Wow as good as I thought the first 5 eps were, this one was just a mess...The fight choreography was extremely random (Other than the main fight)...There was almost a Micheal Bay-esque quality to the endless confusion of the battle filming (I'm shocked to say that)...The whole episode felt rushed and I just didn't get the sense it was building up to something special...
The final fight was still pretty cool..I enjoyed the hand to hand battle, but with the Girghe level elegance stripped from much of the battle it just felt like alot of raw meat out there... Really enjoyed the series despite the understanding they couldn't make it have a real conclusion, but even with some gritty visual goodies, I just kinda left this episode feeling it could have been a bit more special...

Well that made up for a lot of the bullshit from the previous 2 movies which i didn't like nearly as much as the first 3. Highlights included:
- No Nike - Cleo trying to be all cutesy Kana Hanazawa style and getting smacked in the face by the owl as if to say, "shut up and let the men do their thing now, there's no time for cutesiness, just go home". - Borcuse actually showing some sensible leadership instead of just being 100% black evil to the point where I question why anyone would ever follow the guy - The tense atmosphere as Binonten seems destined to fall and the only thing standing in the way is Baldr's team and the outmatched city garrison. - Hodr's continuing struggle to protect all those people from Borcuse advance. - Sigyun contributing the war effort again instead of just providing fanservice with Cleo and even putting herself in danger to get her weapon to Rygart. Also was it me or did her assistant look like a female version of Billy Katagiri from Gundam 00? - Colonel Io and his awesome sword Golem just mowing down everybody. I swear he did more damage than Borcuse himself. - The whole fight this episode really. Tons of gar moments and people stepping up huge for their respective side. - Rygart finally hardening up and dropping the holier than though act in order to kill Borcuse (albeit with a crazy super robot weapon and sheer dumb luck) who he just nows seems to have realized cannot be reasoned with and really needed to die in order for any of the fighting to stop. It's like he became the man that Souchiro Houshi's other famous holier than though character Kira Yamato never did. Shame it took till like the last movie and it had to come at the cost of Girghe's life and so many other of his comrades and after the capital had been penetrated and all but laid to waste. - Borcuse dying Dozle Zabi style - Getting to see Zess again after such a long time and finding out he's doing well - Narvi getting the softest correctional punch I think I've ever seen by Loggin in order to snap her out of her grief over True's death. Overall a really good movie. Probably the best in the series. It always helps to end on a strong note. |

^ Wow could we have felt more different about this ep K-Sama?
You didn't feel like this movie was a blur compared to most of the other entries? There was such impeccable fight-focus in this series until this final movie where it was more of a mishmash followed by a rush of revolving door-type attention to the battles...Everything was just so compressed, but at a rapid pace...The other episodes seem to thrive on glorifying the battle aesthetics as opposed to blitzing through them...The atmosphere in this movie just wasn't the same as most of the series IMO (Maybe it was because of the checklist-mentality with a wrap-up episode, but still)...

I also thought this movie out of any of them had the best focus and the best overall pacing as well. Not much felt out of place in the flow of this movie, whereas episode 04 in particular I found kept breaking up the flow of the episode with seemingly random cuts to what Sigyun and Cleo were doing, which really wasn't all that important in the grand scheme of things. Of cours the movie has the distinction of leaving the story feeling unfinished, but that was kind of a given. If I had one major issue with the movie it was the overall ridiculousness of the weapon Sigyun gave to Rygart in order to defeat Borcuse. It was an exciting weapon to see in action, but bloody ridiculous and inexplicable in why it has to be a giant throwing star on a tether. In fact it might come as a surprise (or perhaps not) but I felt like Sigyun was the weakest character by far in this story on the "good guys" side and perhaps even the whole movie series. She also has kind of a Mary Sue status going on. She just sits safe in her castle the whole movie safe and sound with all the confidence in the world, is physically attractive, is apparently some sort of prodigy that is far more skilled than any of the technicians and specialists working in Krisna's military R&D combined, is always in the right in just about every interaction/argument she has with any of the characters or at least seems to hold the upper hand in their conversations, is the source of everybody's affection, is able to magic this apparently perfect (albeit completely nonsensical) weapon into existence on short notice that singlehandedly saves her whole country along with Rygart and is able to kill the seemingly unbeatable General Borcuse, is able to put herself in danger at the end without any sort of harm coming to her at all....the list just goes on and on. She's just a little too perfect and flawless for me unlike pretty much every other single other character in the movie and it makes her kind of boring. This is part of the reason I've been very particular about the cutaways to her in previous movies, because when there's this big battle out in the middle of the wasteland with all these soldiers risking their lives I could care less what perfect little Sigyun is doing back at the castle with Miss Cleo and her 14 year-old giant rack. |

I almost think this story would have been better served in the long run as a TV series. Of course the battles wouldn't look nearly as pretty, but it'd give more time to flesh out the story and characters in a more satisfying manner and we'd probably be continuing on from the end of this movie and finishing up the story. As it is now I kind of have to agree with the sentiment that it feels like we've barely scratched the surface of a much more interesting story. Still a mostly satisfying experience for me though in spite of the series shortcomings. |

Finally someone also think Sygwen is poor character as me. The flaw you mention MrTerriorist, i say actually are more contributed to her status as Mary Sue, as tvtropes defining: "her "flaws" are obviously meant to be endearing". Think about it, if she and Hodz has happy marriage, will you, or Lygatto would even think of jumping between them ? No, their marriage has to be a fake with no love (at least from Sigwen's side) so the viewers can sympathy and actually want Lygatto to NTR his best friend. And if you think Hodz doesn't love Sigwen, think again, all his actions can easily be explained when you factor his need for the safety of Sigwen comes into play. His call for Lygatto to Binonten, his reason to refuse the surrender, his willing to go against his pacifist personality to fight Athens, his cold showing to Sigwen anytime they together.
Character development for a six movies compilation are poor, not that the manga better but at least the manga has some showing. (inb4 someone call me mangafaggot) We do see real character development, most obvious is Lygatto and Girge, Borcuse imo. While i do like the intensity of anime version, it absolutely show nothing about Lygatto's mature, same old shounen cliche of never give up and some luck with some stupid asspull weapon, the manga other hand, while short, it DELIVERS, a vicious Borcuse, a broken, grown up Lygatto engaged in a fight worthy of general level golem combats. In that we can see a Lygatto grow out of being a noob ride OP mech into a real cold blooded, mercy-be-damned killing machine push his machine to its limit. Borcuse final is nice touch though, the anime give his final moment to think about his daughter, a good moment ,sadly ruined by Lygatto's brother Lygatt (srsl what did you thinking father-person ??? ) jumps out of F*ing NOWHERE made the ending taste even worse. In the end, the characters is, just that, characters we see in the movie, and no real feeling attached (outside of few boners ) If anything this final movie good about, that the atmosphere it delivered, a desperate battle inside a capital. You can feel the tension in every corner (two certain damn kids excluded ) between the defenders and the attackers. The including of Sparta (while ignite another fit in me about how Girge w/should owned 99% of everyone ) really level up the battle, instead of seeing a few named pilots massacre goons, it give more feeling of a real battlefield, oh, and Bardz fight pretty good, not as much as his son and a certain border major, but its good |
