I was just informed by Barnes&Noble that the shipment of the english version of Lucky*Star manga volume has been delayed to 14June09 (one month delay).
No notice on the official site of any problems (imagine that.... :P). Hopefully, its just a distribution burp from Bandai .... but the Tokyopop disarray has me a bit twitchy.

Was just notified by B&N that my copy of L*S vol 1 (english) has shipped. So I suppose that means we should all start seeing them in a week or less?
Bookstores usually get manga on the shelves about a week after my pre-orders arrive, just fyi.

GAH! So lucky . Did you get a chance to read it yet? I'm really hoping they did a good job with the translation.
Anyway my copy still hasn't shipped But hopefully it will by the end of the week. On a sidenote, how many light novels are there for Lucky Star? I know about the murder case one, but wiki lists two more. Are they for real and if so why are they so hard to find |

Got my copy, part way through it. The translation isn't terrible... just kind of odd (I have spotted one or two minor "wtf?" translations but the gist wasn't ruined).
I think the translator was trying to be as transparent as possible so some terms are left in Japanese, the sentence structure is sometimes awkward/formal, etc. There's also a large glossary at the end. Quality of the print is about as good as it gets in "R1-land". If you want to know what Lucky*Star is REALLY like, then you should buy the manga --- it is going to surprise the "product placement", "insider reference", "industry gags" fanatics.

The translation was decent. But they replaced 'sensei' with 'ma'am'. I always got the feel that, even though it was a title for her, sensei was used sort of as a name. So I think Kuroi being called ma'am threw it off.
There are a few little 'off' things, as vexx mentioned. Oh well, english releases are a good sign, hopefully. |

Hard to remember but at the time of airing for Lucky*Star's anime adaptation, it seems like there were 4 volumes released at that point. Quote:
