Honolulu looks to ban bad odors on buses
Quote:
HONOLULU – Stinky city bus riders soon could get soaked. The Honolulu City Council is considering a bill that would impose up to a $500 fine and/or up to six months in jail for public transit passengers convicted of being too smelly.
With all due respect to the fine upstanding officials of Honolulu who are obviously well in touch with the public's opinions , how exactly does one determine something to be stinky? Does the bus driver poll his riders when he gets a complaint, and what happens if you have people disagreeing as well? How exactly are you going to enforce judgment in court with lawyers likely to get their clients to dress and clean up before the court appearances, which is already being done now for trials?

Yea, in addition to those 'How's my driving? Call XXXX-XXXX-XXXX' stickers there will be 'How's my BO? Call XXXX-XXXX-XXXX' stickers on the inside of the bus.

Too many complaints and BHAM, you get a fine and a hosing down from the city officials.

It would be more preferable that anyone who's skunky on the bus should be given a stick of deodorant and a slap on the wrist instead of a hose-down. Still, the last time I endured such a travesty was a foreign customer who literally filled up the small shop (where I worked once as a typist) with his stink.

Interestingly enough, our government doesn't give a sh*t about these when people complain about smelly youths returning home from army camps smelling of rotting mud despite having clean uniforms (the smell takes DAYS to wash off).

These cases are rare as the soldiers would usually take cab or share transport if one of them calls their parent for extraction. But occasionally we will have some retard writing to public forums or the local newspaper (with snapshots of the poor trooper on their camera phone) to complain about this.

Sometimes, we all do need to use our brains to find a logical reason to why people are behaving as such instead of blasting that poor soul head-on.

Pingpong lovers: China allows champ a girlfriend
AP

BEIJING – As the reigning table tennis world champion with two Olympic silver medals under his belt, China's Wang Hao almost had it all — except a girlfriend.

The 25-year-old was banned from dating until recently, when national team officials permitted his relationship with former national teammate, 23-year-old Peng Luyang, the government-owned China Daily reported Wednesday.

"Both of them are old enough and it's normal," the newspaper quoted Peng's coach Qiao Yunping as saying.

Strict control of athletes' personal lives is common in China's rigid state-run sporting system, which grooms young hopefuls in specialized sports schools around the country to become gold medalists, providing them with intensive training and free food, clothes and shelter.

Under the watchful eye of team officials, star athletes are often banned from dating or marrying until a certain age, restricted in endorsement contracts and sometimes have a large percentage of their winnings taken away.

Athletes who date without permission risk being punished. In 2004, Wang started dating another fellow national team player, Fan Ying, and officials kicked Fan off the national team. Media reports said Wang avoided punishment at the time because his world ranking was much higher than Fan's.

Generally, the concert will be for non-Muslims only. It sounds kind of strange..

Just several days ago, Malaysia was going to make the concert a "non-Muslim" only because it was sponsored by Guinness, a beer company. However, after protests from various groups of people that consist of both the religious and conservative of the Islamic world, the Malaysian government is going to lift the ban. Pretty surprising..
Hardly a surprise since IMO politicians here will do just about anything to keep the national/religious sovereignty intact. I won't bother talking about it since this is the kind of topic I'd rather stay away from.

Japan's next first lady anything but bland

Quote:
A strong believer in spiritualism, Hatoyama said in a TV appearance earlier this year she met U.S. actor Tom Cruise - in a previous life. She also claims that her soul has traveled to Venus on a UFO.
Quote:
"While my body was sleeping, I think my spirit flew on a triangular-shaped UFO to Venus," she said in the book called "Most Bizarre Things I've Encountered," according to an Internet bookstore bk1, which quoted the passage from the book.

"It was an extremely beautiful place and was very green," she said.
Somehow, this doesn't sound right at all...

Let's just assume this was completely made up by the press or that she has an odd sense of humor.

So much potential for jokes but none would be PC. Dammit.

I don't know who would be more scary at a high post of decision, her or Sarah Palin.

She also wants to make a Hollywood movie together with Tom Cruise, preferably "Pearl Harbor II - Attack of the Venusian Triangle UFOs".

It's all in her autobiography I'm ghostwriting at the moment.

Hmmm... guess the world will be having a real-life version of Haruhi as first lady. Makes sense too because the PM-to-be is also called "The Alien".

All right, Mrs. Hatoyama once worked as a waitress in a restaurant in San Franscisco when she met her future husband, who was then studying engineering at Stanford on his country's tab.

Plastic bags are the onboard restrooms
Quote:
MIAMI – Flying a Boeing 727 around the world might sound like a dream. But pilots for a Florida air cargo company claim their job is a nightmare that includes no sick pay, shrinking wages and no place to use the bathroom on flights but a plastic bag.

Sixty-two pilots and flight engineers for Fort Lauderdale-based Amerijet International Inc. went on strike on Aug. 27. Among their demands is flushable toilets on board. Their union has been trying to negotiate a new contract the past five years.
It's like flying old airplanes in a third-world country... Travelers, at least, there aren't anyone buying tickets to fly on their planes.

Mystery of Google's unexplained phenomenon doodle

Usually, the change of Google's logo reflects on some special event or day but this time, it is entirely a mystery to me. Perhaps, it has something to do with the release of District 9 but this doesn't seem to be the case. At the same time, it is also known that Japan's new first lady was abducted by aliens and taken to Venus while that multiple UFO sightings had occurred in Moscow this past week.

Someone Out There Loves Love Plus

Quote:
Why? Seems like he or she wanted to get all of the pre-order bonuses. Softmap bundled copies of Love Plus with postcards while Wondergoo tacked on a cushy mat. Each copy of Love Plus has a MSRP of 5,800 yen ($62) which brings the total up to 63,800 yen or $685. That’s a lot of love for Love Plus!
It seems that quite a number of people tend to purchase multiple copies of the same game every time one is released with different type of pre-order bonuses.

Goldman Sachs banker offers GBP500,000 to an escort for leaving her pensioner husband
Quote:
A millionaire banker offered an escort girl £500,000 to leave her pensioner husband, a court has heard.

Yann Samuelides, 35, a managing director of Goldman Sachs, became so infatuated with the Slovakian escort girl that he wanted to make her his wife.

And being a money man, he calculated that 28-year-old Alzbeta Holmokova was worth £500,000.
Leaving aside the sheer stupidity of this deal, I kind of want to know how exactly this Samuelides came up with the amount of money she is worth. Are we talking "present value" here, and what was his risk management strategy (aside from apparently threatening to kill himself)?

What are the odds of his losing his job soon given the PR flack being reported also?
