Am I the only one who feel that this episode’s pacing is faster than usual? Hell, you can even say it’s rapid. It’s like the anime is trying to catch up to something.

Anyway, nice display of the “power of spices”. And nice to see Soma got knocked out once in a while

Episode 20:

Thrilling episode. First half was buildup and prep and second part was the candidates getting to work. I still find it amusing there's that one girl who is obsessed with Erina though.

Also, nice to see our judges speak their minds already like her:

Pretty excited to see how this arc will be adapted. Oh and Alice's assistant is a badass.

Episode 20
The first half was all about showing the kids busy with their preparations. It wasn't interesting overall compared to the second half (although it did serve the purpose of a build-up part well), except for that part about Miyako. She is the heir to her restaurant much like Soma is heir to the Yukihira Diner. But the second in command chef (who is now the chief) doesn't want a girl in the kitchen (even though females are generally the ones in the kitchen at homes). And Miyako wants to prove her worth so she wants to take the top spot at Totsuki.

Lol when Isami lost "a little weight". They was hilarious. Lol when Takumi was getting ignored by Soma.

Things got seriously intense here. Biggies of the food industry are here to serve as judges and they are admiring the kids at work. Lol Alice with all that equipment. It's like she's performing an experiment or something instead of cooking.

Eizan managed to bring in the Curry Queen since he most likely works as her advisor based on what he said to her while she was complaining.

Ryo turned into a monster after finishing the prep work. Megumi wasn't showing any flare like the others but Isshiki knows that she is capable enough. Hayama was dominating the place mainly because Soma was sleeping lol.

The ones going through from group A are obvious. Group B is more of a challenge though. We have Miyako, Megumi, Alice, Nao, Erina's assistant who's name I can't seem to remember, Takumi, all have chances to progress but only 4G will go ahead. (Nao because she gets an awful lot of focus in the ED so she can't be useless). Group A has Soma, Hayama, Ryo and Nikumi progressing. It's obvious. Nikumi's position isn't probably that guaranteed, but the rest have theirs guaranteed. (just guessing. Haven't read the manga). It is kinda brutal though, only 8 out of 60 progressing. They sure don't want to waste too much time.

The main badassery will commence in the next episode. That'll be super awesome.

Business as usual, Soma gets screwed around for 1/2 or 3/4 of the cooking time and in the last minutes pulls of a huge comeback, apparently.

I think it is pretty obvious who will move on from the preliminaries just by watching the intro, so I'm just enjoying the ride right now.

It was nice to see some background on some of the side characters. I'm trying to decide if I like Miyoko or not. They did show some background information on her, and I can sympathize, but her forceful attitude is quite a turn-off.

I just love how the 2 most unassuming contestants from each group are Souma and Megumi, who will most likely blow away the competition when it is their turn.

Of course Souma fell asleep, Isami loosing weight kill me, I knew there was something weird with him when they show that flashback when he was thin.

Overall this episode got a nice build up in the first part seeing how intense the second part was.

The way he gets constantly shunned, Isami might just scrape the win, but takumi is nowhere near the top.

EDIT: Although I just realized, the OP has, at the very end, 8 contestants which are in the elections, and 4 from each side... and Erina-sama. This could mean that Aldini, Tadokoro, albino-girl's aide, Hayama, Yukihira nikumi, albino girl and Erina's aide MAY pass.

A little bit, but just in order to reach the conclusion of this stage and maybe the little mini arc after it. It has been a rush of introductions so it can focus in the food in the last 4 chapters.
