This seems interesting. However since it is licensed in the US it has dissapeared from the net and I would have liked to read a part of it. Now I will have to wait until the anime comes out to see if it is worth importing from the US.

There are places (sadly) that still have the scanlations uploaded and up for grabs.

I myself have bought the first volume after reading the scanlations. I think Viz did a pretty good job with it, but I do agree with the culture refrences are going to lose their humor when read by normal people. But honestly? It's still funny. I can loan it out to people in my anime club (who never bother looking outside the "mainstream" anime/manga) and they've enjoyed it a lot.

Anime version of Hayate better be done well. Hayate jumping on top of the car would be soo much better animated!

It hasnt completely disappeared. In fact, two groups are scanlating it. The manga is scanlated until volume 4 chapter 22 as of this post.

Actually, i don't think cultural difference is a big problem. The biggest problem is that you must have some knowledge background about ACG in order to know all its humor. It takes a lot (really a lot) of reference from other animes and mangas though you still able to get some of the humor without these background.

Also, i have never seen a harem(?) male lead which is so talent, robust, and moe(?).

lol, Hayate in trap mode has ranked 2nd in the polls, I gonna admire Hayate's talent in all manner of house work and such tastyness.

Still what troubles me are the translation by viz will lose most of the more subtle anime parodies/refrences that requires alot of rereading to be found that appears more and more later in the manga. At my 3rd rereading i'm still finding new things the are refrencing from. and what more amazing is the anime they parodied from are not all from well known nor even very old series (i.e. insane amount of Gun*** refs), like from the lastest chapters comment like "As easly as Gandafr controling Zero-sen". sure i found it easy to pick it up and found very funny when Hayate relate to housework and study combine, but i really wonder how much of that will be lost in translation, especially those speech habits like de arimasu etc.

If the anime and the English manga catches 2/3 of the orginal refs, it turn out great i belive.

Theres a lot of censoring in viz's english manga. I can't really make out what they're talking about because of those stupid black dots.
I'm looking forward on how Viz translates that joke in volume 2.

Is it wrong to say "sony" in a manga?

The censoring was done in the Japanese Manga too I belive (I know its in the Chinese fansubs too).

Since i remember in chapter 23 Hayate and Nagi had this conversation

Quote:
H: "By the way is it ok for Mushi-King to be written with out the blank out charater?"
N:"Yup, we have been given permisson, so we can use it to our hearts content"
So i guess naming copyrights need to following so we only get S*NY, still it make me wonder on Gun***

I got the four first tomes from somewhere in the net and man, I laughed hard. I instantly thought "I must buy it" and I included it along a good part of Discworld from Amazon. I should get my shipping in 6-36 laborable days , or 0-26 days because I ordered it ten days ago.
I have to ask, there was a line that almost threw me off my chair. Was this in the original version?

That line is quite accurate i think, Viz translated it as

"Your organs are belong to us"

Over all the Viz translation is surprisingly good for some reason, alot of original translation are kept, and not that much has been change from a glance. since all the omake and chara profiles has been kept with, the Bad end stuff and 4 panel mangas so overall its rather good

I've just read Vol.7 of this. Though plot development seems to still be semi-non existent, it's a whole lot of fun, even if somewhat less comical in the later volumes imo.

Though vol.7(( or at least first half of it )) is full of tsundere-goodness. :3

One question though...

Spoiler for vol.6~7?:

I haven't read it but perhaps its both, the mangaka does seem to be a Gundam fan.

Vol. 6 Kamen Cosplay is from petty cure i think, as a parody of Cure black and white i think.

I found later vol. gives better development overall, but the number of side chara is getting too much i think. since its quit are from screen time reduction of Tama and Klaus. will its fun all the way
