in the story. It'll be interesting to see how the events will unfold now. |

I can't wait for the time, in a few episodes, when the people who saw only the first series will discover the admittedly worst act that Scar ever did... that should surprise them I think. |

I just recently had the chance to watch this episode on Animax-Asia. I glad to see the Xing characters from the manga animated even though the little girl was introduced differently.
BTW folks, according to the subtitles i saw on animax, Xing Alchemy is called "Alkahestry". I think the name fits well in English translation since according to wikipedia, "Alkahest was much sought after by alchemists for what they thought would be its invaluable medicinal qualities". The name sounds more better than "Rentanjutsu". PS, the racist slur "Slint Eyes" is still there in Animax-Asia subs which i find funny since Animax-Asia HQ is located in Singapore.

Wow, I must really be the odd-one out in this fandom...
Because I honestly did not think the 'Rewrite' opening on the first series was that great. I didn't like the song at all. Visuals were nice, in a way, but the song itself didn't impress me. Now 'Undo', THAT impressed me. THAT song was an awesome opening and I loved its visuals the most. |
