Umimachi Diary would be a nice choice as well -- fairly popular, and critically acclaimed. I could see it being done by the same team as Usagi Drops.

I read somewhere that Yoshida (the author) mentioned there has been talks of an adaptation. Not sure if animation or live-action though.

I'm a bit more biased however with Yoshida's Kisshou Tennyo, though that one's really old. I feel older women (who may or may not watch anime) which was the original target market for noitamina anyway would eat this up.

Those women are the target audience for Otona Joshi no Anime Time. Any indications how well that's doing? I haven't traced the origins of every noitaminA series, but other than Natsuyuki Rendezvous, and maybe Sakamichi no Apollon, I don't see many shows I would consider "josei" over the past few seasons.

About a quarter of noitaminA productions have been anime originals. Though it is riskier to produce an original show than an adaptation, noitaminA has done pretty well of late with series like Psycho-Pass and Tsuritama. Tsuritama averaged about 3,500 units per volume, while Psycho-Pass has averaged just under 9,000. Most of the latter were the more profitable Blu-rays as well. Personally I prefer original works because they usually have more conclusive endings and often tighter writing as well. A show like Tsuritama that was designed to begin and end in twelve episodes may often compare favorably to a similar-length adaptation of an ongoing story.

The 2nd NoitaminA show this summer is a re-airing of AnoHana

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...ilm-theme-song

I guess that gives me a excuse to rewatch Anohana: The Flower We Saw that Day.

I'll see if I can get a rewatch thread in the AnoHana forum. If you live in the U.S or Canada and are a Crunchyroll Premium Member(only the first 4 episodes are ad-supported), you can see all of that series there:

Ah. I had wondered if the late announcement meant one of the shows would be a repeat.
I guess as there's a movie coming out it'll be publicity for that.

Had been meaning to rewatch the show anyway!

I wonder what happened to noitaminA when it suddenly begans airing otaku pandering material in order to keep it alive and allows it to compete against other anime programming blocks airing in the same day but on different channels?

Which series are you talking about? Psycho-Pass 2 or Your Lie in April? The latter, though listed as shounen, seems like a plausible noitaminA entry, especially since "it won the award for Best Shōnen Manga at the 37th Kodansha Manga Awards." As for Psycho-Pass, I don't really see that as an "otaku-pandering" show at all unless this season is markedly different from the first.

Take a good look at this thread - it's still alive but we stopped talking about it. Glad they made Ping Pong tho.

I'm 100% sure that making depressing and grimdark anime is another form of otaku-pandering.

The only way you won't get otaku-pandering is when you take out all the chuu2 elements and make everything some drama/comedy/slice of life like a normal japanese drama.

So i'm not sure why you think Noitamina is some holy place since stuff like guilty crown exists...

What I'm talking about specifically is that the programming is slowly deviating from its intention by airing shows that can be aimed at younger audience with its visuals such as Guilty Crown, Black Rock Shooter, Robotics;Notes and Nanana's Buried Treasure (not to say there's no positive things to talk about these shows), which somehow drives people who formerly enjoyed the programming block (as in itself) losing their faith in the current time (a few of them can give a metaphorical "R.I.P" message to noitaminA from what I heard). The same thing worked for studios such as Gainax.

"Slowly deviating from"?

For the past four years, noitaminA has been a blending of "sci-fi shows aimed at otakus" (C, No. 6, Guilty Crown, Robotics;Notes, Psycho-Pass, etc...) and more classic noitaminA fare. That is the noitaminA identity now.

This current season is the perfect representation of that - With Psycho-Pass Season 2 (sci-fi show aimed at otakus), and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (classic noitaminA fare).

The original noitaminA isn't completely dead, but it now shares the stage with sci-fi anime.

Fuji is compiling a CD of noitaminA OP/ED songs and has asked fans to vote for their favorites: http://www.noitamina-fanbest.com/

Since that page annoyingly doesn't link to any of the songs themselves, those of us with failing memories might want to check out this list by an ANN contributor: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/...421273#4421273

I haven't made my choices yet, though I know "Allegro Cantabile," "Mononoke Dance," "Natsu no Hana," and "Sign of Love" will make the cut. That leaves me six more votes.

Voting ends on December 31st.

Get Egoist to cover Secret Base and call it a best-of album with a bonus track.

Not surprised to see Guilty Crown and Psycho-Pass sweep. They do kind of deserve it. The list does seem to be tilted very heavily towards late-period noitaminA, though.

Yeah, pretty predictable to get this completely filled with Guilty Crown and Psycho Pass tracks.

Anyway thanks for reminding me that this was a thing. Now I can put my pre-order in. It also looks like the first press will be coming bundled with a BluRay that contains the OP/ED videos for the songs which is nice*. That means folks can get the best parts of guilty crown

It also looks like it'll be 3 disks total with the 3rd disk containing the TV sized versions.

*at least that's what a certain retailer says
