Well... did you ever have an extremely attractive girl you're not in love with aggressively coming at you physically? I can understand why Eita reacted so "frozen".
Spoiler for Comparison to the manga/novel:

Masuzu on the other hand feels challenged by Chiwa. She knows that Chiwa is in love with Eita, and her pride doesn't allow her to lose her grip on him, since she considers herself to be the better pick for him. Even though she isn't actually interested in a romance at all - yet. It's a matter of defending your terrain, and she KNOWS that Eita is affected by her beauty. So she's using the assets she has.

Hmm, makes sense. Especially after how Eita explained about Chiwa to Masuzu. Masuzu probably knew about Chiwa's affection to Eita since the second episode I suppose? This whole thing is why I actually do like this anime. Instead of playing the oblivious harem I'm far too used to. They actually do have some things going on.

Well, it is a comfort that Princess of Evil wasn't too happy either.

Out of curiosity, is this show borrowing from Chuunibyou, or is it the other way around, or is there some earlier Black Flame & secret notebook meme they are both feeding on?

I don't think either show is necessarily borrowing off each other as much as they're borrowing off a (internet) documented social phenomenon in Japan.

^ Yeah, I think I agree with Midonin here. The Chuu2 syndrome in Chuunibyou and OreShura are just "raw materials" to be used in a story. If the chuu2 syndrome in Chuunibyou is used as a catalyst for a group of people to gather and bond, in OreShura the syndrome is used for a "forced" (aka. blackmail) romance between two characters.

IIRC, Chuunibyou (in terms of the LNs) came AFTER OreShura, so it would technically be Chuunibyou borrowing from it, lol.

^ Hmm...now that's interesting. I'd like to hear more. How can you be so sure that Chuunibyou's author borrowing the chuu2 syndrome directly from OreShura LN instead of the actual documented syndrome? Is OreShura LN really that popular that other authors will directly refer to it when they talk about chuu2 syndrome?

I doubt it was intended as some sort of a accusatory statement, just that "if one work were said to be copying the other, the work that came later would have to be copying the one that came first". But I also agree with Midonin that it's much more likely that they're both just playing off of the same base external elements, rather than each other.

For the life of me, I've absolutely no ideas why I'm enjoying this show as much as I am. But sweeping statements I can make: The directing works great, the relationship they've set up oozes potential for drama, and the characters (especially Chiwa in 2 and 3) just have so much emotional honesty to them.

But I've gotta say after watching these 3 episodes, one of the things that's really holding this show back from achieving its potential IMO is Eita's role as the archtypical dense lead. I swear, Chiwa basically scream/wails in his face that her love was more than familial (a scene that really had some emotional heft going for it) yet Eita ruins all that with his bland "Why so mad?" response instead of picking up on the obvious hints. Sometimes I even think it's more denial than denseness. But thanks to this, there's so much potential for drama in the narrative that just isn't capitalized. (or hasn't been yet. I'll avoid making judgements at this juncture.)

My question to anyone who've read the novels, does in get better in this regard?

This is a question that you should ask in the novel thread, as spoilers aren't permitted here. Or people can send you answers via PM.

There was a thing bothering me since ep1, but I couldn't really tell what it was until now.
The anime looks too white. Like, there's this layer of white over the entire thing that makes it a bit hard on the eye to watch.
I'd really like it if they were to get this of it in the BDs.

I don't think it's a defect or an error or anything like that, just part of the art style for the franchise. You can see the same thing on the official website -- everything looks a bit desaturated and brightened (almost pastel colours). I think they're just trying to emulate the art style from the original light novels (since the covers of those have the same look).

I do think it takes a bit of adjusting to, but I also appreciate that they're trying to make it a look a bit different from everything else.

Ah, I enjoyed how that little acting plan backfired. Eita did really well in supporting Chiwa during that scene. Even when I first read that scene in the manga version, it was kinda satisfying for someone in Chiwa's camp like me.

Also, her seiyuu is doing great. I've gotten used to her voice earlier than I expected to with that performance. Loved the soft piano music playing during the dramatic parts of the "celebration" scene. Being seen as family by someone you have romantic love for is even worse than being in the friendzone, I'd say. I get how she felt in that scene.

See, Chiwa was Eita's inspiration to work so hard to try to become a doctor. Look at how far he's gotten with that goal in mind. He's the top student in school now.

This anime provides laugh on it that I consider reading the translated manga. Some of Chiwa's scene was shafted but still the tears of childhood friend. its a good episode but seriously I din't notice that its a flashback because the transition of that scene is like a transition from day to day scene. That part confuse me a bit but then again when I saw Chiwa injured that just occurred to me that its the past.

I was not sure if i was actually going to make time to watch this but i sat down last night since i had not read the manga but with a few hours to kill for once and checked it out. I was pleasantly surprised and it managed to hold my interest quite thoroughly. I was impressed the sheer undaunted bitchness yet somehow cute extortion of Masuzu, i must admit i was impressed with her negotiating skills although i did utter "what a bitch" several times lol. I laughed quite a bit and i think its been a while since iv seen a male lead that is anti-love or not chasing a female interest every episode and is more interested in studying than love. I'm looking forward to seeing how long he can resist lol.

I found the whole pantsu rant resulting in WWIII so damn funny. It came out of nowhere and he was so worked up i could see his head imploding lol. I guess it safe to say that this is going to make his life a mess his peaceful days are over as im sure he will bare the brunt of the rumors and jealousy from his male peers.

looks like a fun series

Third episode was funny once again

Eita is repossessed by his chuunibyou XD
Masuzus plan to get a good laugh at Chiwas cot backfires when Chiwa and Eita get applause for their performance
The school's most popular boy suddenly agrees to date her...

The flashback was much too sudden, without any transition. When she came along with her broken leg, I thought, "Oh no, when did she break her leg? What about her date now?"

Chu2koi is just a bland AURA fanfic anyway

Exclamation Ah

You have to admit: Eita's notebook is filled with some of the most embarassing crap imaginable. Great, great.

Makes me wonder even more why he didn't throw it in the trash. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be confronted by stuff from my past if it were that embarrassing. :P
