I almost stopped watching after ep 19, but I'm glad I didn't, as ep 20 was great. The only problem is that damn side story thing. In the other episodes it was bad enough, but in this one it was just wrong. To end an episode with a scene like nemu collapsing is one thing, but to do it half way through and put random cat-headed people watching highlights from their past appearances just isn't right. Well as long as the main story is getting good, I shouldn't complain too much...

Curious that you'd actually 'almost stop' watching after ep.19, cuz it's only from ep.16 that the 'drama' really begins. (Personally I almost stopped a few times... around eps 5, 9, 10 14 or so... but 16 got me on the hook.


I definately agree with you that the side story really ticked me off, cuz the main story got me so involved that I didn't even realize that 16 minutes had already passed.

They'd better get rid of these side stories soon, cuz honestly I didn't like them much more than the music videos in the first 7? eps.

heh... I suppose I rant a lot too... but I really can't wait for ep.21
(and I wish some group would make a version that only includes the main plot, cuz my BT's really messed (1K/s) and a smaller filesize would be better. =D)

Okay why is everyone so down on the side storys?
In the beginning I thought they were neat since they gave more face time with each girl (you can never go wrong with that ). I got kinda tired of them when the eps were cliff hangers but since recently caught up with the series (looking forward to 21) I didn't care. I still like the side stories, they're really weird but interesting at the same time. How know that Moe-chan was so cute. That side story should have maked up with all the down sides of shortening the main plot. And who can forget the Miharu side story.

First post. Love of Da Capo presses through my laziness to actually register.
I'm enclosing the rest of my post in a spoiler so I don't have to be responsible for anything I might forget to inclose in one.

First of all, I've gotten a little annoyed with everyone bashing the side episodes. I love them to death. They may relate to the story towards the end. But even if they don't, they're valuable. These side episodes are a different sort of viewing. Similar to the Noh theatre in Japan, they're meant to be watched in a state of semi-consciousness. Time and physical matter are of little to no importance in these. You're meant to gain something from these side episodes that isn't handed to you in short, subtitled sentences spoken by scantily dressed girls blushing profusely. Anime isn't all about the fanservice and utter simplicity. There is beauty in that, too, I think (and largely that simplicity is part of Da Capo).

Anyway, I may have been a little too wordy there. The point is that side episodes aren't meant to be taken so much at face value. They're not even necessarily supposed to give you a better understanding of the story or characters (although I believe all of those that center on one girl are meant to develop that character through the Noh style I aforementioned). Without the side episodes, I would have a hard time seeing Da Capo as anything other than another too-many-girls-like-one-guy story. With them there, I feel like I'm watching something a little more... intellectually stimulating.

Characters.
First of all, I was taken by Yoriko at first sight. I love that girl, and I don't want her to go away.

I've read that Sakura finds a way to disenchant the sakura tree that grants all wishes made under it (probably to save Nemu from dying, because Nemu was getting in the way of the promise for Junichi to love Sakura under that tree). This will also disenchant the wish of Yoriko's master to have Yoriko be human. So Yoriko will be a cat again... WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Back to regular spoilers that those who've watched the show up to ep 20 will not have any problem with...

So anyway, I like Yoriko, but also I never really had any real hope that Junichi would hook up with her... it just wouldn't fit. Besides, Yoriko doesn't really want that either. Initially she wanted to hook her master up with Junichi and accidentally fell in love with him herself in the process (that should be obvious).
I have no problem with Junichi and Nemu being together. The extent of their being siblings was in their minds and their actions. Other than that, they're just girl and guy (who happen to be living under the same roof and still like each other which is all the more reason to think a relationship other than bro-sis should exist or would be successful). As for the anime, I don't know what will happen and am interested to see. If things don't turn out favorably, I'll just have to continue learning japanese, play the game, and avoid the hentai parts.

Someone said something earlier about Mako and Kotori liking Junichi and that that sorta faded away. Well, I'll tell you: The anime was made after the game, and in case you didn't know, you can basically choose to follow the story with any of the girls (many of which are not in the anime). So people who played the game and loved Kotori at first sight would try hard to beat the game (i.e. get Kotori in bed -_-) with her. [[side note about h-games: I don't like them. I don't think that someone who plays an h-game with the sole desire to have sex with them understands the emotion and hard work an artist/writer puts into his girl creations. In Da Capo's case, it seems to be an h-game that still has a wonderful story and interesting girls (not girls fooled by stupid phrases that any guy could cough up to get her to sleep with him). I wish it wasn't hentai. Dating simulations are supposed to make you feel like you're actually with the girl, a perfect rendition of a fantasy girl, but if you really feel like you're with them, would you ruin their purity and humility that way? And if you would, so early on? I just think it ruins a lot of things....]] Back to the subject. The game allowed you to choose a girl, and people became attached to one girl or another. Then they made the anime, and I guess they want to make all the gamers feel at home with the anime by making an episode or more of each girl with Junichi... animating the date with that girl that that gamer experienced. I think it's wonderful what they've done with it.
Recapping: the point of every girl liking him (but not necessarily having that as a central part of the story) is because the game allowed you to choose a girl, and the anime wanted to appeal to the gamers.

I don't see what Kotori sees in Junichi... although he's more reserved, he still gets the same perverted thoughts as the other guys around Kotori. *sigh...* girls... I'll never understand.

So anyway, I finished ep 20, read some stuff about the game, basically know what's going to happen on Sakura's end (see uber-spoiler), but the mystery remains. I need to learn Japanese faster so I can play the game.

I just watched episode 20 and I gotta say that there is something just downright disturbing about the whole love triangle thing. And I know you guys know exactly what it is. Both girls call him brother! Nemu says, "We are lovers, right brother?" and sakura also calls him big brother. Even if Nemu isn't blood relation, she was accepted as little sister and grew up with him in the same house. It would be different if she didn't keep calling him brother. Every time she starts a sentence its with oni san. She could at the very least call him by his first name. Or last name, however they do it. This triangle reeks of an episode of Jerry Springer.I would even be satisfied if she called him her second cousin twice removed. Its just when she says brother, incest springs to mind. Personally, I would either hook up with SAKURA or that nice red head girl. oR EVEN one of the green haired sisters.

That's an interesting take Eleutheria I never thought about that actually, but it doesn't really explain

the past relationship the catman had with Jyunichi and Sakura's grandmother. Nor does it explain Sakura's amazement at catching a glimpse of the catman's face when she was at the Soba shop.

I am also really enjoying the side stories as well. I find them to be very creative and they allow the creators to play around with stylistic ideas that they couldn't otherwise do.

I also really like the bizarreness of the series.

and why was he wearing a dress in that zoo episode?

I didn't realize that this series was based on a game and honestly I find it a bit odd but it doesn't take anything away from the series.

Question: does Jyunichi have any other magical powers other than making mochi appear out of thin air? (other than seeing dreams)

I know both are based on h-games but I was several series with my girlfriend like Kimi ga and was wondering, do either of those animes have nudity. If they do then my g/f won't watch them with me. I don't want to dl and then have her not watch em.

Da Capo so far as I seen doesn't have any kind of nudity. Popotan and the other hand has a lot of nudity mostly just the bath scenes. But nonetheless Popotan is a nice short little series with some very touching moments which I think shouldn't stop you and your girlfriend from not enjoying it if you could ignore the nude bath scenes.

As for Popotan don't worry theirs no hardcore sex or anything just really ecchi sometimes thats all. One of the characters does presumably have sex but they don't show any of it. If your girlfriend gets mad at the nude bath scenes blame it on me, I'll take the wrath

Well, that's from a Westerner's point of view. In Asian terms, "brother" is used loosely, as in you can call anyone older than you that, regardless if there is any relation or not to that person. It's a form of respect, rather than calling the person by his name, you call him "brother". Same thing applies with "sister". I used to call everyone that all the time when I was younger. No big deal.
