They set up the three main's really well. I enjoy the personalities of each. Hayate and Freyja have a natural bond and Mirage is beginning to show some understanding. The race is going to be hard to predict from this point on!

Episode 3 is actually the best episode for me so far in Delta, mainly due to having good pacing, and a nice balance between slice of life, characterization, action (Seeing those VF-1's is ;-; ), and music. Freyja's solo in the episode was particularly nice, and imo the best song in Delta so far. Also, Ranka may hold a special place in my heart among Macross characters, but Freyja's inching in her way there due to how adorable she is.
I also love the attention to detail they put in this episode, which really makes Barrette City feel alive and unique, instead of just being "generic sci-fi city #XXX". Not even Frontier had that kind of personality and character for its Island One despite having better technical presentation, due to having the traditional sci-fi lines just meshed with San Francisco, while here there's definitely that Aria-esque vibe to the city due to all the old-fashioned architecture surrounded by lots of water.

Heinz's choral-style singing reminds me of the Mayan Island songs more than it reminds me of Aimo.
Sealcat seemed to be doing Pugachev's Cobra rather than an Immelman. Chuck passes it while the cat maintains its position in its vertical plane. Hayate doesn't actually get behind Mirage with his own maneuver, and attacks from an intersecting vector instead. |

In the end, Heinz was a "draw a girl and call it a girl" characters
Spoiler:
There is no way i would've believed that it was a boy with a skirt. We still don't know why he's singing, maybe he's calling someone? The 1st part of this episode was a bit weak but everything got better in the 2nd half. I hope Hayate gets better later without relying too much on Freyja because right now he's weak without her and it might be a problem if he's facing someone alone. I liked the fact that they both lost at the end, they will probably make a great duo later like in the opening. I like the new song. |

Aww, this was again a cute episode. Although poor Hayate, every time he really starts to enjoy flying someone comes and shoots him down... But he has a really fun dynamics with Freyja so far. And they're both pretty fun as characters, Hayate has more personality now than I expected him to have, heh. I laughed when he called Freyja's laugh gross, I was just making a comment in my head about how hilariously weird she looks and sounds when she makes that face, but it seems it's intentional.
Btw it's this face and that "fuhihihi" laugh, it's adorable: Also, where can I get a sea cat? They're so adorable!! |
