I'll be camping the skies with my camera for this. Last time I saw it, I didn't have my camera. Have no idea where and when I'll see it here in Ontario though. |

NuclearSecrecy.com: Nukemap
Using Google Maps as a base, the site shows you how extensive the devastation from any yield of nuclear weapon you desire. The fact that you can use it over familiar locations really allows you to nail down the magnitude of the damage caused. (The Little Boy bomb dropped in Hiroshima is actually smaller than I thought it is).

US gov boffins achieve speeds Faster Than Light
"'Loophole' found in Special Theory of Relativity"
"Scientists working in a US government laboratory say they have managed to transmit a signal from point to point faster than the speed of light in a vacuum - in a development apparently violating the laws of physics." See: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/05...light_quantum/ |

But would this help transmissions over greater distances? Less to no delays in transmission would be grand for interplanetary probes, manned missions to Mars and beyond, and certainly would make asteroid mining by remote more practical.

Secretive Blue Origin Reveals New Details of Spacecraft Plans
"The curtain of secrecy is being raised by Blue Origin, a private entrepreneurial
space group designing both suborbital and orbital vehicles. Backed by Amazon.com mogul Jeff Bezos, the Kent, Wash.-based Blue Origin group has completed wind tunnel testing of its next-generation craft, simply called the "Space Vehicle." It would transport up to seven astronauts to low-Earth orbit and the International Space Station. Though the company has been stingy on public information in the past, new details of the recent work have been released." See: http://news.yahoo.com/secretive-blue...GlvbnM-;_ylv=3 |

So....
Plantary Resources: Asteroid mining Virgin Galactic: Orbital Tourism Blue Origin: Manned flights to the ISS Space X: Dragon-Falcon combo for cargo runs and manned flights to the ISS and possibly beyond. Orbital Sciences Corperation: Cygnus Spacecraft for cargo runs to the ISS Bigelow_Aerospace: Space Hotels and the CST-100 spacecraft from Boeing. Sierra Nevada Corperation: Working on the Dream Chaser. A reusable spacecraft that is basically the small version of the Space Shuttle. Reation Engines Limited: Skylon Project...which looks remarkably like the Spaceplane from 2001: a Space Odyssey. and of course NASA: Space probes and Orion planned for extra-orbital missions and eventually Mars. I guess the thoughts that we were getting out of the space industry were a little premature. Just that everything happens to still be inthe testing stages at present.

They seem to be US companies......looks like while everyone else is looking to plunder what is left from the rest of Earth, you Yanks are fleeing to Mars/Moon without us.
Damn assholes over at the other side of the Atlantic, stay on Earth and join the resource wars!

Space...the ultimate "high ground".
Though someone asked me today if they were working on a planetary defense system, or a space fleet to defend against asteroids.... or Gamilons for that matter.

Boffins baking big-data single chip architecture
"Graphene, electrons and the end of 'conventional silicon electronics'" "A team led by scientists from the University of California have returned to electrical engineering fundamentals with work that will produce a chip combining memory and logic. Only this will overcome what they call the “ultimate limits” of conventional silicon electronics the others are trying to circumvent. Today, you have memory in RAM and logic in the CPU connected by a bus that causes a bottleneck as instructions are relayed. Their goal is to construct a functioning magnetologic gate that will be the building block of the new chip architecture and become the main element of a circuit. The idea is to emulate the transistor, which paved the way for the integrated circuit and microprocessor – foundation stones of today's computers. The magnetologic gate will be used on circuits in intensive applications like search, data compression and image recognition." See: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/05/08/big_data_chip/ ================================================= Boffins embiggen data storage space with 'phase-shifting' material "'Works 100 times faster' than current flash" "A team of researchers has found a way of manipulating Phase-Change Memory (PCM) – a material with special properties – so that it can transform into various states at once, allowing the boffins to create multi-level PCM cells. If all goes well, this should pave the way for development of the next generation of data storage media." See: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/05/08/mlc_pcm/ |

Remember when we thought we’d get all our nutrition from pills and bars?
Reading this kinda shatter our dreams of eating food pills in the future. Hopefully they invent this instead.

Send yer cars to driving school. Driver-less cars now legal in state of Nevada and can hold their own license:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...by-Nevada.html While it is pretty strange and boring to be sitting in a passenger seat with no driver, it probably cure road idiocy. There should be a requirement of over 60 IQ and being able to speak a minimum of 1 language for drivers. There was a local article i read last year where a driver was pulled over for driving like a drunk person on a highway because she was on her cellphone. When the police knocked on her side window signalling to her to lower the window, she lowered it and told the police officer: "hold on, I'm on the phone" I also know canadian-born drivers whose english skills are worse than an immigrant. I had to explain to a 22 year old friend that Yield means to watch out and stop for pedestrians and others. The world 'yield' simply did not exist in his diction... |
