has anyone realised that the current tailed beasts highly resemble monsters from pokemon:

kyuubi = nine tales(evolves from vulpix)
Shukaku = Sandslash (just a lot bigger)

Spoiler for two more which havent appeared in the manga yet:

The two tails cat = Espeon (evolution from eevee)
the 3 tails = Tentacruel
I would say the remaining tailed beasts resemble Raiku, Entei or Suicine
(the 3 legendary dogs from pokemon gold i think).

Errr ... not sure about Shukaku or Sanbi, but both Nibi and Kyuubi are directly inspired from japanese folktales. (bakeneko for Nibi and good old foxes can grow up to 9 tails in japanese folklore).

I would go with some sort of giant snake or ...no! I would go for a falcon or eagle that has powers like impenitrable feathers (steal like), super hearing and seeing, and its flapping can tear apart anything.
