I didn't think I would get drawn in by this one. I mean, ballet and motorbikes? Come on! However, the concept worked incredibly well. My only gripes are the contrived viewing angles so as to minimise the panchira possibilities, and the ugly characters. OK, non-moe is one thing, but honestly.

How is the characters ugly? I thought the designs are great considering the setting of stories. The original manga is seinen after all. A ballerina dancing on a robot is still sexy especially if she wear the white dress (like in the opening) |

Looking back at this thread I guess I am the only one that was only half taken in by this episode. Perhaps it's just that I prefer not to get ahead of myself, but I can't help but feel the concepts didn't work as well for me as others are claiming they did for them right out of the gate. Also I can't say I felt the animation was as godly as others are claiming it was either, the sakura petal scene notwithstanding. CG was good, it's just that no matter how hard they try it's impossible not to notice it clashing with the style of the character designs. At the end of it all I find myself saying that this could work and I hope it does, but I'm not going to assume it will until the show proves itself to me over the course of the next few episodes.
That said it's definitely the best first episode I've seen so far this winter season, but is that really saying a whole lot considering the competition? We'll find out in a month or so. |
