Don't put Kokoro Connect on the same boat as K-ON.

They might have same art style but totally different story approaches. If anything, it is very similar to Key works like Clannad and Kanon 2006.

I really hated the ending, to be honest. Considering that I thought this was going to be my favorite Kyoani series of all time from the first episode, it really let me down. For several reasons:

*Too many characters: I like the market people, I do. But there were so many unnecessary characters.

*Not enough market: The school scenes were dreadful for the most part, in my opinion.

*Not enough Kanna: Seriously! She was way more interesting than Midori, who got like 3 episodes with major screen time.

*Not enough Mochizou: By the end, I wondered what his character was even for. No development with Tamako at all or very much as a character. He's adorable though so I still love him to pieces. He was the only reason I finished the show.

*Let's save the plot for the last two episodes! It felt so rushed.

*Romance? What's that? I don't know why Kyoani even included Midori and Mochizou's feelings, to be honest. I don't know about everyone else, but, golly, I expected at least a little shippy moment in the last episode.

Final episode thoughts.....

Man this episode dragged on too much. It was good when the Prince (Mecha?/Mechya?) came in the intro, but overall Tamako just dragged it down for me, in the end it was ALL DAMN PREDICTABLE!. Good Mochizou giving Tamako her present, but still wants Tamako to have the decision which kinda makes sense in a way with his character. Dera going away but falling asleep and became Mochizou's present for Tamako, obvious Choi has the same mole Tamako has and has a crush on the Prince. While Midori is relieve my Tamako's decision. Decent Kanna and Shiori air time...that's about it. Elders? Bah....

Decent episode 5/10. If Senran Kagura had an anti-climatic boss fight, this episode of Tamako Market just kept dragging it all along with Tamako's flashbacks and words.

So, what exactly did Tamako do that you disliked? She's a simple, straightforward, dense girl. Yes, she was gonna stay at Bunny Mountain. (didn't see that coming) Yes, she wasn't gonna choose someone to marry/date/love. (totally didn't see that coming) Yes, Choi loves the prince. (if it took you until episode 12 to figure that out, you weren't paying much attention to Choi in the episodes she had a major appearance in, which was like 1/3 of the series) What exactly did you want Tamako to do differently? It's a slice of life. It's not supposed to surprise you with some amazing revelation. You're usually meant to take most things at face value and accept them for what they are.

Those "flashbacks and words" weren't dragging out the episode. They were basically the final speech that defined the theme of the show. And that theme is that "home is where the heart is." Even in the absence of her mother, the shopping district is Tamako's extended family, and she'd rather be a commoner than be royalty, because as nice as Choi and Mecha's island of.... Unnamed is, the history that her medal represents is more important. It was a moving speech.

I have no idea what this anime was trying to convey, honestly. I don't want to be that person that just barges in shouting "another show with cute girls doing pointlessly cute things, bah", and that is not what I'm saying here. However, KyoAni doesn't really give me a lot to work with...

When Tamako Market began, something made me want to like the show. It was cute, but not to the point of obnoxiousness (at least, not for my tastes). It had some pretty nice warm and fuzzy moments -- the episodes focusing on Shiori, Tamako's dad, and Anko being the highlights of the entire series, imo. It had side characters that were pretty unnecessary but likable enough. It also had a pretty nice soundtrack that lacked terribly annoying and zany tracks one might expect from a show with any comedy tones. I kept saying, hey, they may have something neat here.

But in the end, the series was just... I don't know. It feels too soft. Too open-ended. Almost like it's unfinished, or perhaps a fragment of something larger. There were too many things going on at once, too many things happening too fast (mainly due to all of the prince nonsense). The ending felt abrupt and awkward.

If the series had been longer, slower-paced, tried to focus more on the sentimental moments yet still retaining the cute and comedic air, developed its characters a little more, and tied up what I feel are some loose ends... Then it would've been a much, much more satisfying experience.

I'll give the series a 6/10.

What exactly do you hope developing between those two, I wonder? A couple that hook up because both can’t get the person they love? It might work between two certain characters in Shinsekai Yori, but there, the guy they were aiming for had to die a gruesome death first .

As for the ending, I wish Dera really left the shopping district since I think it’s kinda silly that he just came right back again after previously saying that serious farewell to Dai-Otosan. I think Dera's leaving at the end would be a perfect drama for the finale of this series.

Long speeches like that to me makes it boring and predictable where it's so obvious"It's a misunderstanding" because of the flower scent. Tamako's not dense as I see her, she wouldn't get mad on the previous episode because the people are pushing for her on what she wants, but she thinks she's being paired which she obviously doesn't want, because she knows she wants to be there in the market because she loves the people there.

And obviously Choi has a crush on the Prince, which is SO obvious when we first see Choi look at the prince(blushed) and then later episodes thinks and talks about.

I know it's a slice of life, but if they could have prevented that long dragging monologue it would have been alot better, here in the final episode they just let Tamako dodge the issue after school, insert long speech here, move forward and say sorry to the prince, then the prince says it's a misunderstanding because of the scent of the flowers. Back to being all friends.

It is great the show. All of them are friends in the end which is nice, but that long speech scene doesn't really get to me nor is in my fancy.

Final speeches like that drags episodes on my case where it becomes to predictable where I pause and I wanna hold Tamako's shoulder and say, I know ok I get it Tamako. It's obvious you love the town you are born and raised in where you lost a love one(Mom) and gained friends, it's a build up from the start which is good enough. The long wrap up of Tamako would have been better off with more interaction with her friends especially Mochizou.

I think they wanted to make a comedic end, making Dera the comic relief of the show, that no matter how serious he gets, it's still going to be a gag for him in the end.

*shrugs*

If we actually consider it seriously, I just know that it would have to take a lot for them to look at each other which is something that I'd actually like to see develop. In a strange way it would kinda remind me of Toradora! which is a personal favourite of mine. I'm just generally tired of romances where one of them is obviously in love and knows it and the other is too dense to realise it which is pretty much what the "romance" ends up boiling down to.

And hey, I like Mochizou. And I'm guessing the others that do will, like me, naturally come to the conclusion that Mochizou and Midori are the most down-to-earth male and female characters respectively, so it's only natural to want to ship the two characters on the same sanity plane.

I guess that's pretty much why I'm all for the MochizouxMidori ship (I mean aside from the obvious troll factor. XP).

Alot of characters in Tamako Market are relatable which is good for a slice of life anime.
It doesn't mean the ending here isn't that good, it doesn't mean it's a bad anime show, it's good, but like I said it lacks something that "magic touch". Shiori, Midori, Mochizou,Anko and hell even Tamako's Dad had their fair share of great episodes.

*shrugs* What is it with anime endings today anyways? Anways overall I rate it 7/10 Good anime to add to your watch list, nothing ground breaking, but the characters are relatable and focus character episodes are great and entertaining enough.

Half of the reaons, the bolded part being the most important reason, why I didn't like this anime. Kyoani, you could do so much better.

I like Midori and all, but Kanna is the best girl. Midori didn't deserve much development, but if she had confessed, well that would be a different story...

Not enough Mochizou! He rarely had screentime, and it seemed like he was just there for a (useless) love triangle. I am saying useless because there was no closure on it, though I'm sure Tamako would just say "I love both of you!"

Adding a plot all of a sudden during the last two episodes. What the fudge? If you want a plot, add it earlier.

And lastly, romance. As I stated earlier, the love triangle was useless. I mean, come on.

No season 2, please. I doubt there will be, though, because apparently not many people bought merchandise, so there's not enough funds.

Not quite bad, but not quite good either. Maybe a strong 6/10 or a weak 7/10 for me.

I've already mentioned it before, but the whole prince on the island plot line was probably the weakest link of the show. Or rather, anything resembling a "plot line" simply isn't apt for a show like this. As I'm sure many here would agree, this show is at its best when it portrays the tiny realizations and discoveries that come with living one's everyday life, and I feel it should have capitalized on that strength (Anko's episodes and the beach episode are particularly notable). While these last two episodes did have plenty of potential as a setting for Tamako's character to grow, I feel that it was underutilized to give way the insertion of even more esoteric elements into the plot and an underwhelming resolution to the conflict. I feel that having to balance both comedy and SoL elements worked against it in this case.

For people expecting any romance, I don't really understand. This was never a romance-focused series to begin with. For one thing, the beach episode clearly laid out Midori's feelings toward Tamako, so I never saw it going anywhere from there (not all forms of attraction have to include getting into an exclusive relationship). Mochizou is a different case. He definitely felt underdeveloped over the course of the series, so I never expected much from him to begin with.

Now, despite all my rants about all the crazy elements mixed in, Dera has become my favorite character beyond my initial expectations. For sure, I'd say that he's likely one of the more mature and insightful members of the cast. He could very well be the author's mouthpiece, but he has style that keeps him consistently entertaining.

Honestly, outside of the ending, which could have been handled much better (i.e. the "Prince's bride" plot line could have been handled without it turning into a "Shaggy Dog Story"), this series was rather decent for my tastes. On a scale of 10, it would be either a 7 or 7.5 IMO. As for some of the complaints that I hear about:

Quote:

Honestly, given how they are portrayed, I see the market people to be more like an "extended family" for Tamako. While there's definitely some characters that could've gotten more development time, they are pretty much going to end up being "supporting" characters to those that are around Tamako's age and Tamako's family.

Quote:
*Not enough market: The school scenes were dreadful for the most part, in my opinion.
I don't know about that. After all, I think some people would have loved to have seen more school-based scenes, given how little time Shiori has in the series.

Quote:

So true. Kanna is pretty much the "real star" of this show. As for why she hasn't received much focus like Midori, it's probably due to it being hard for her to write a "conflict" for her (as the two "Kanna-based" episodes revolve more around her putting together a haunted house and playing a straight guy to a dieting Dera).

Quote:
*Let's save the plot for the last two episodes! It felt so rushed.
I strongly disagree on this. While a lot of the episodes are of the "slice of life" variety, the show does try to remember the main plot throughout the show's run:

Ep. 1: Dera's arrival into the market;
Ep. 2: The members of the market become aware of the existence of the Prince.
Ep. 6-7: Episode 6 ends with the market learning about Choi arriving at the market, with the following episode (and part of episode 8) focusing on her getting
acquainted with the area.
Ep. 10: Choi notices the mole on Tamako for the first time, leading to her believing that she is the Prince that Dera was sent to look for.

Quote:

This goes with the big problem with the whole "Prince's bride" plot line: for this plot to work, Tamako needed to have some major character growth throughout the show before the big reveal that she may be the person that Dera was sent to look for. Instead, the show has Tamako depicted as someone who is pretty much oblivious to certain things (i.e. the romantic feelings for others) for most of the series. Makes you wonder if this would have been handled better if the show maintained the "mahou shoujo" concept that it was originally going to have.

Well, I wasn't very interested in Shiori, personally, but I definitely agree she didn't get enough screen time. What I was really referring to was the Baton Club scenes..I just didn't like them. All the episodes I liked didn't have much to do with the school.

As for the plot, yes, they didn't just drop it completely into those two episodes, but it could've been spaced more. In short, I just think the Prince should've had more screen time, if they wanted us to even feel that there was a chance of Tamako leaving.

Looking back, my criticisms were very subjective and biased, and I understand that others would disagree. lol I just had such high hopes for this series.

I liked the show at the start but then it turned in quiet a drag since nothing new was really done or discovered nor were the jokes that good anymore. It's like if they ran out of ideas. Even Dera's antics became less enjoyable.

The fact that Midori's and Mochizou's feelings were pushed to the side was not plausible either. Makes you wonder why creators even bothered with them, especially Midori's.

I'll have to settle on score 6 out of 10 here =/

If they ever have season 2, I hope they'll address some of the issues that were left out.
