I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to nominate their favorite/best anime over the past week. Kyomi has been in contact with me and he is indeed alive. Unfortunately, he is also too busy to work on the awards this year, so I will be finishing the process. He will however be returning in the future.

The top four nominees moved on to the finals, unless there was tie for fourth place. As stated in the nomination rules, I counted nominations as the posts were made, so late edits may not have been included. The nominees are listed in alphabetical order.

It would be great if someone with graphic design talents would like to volunteer to make the banners for the winners. They will be pretty sad if I do it.

-To participate in the voting, you must have registered prior to December 2009.

-Votes must be cast before January 20th 23:59 EST (GMT - 5). I will post announcing the end of the voting period.

-{Q} Villain: Beatrice (Umineko no Naku Koro Ni) (There were two reasons you watched this show, if at all, regardless of whether you thought it was good or not - 1. Beatrice always won the game regardess of the outcome because she's Beatroll. 2. Her torment of Battler. I don't think this show is that good at all but Beatrice is just such a laugh it doesn't really matter.)

-{R} Worst Character: Shirai Kuroko (Toaru Majutsu no Index) (Hard choice, actually. But one thing made the difference - BiriBiri. You either like it or you don't. I don't. Excessive tears, default routes and obligatory shoujo male bastards can't compare to that.)

This year won't be particularly different than the last one to me: Kara no Kyoukai is steamrolling completely

comment: if it wasn't for KnK, I guess it would have been Canaan. The other choices didn't impress me as much, especially Phantom with such a sluggish pace and uneven animation.

-{B} Adventure/Fantasy: Spice and Wolf II
comment: it is rather a "default choice" for me I guess... aside of Tiara, I didn't watch the others and frankly, Tiara was quite mediocre for its storytelling. Wasted potential and budget.

-{C} Mecha/SciFi: Casshern Sins
comment: I'm usually not a retro lover, but Casshern Sins was quite impressive in term of animation but more especially: it is stylish. The plot wasn't mindblowing, but it was effective nevertheless.

-{D} Mystery/Horror: none
comment: This category is really not good for me. Bakemonogatari is basically for me like XXXholic: a story touching a lot of the japanese folklore and occult stuff, however, it didn't have much of a mystery nor "horror" so to speak. Higashi is really not what I can consider as mystery either: it is more like a manhunt (so thriller at best). Kara no Kyoukai might have some "mystery" vibes, but not really inducing a "what is really going on" and so forth.
Umineko "should" be the only proper choice to me, but the adaptation was a giant failure, destroying the mood more than once, and making some mystery elements dull or unsolvable (lack of clues, lack of red truth etc). Hence, none of theses series "deserve" this category for me.

-{E} Comedy: Sora no Otoshimono
comment: hard choice. Seitokai was a treat for me, but it often had an erratic pace and recycled some jokes a bit too much at times. Sora, OTOH was rather the fresh stuff, surprisingly overcoming the usual fanservice harem series spree we usually have.

-{F} Romance: CLANNAD After Story
comment: Clannad had probably the most "complete" content regarding romance. Interactions, progression in many aspects in the relationship and so forth. It is more like a default choice to me, especially that for me, Bakemonogatari and Toradora just "had romance content", but were not driven by romance at all (even if toradora plot is based on this very premise).

comment: default choice as the rest didn't exactly pick my fancy.

-{H} Fanservice: Sora no Otoshimono
comment: well... there are some instances that SnO abuse the usual big bust, but I think it was more "intelligent" then usual, with a good dosis of comedy with it.

-{I} Sports/Game: One Outs
comment: Saki was very entertaining, to the point I started playing Mahjong because of this. However, the series lacked of real "suspense" because of the ridiculous "moves"... the usual plot armor (I mean, having a full hand ready for a Rinshan Kaihou etc... yeah right). Meanwhile, One Outs was more crafty in the tricks etc, though I will admit some points were tad silly (especially Touya's team mates IQ...)

comment: probably some bias because of the VN, but the After Story section of Clannad was just a rollercoaster in term of emotions, hitting a lot of buttons. Higashi no eden had a lot of potential, but it was wasted (for me) with so many sidetracking elements, and more importantly: plot crumbling over time (20.000 naked neets and whatever...). Meanwhile, Tokyo Magnitude just bored me to tears that I couldn't even go past Episode 2.

-{N} OVA: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei
comment: although Higurashi Rei had a very questionable execution regarding the design (Kai > Rei for me) and setup (talking head in a bloody dark blue room for more than half an episode in Episode 4), it was without a doubt the most fulfilling OVA for its related franchise. SnH was nice, but again, it is a bit annoying that San and Nagasumi's relationship stay stand still (and because of San to boot)...

-{O} Male Character: Okazaki Tomoya (CLANNAD After Story)
comment: Tomoya, to me, is the male character that embodies the concept of "character development", going through several layers of a character psyche and growth. He isn't particularly "kick ass", "smart" or whatever a protagonist has as a trump card. He is basically "human" to its strict sense, and the flaws but also redeemable actions as a follow up are what impressed me in his character scripting.

-{P} Female Character: Beatrice (Umineko no Naku Koro ni)
comment: even though Umineko was badly adapted, Beatrice kept essentially all of her quirks, depths and several layers. She was interesting in the sense that she fills more roles than just being the "antagonist" and with few clues around, it is noticeable how all sides shown thorough the 26 episodes are indeed the very same person.

-{Q} Villain: Beatrice (Umineko no Naku Koro ni)
comment: no matter what, a "true" villain in my eyes is a character that does everything to makes things "bad" to its truest sense. Of course, Beatrice is more than a simple villain, but it is hard to not admit that her shrill laughters, provocations and "evil" enjoyment are filling the bill to the get go.

-{R} Worst Character: Minase Yuuka (11 eyes)
comment: I almost wanted to put Kuroko just for her abominable voice, but Yuuka was prolly the worst character of the year, and that for a long time.
But the idea isn't because of the character itself, but how the scripters decide to apply Murphy's law to the extreme: anything can go wrong WILL go wrong, which Yuuka filled it perfectly.
Yandere isn't even the issue, it is how actions and behavior are beyond lunatic insanity. And that's even more annoying when you know the VN version was not even close to this horrific result.
